We have just had a weekend on the Kirkstead site. We had flat site, on Grass which was ok. Plenty room between units. Toilet was cleanish. Wash facilities were dated,
We didn't use showers as at £1 per go, Thought it was rather steep. Luckily, we have our own shower in our unit, although small.
We took the footpath through the cemetery to go to Mablethorpe, it cut out a lot.
The beach was lovely, although the brilliant weather was the reason for that. Mablethorpe is rather run-down. We took a taxi back, as being elderly, it was quite a hike back.
We got a local taxi from a side street office. He was so cheap, I couldn't believe it. £3. 50 back to the site
!We didn't use the club, or the shop/cafe. So cant pass judgement on those. We shall be going again.

Check in was quick and easy. You have to go in the bar to check in. The site is a mixture of statics, tourers and tents. The touring/tent part is flat and grassy the pitches are well spacious with good TV reception.
The toilets are clean but I don't think there's enough of them for the size of the site. There are two blocks, one a brick built one and the other is a portaloo type but there are only two toilets in each.
There is a pub on site which is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, and never had any trouble getting served.
There is also a small shop and cafe. Outside the pub there is a good play area for the kids, so they can play while you have a drink and your just yards away.
Its nearer to Sutton than it is to Mapplethorpe, which has all the amenities but is less crowded.
All in all a good enjoyable stay and would definitely return.

We have just returned from Kirkstead Holiday park and what a nice friendly place it is. After checking in, which was very quick, we were taken to our pitch by a groundsman, which was something we have not experienced before.
There is entertainment on every night, good food too and you get plenty of it, there is a playground for the kids and a shop / cafe which is open daily until 12. 30pm.
Toilets are ok, but would imagine if the park was full there could be a long wait for the showers as only 2 of them on site.
Tent field is immaculate, well kept ground which is grass and well looked after, electric pitches with water tap close too and plenty of bins. Very roomy pitches.
Mablethorpe and sutton on sea is only a stones throw away and about ten min walk to the beach.
Would definitely recommend and will return again.

Having read the other reviews on this site about this site, we booked for a weekend stay on this site.
The kirkstead is a Family run site and in one word honest springs to mind.
The pitches are very flat with their own water and electric points and very roomy ( you are not crammed in), Toilets portable cabin are ok, but to be honest the main toilet block 30sec walk are great, one of the best showers we have had on a site ( in a couple of years a revamp mite be a good idea) but these are clean tidy warm.
The bar is largest enough to cope if the site was full, and we had chance to play cash bingo! its also got 2 pool tables a full size snooker table and a small arcade room.
There is a great menu as well.
£1 mite seem a bit steep for a shower, but when you consider £21 per night I think it works out vary reasonable, I might have a different option if we had stayed for a week ( four adults and one child). There's a play area for the kids and very soon there will be a shop.
We found this site to be very near to perfection for us, yes there will be a couple of niggles, but
We found this site to be a fantastic find ! we will certainly be back.

We booked Kirkstead for the end of May bank holiday. 2 adults 2 kids 1 tent.
BOOKING IN
Booked in at reception which was situated in the bar area. Check in was quick and staff were friendly. Also there was a real log fire which provided a bit of warmth in the damp windy weather which we were met with. We got our toilet key (1 per unit) and barrier card and were shown to the camping field.
SITE
The site is not too big and consists of statics, touring caravans and tents. The camping field is flat, part with electric the other without. It can get very windy though so make sure ropes are all pegged in. Plenty of bins around the camping field so very tidy.
TOILETS/SHOWERS
There are 2 toilet blocks. The portable cabin on the camping field can get dirty by morning but the main block is only about 30 seconds walk away from the field gate so we always used these. There are 3 toilets in the portable cabin and 2 in the main block. Also 2 showers in the main block which cost £1 per shower. We were only there for the weekend so did not use the showers. £1 for 5 minutes is a bit steep, especially seeing as we had 2 females who like long showers. There were never queues for the toilets or showers while we were there.
PLAY AREA
The site has a small play area near the reception. Due to the weather our kids did not use this as much as they could but when they did they enjoyed it.
SHOPS
There is no a shop on this site but they did look like they were doing work to it so maybe in the future there will be one. There is a co-op and aldi in town along with arcades, souvenir shops cafes/take aways and a couple of banks.
LOCATION
The beach is a 1 mile walk from the campsite via a public footpath slightly longer if you stick to the roads but not much) and Mablethorpe centre about 2 miles. It is easily walkable along the promenade even with kids. We have a 9 and 10 year old and they managed fine.
Queens Park has a nice boating lake with pedalos and a play park. Also if the day is warm there is a paddling pool area. Cleethorpes 1 hour drive away.
ENTERTAINMENT
We did not use the site bar/restaurant but prices looked good and there was entertainment on in the evenings. Evening entertainment in Mablethorpe is mainly arcades and family pubs. We did venture into the arcades and thoroughly enjoyed playing on the 2p machines. Also at the other end of Mablethorpe (£5 by taxi) is the Ferryboat pub. This is child and dog friendly with a main bar, kids bar, arcade and entertainment.
WEATHER
The only downside to the holiday was that the weather was very unpredictable. We covered sun, high winds and rain which cleared in time for our tent to dry out before packing up. The site can get quite windy but there have been some effort to plant hedges to help with this once grown fully.
OVERALL
Overall nice friendly quiet site in a good location just outside of the main town. Would come again.

This is a very nice site. The tent pitches are flat which makes camping a lot better than being on a slope. It takes 25 minutes to walk into Mablethorpe. The shower block is kept clean and tidy, but there are only 2 showers and at a pound for 8 minutes could seem a bit expensive. The club on site is really nice with pool, snooker tables and entertainment. All in all a well good place to visit. We will return again. Food is also available. The toilets on the camping field could be cleaned a bit more, but they are still usable. Only one thing missing is a shop so take your own food before you arrive.

Excellent value using the sun camping offer £1 a night. Toilets now in the camping field so less of a hike for a wee. Again a good all round stay with some nice entertainment in the club.
Was a little spoilt by noisy neighbours being excessively noisy in the small hours and almost pitching the tent on top of ours didn't help.
This site I'm sure will benefit when the surrounding bushes grow as it is exposed to the wind.
Have been here twice now and sure we'll be back.
Pleasant staff, a nice stay.

We have just come back from Kirkstead after staying for the bank holiday weekend. This is a lovely campsite and I would certainly go back again. The toilets and showers were clean, although I did think the £1 charge for the showers was too much. It is only a 10 minute walk at the most to the beech and a 20 minute walk, 5 minutes by car to Mablethorpe. We didn't use the club house so I can't comment on this. A friendly site right from the 1st phone call and would recommend it. The pitch size's were good and they accommodated us and 2 other tents making sure we were pitched together. The only down side was that when the weather is bad like we had there is not much to do. The site is very open and quite a few tents didn't stand up to the weather conditions. This is not the sites fault though, it is just one of the hazards of camping I suppose!

We stayed on the newer bit of the site right at the back. They have recently planted some hedging which separates pitches. You get lots of room for your caravan and awning, with mains electric and water. Prices are very reasonable (£21 per night which includes awning and mains electric and water).
Only let down was that you have to buy shower cards (£1 per time). Most sites showers are included. Toilet / shower block is clean and had plenty of toilet roll. The temp toilet block for the tents not as nice but still ok.
The pub/clubroom is big, clean and spacious with a nice friendly atmosphere. Childrens playgound etc. Bus stops just outside for Mablethorpe etc. so no need to drive.
Would def recommend and we have booked again for later in the year!

Just returned from our second visit to Kirkstead and have to say that it let itself down the second time round. The extra portable cabin toilets in the big field are a really good idea in principle but unfortunately they were not cleaned nearly regularly enough and were always swimming in water and dirty.
The shower block was also dirty and as there are only 2 shower cubicles I waited 30 mins for a shower. The shower cards were also extremely temperamental and only worked now and then.
Admittedly it was the bank holiday weekend and both camping fields were quite full but really the facilities need updating and cleaning more regularly as they were always out of toilet paper and soap.
On the plus side the grounds themselves are well kept and the large field provides ample space to play for the kids.
We also had a couple of really good nights out in the clubhouse too with entertainment such as vocalists and race nights.
Overall a bit disappointed this time but we would probably still return as we have seen the site managed better in the quieter periods the year before.
