This campsite is a gem! My favourite! Stunning location! It's fairly basic but I don't like all the mod cons which are available nowadays.

I have been twice to this campsite with my children. The first time was just for one night but that was enough to make us come back for longer. Adults - £6, children £3 (per night)

There are two fields you can choose from. In one field you can park your car next to the tent, and in the second you leave it in a car park but you are closer to toilet block and washing up facility (cold water only). We stay in the first.

Showers are back at the farm and are always hot and powerful.

2 mins walk away is a lovely river which you can go into or take a boat/kayak. Bring some jelly shoes or similar as bottom is stony - beautiful location though.

0.5 miles away is the village of Grange where there are two places to eat. I only ate at one of them (nearest to campsite) and it was lovely. Keswick is about 4 miles away with plenty of shops and cafes etc. Also, the coop there has a launderette if you need it.

BBQ's are allowed if they are lifted off the ground but no campfires. Warden on site is very friendly and helpful. Location is absolutely stunning! Campers are respectful of each other.

Great for kids - lots of freedom without worrying.

This was my most enjoyable camping experience to date!

The site is the most scenic and so relaxing. We were very lucky with the weather. We stayed in the top field and during the week and it was very quiet. There was a school group in the bottom field but they were no bother and we could not hear them at either day or night.

Yes, the showers are basic and a little walk away from the camping fields but they both hot and powerful and do the job. The toilet block was kept very clean and there are a couple of sinks for washing up.

Nothing beats waking up to the beautiful landscape. I can't wait to go again!

Been 4/5 times just beautiful fantastic views. There are two Fields . Big field you have to walk to the toilets and do the washing up or do what I do [ wash up next to the tent ], its about 2/3 min walk but in all honesty not that bad, take torch for the night time, little rocky to the toilets. You can park your car at side of your tent.

The other field cannot have the car at side of tent. Small stream in your way, with little bridge, but a lot go on this with children, kids love it. Its next to the toilets and washing up area. There are 4 big sinks to wash pots in but no hot water.

The showers are at the farm house, that's a beautiful 5 min's walk. The showers were hot and free, go in the end one it has bench in and lots of room if you have children with you [oh free showers ].

There is a lovely river lots on it with the kids and dogs. Water is so clear and not that deep kids love it. Lots of walking from camp site.

Cafes in grange very good food, so no need to use the car all the time and if the night sky is clear it lights up with hundreds of stars. But the thing about this place is the views and the beauty of it.

There is only one down on this site, is no hot water for washing pots but who cares with views like that.

It is a wonderful place. Camping at its best. At least if you look for nature and easygoing vacation and not for luxury. We stayed here for two weeks, one of them with lots of rain. The lower field was mostly flooded. We were on the upper field. To find a spot that is somehow levelled and at the same time does not expose your tent to the winds is a bit of a challenge. The ground is rocky, normal pegs only go in 5 centimetres or so. Sheep are used as natural lawn mowers; so beware of their droppings. The caretakers are very friendly. For a day or two the garbage container was overflowing.

The toilets were kept clean, even when the site became busy on week-ends. They have nice toilet-paper holders: a big role of paper inside a opaque plastic container with a small opening in the middle of the side where you can pull out the paper. So whatever people do there, the papers stays dry and clean - simple but effective. The sinks are ok, but you wished for some hooks or shelf's. The light there is powered by solar panels. The first days there was not much sun, and always someone had forgotten to turn out the light, which meant that it was pretty dark inside the toilet block and outside at the sinks for washing the dishes. There are 4 of these sinks outside, just bring your torch at nights.

Walking to the showers at the farm house is no problem, but only one of the 4 showers has a bench and a little space for your clothes, etc. In the other showers there are only hooks, where I guess all your clothes get rather wet. (we didn't try, but rather waited for the other one to be free).

Unfortunately you can't buy anything nearby. The owner was so nice to help out with a few eggs for the first breakfast. But although being a farm, they do not sell any farm products. You have to buy things in Keswick or in a tiny shop in Rosthwaite, which was usually closed when we came there.

All in all, a lovely camp site and a great start for your hiking tours.

There are two fields - the first has no facilities and the second has a small toilet block and wash up area. The showers were located at the farm house (at least a 300m walk). There was no hot water in the sinks and the shower temperature was only warm when we were there). The site is located beside a small river and is in the middle of woods - so bring fly repellent.

Have just returned from a week's stay at Hollows Farm which can be summed up in three words: location, location, location! What a glorious site this is. On National Trust land and nestling in the wondeful Borrowdale Valley this campsite is to be found off a track in the village of Grange. The track to the campsite is indeed rough and there could be some pothole filling-in which could help but nothing that a normal good car can't cope with. The facilities are basic; the toilet block having no hot water and just four loos for the ladies and two for the men. There was some queueing going on while we were their but it was at the height of the season and could only be expected. The walk to the showers at the farmhouse has got to be the most scenic I have ever encountered and worth showering just for the views! The showers themselves are basic but hot and powerful.

There are two fields available for camping. The first allows you to have your car alongside but does get busy and attracts groups and families so be prepared for noise at peak times. It is however a child's paradise with dens to be made and rivers to be explored. The other field is for tents only and you leave your car in the car park and carry all your gear over via a series of bridges. Both fields have their merits but it doesn't seem to matter as the scenery compensates for whatever problems you may encounter.

The Site Manager, Richrd, was very helpful and keeps an eye on the goings on so rowdy groups shouldn't be a problem. We were a little surprised that there wasn't more re-cycling going on although there was a can crusher at the toilet block. The water is perfectly safe for drinking and taps are plentiful.

The village of Grange is just a short walk away and there are two tea shops to choose from. The bus from Keswich stops at the end of the bridge and you can go up or down the valley as you like in a wonderful open top bus. The whole of Borrowdale is accessible from here and the walk along the river to Rosthwaite is one of the finest in England.

You can't book to come here so you take pot luck but don't let this put you off. This is a wonderful location for a camp site and I can imagine out of season is just stunning. We will return.

This site was to my mind, a little piece of heaven - that is if you like 'camping' and are not looking for a holiday park with plugs for your straighteners (as my daughter was.) Having begun my camping career a long time ago in a field with just a tap and and earth closet - I can cope with anything and this had much better than that.

Location, location - just fabulous: wooded river valley surrounded by spectacular peaks. Lots of choice of where to pitch - flat field with lots of room for all for camping and playing games - (but no facilities nearby except tap and bin), or wooded glade near the toilets and 'cold only' washing up sinks, but with no parking by the tent for cars, requiring a shortish carry from the car parking areas.

Showers were at the farm - a half mile? walk away. Concrete cubicles, but free hot water and coming down at you like a rainstorm. The walk up the track to the farm is pleasant enough, but not when you are not on your last legs, having been up on the fells all day.Ow, ow.

Walking to the toilets/washing up block from the flat field was also challenging - requiring you to negotiate a steepish path, stepping over rocks and tree roots, carrying your washing up bowl. But that's part of the fun of camping isn't it? That's why we don't stay at home. It's a bit of a way in the rain if you're 'busting' too. Take a torch to navigate this in the dark. The toilets were clean and wholesome enough (not exactly luxurious), but the basins were really only for handwashing.

We had no children with us - but with the rocks, the trees and the shallow pebbly river pool - many would find it wonderful.(not the kind of children who look for the games room as soon as they arrive perhaps).

The site was a great starting place for picturesque walks (the famous Castle Crag is nearby) but also quite near Keswick with its great supermarket and outdoor shops etc. There were a couple of very enticing looking cafes in the local hamlet too, (Grange) and I would go back again very willingly - not sure my daughter would though.

Lovely campsite for families - our 4 and 6 year olds loved it. Beautiful location - wide river, perfect depth for safe paddling and swimming - lovely walks alongside river and Castle Crag was a manageable adventure for the children.

Was busy when we visited but didn't feel crowded. Choice of 2 fields. In the first you can park alongside your tent. The second is more in the wooded area, across a small stream (no car access), with small hills for playing on. Toilet block was basic but clean. Showers at farmhouse. Owners not around camping fields much and therefore noise and fire rules not always observed (just depends on who your fellow campers are - the rowdy group were removed after our first nights stay and the second night was perfect).

We only have one problem with this campsite - its so perfect that we can't find a better one and just can't stop coming back! We've been staying in Hollow's Farm since we started camping when our son was a a baby. Not only is the site simply stunning, but it is a child's dream. The rocky 'mountain' for climbing and making dens, the slow, shallow river a mere stone's throw away and the wonderful walks are just perfect.

One of the draws to us is that this site is not a big, commercial site with home from home facilities. It has everything that you need!

The shower block is basic and 5 minutes away - but that's just an adventure for a 5 year-old!

The toilet block is a 1 minute walk through the woods - HOW EXCITING!

There are two tea rooms serving wonderful food in nearby Grange - a short walk away and another a little further away.

Catbells and Derwentwater are a short bike ride away and Keswick a 10 minute drive or bus trip away.

The access road in is bumpy - but this is a farm!

We've never had a problem with noise and you really can hear the cuckoos and owls.

I think that we'll be visiting here for many years to come.

Dont understand comments about access road to second field, bumpy yes, but nothing an ordinary car cant handle.

Excellent location for doing Cat bells, castle crag etc. 10 minutes from grange 15 from Rosthwaite. 100 yards from river Derwent!

Will definitely use again
