We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Kirkstead, the weather was nice which obviously made it far better but to say the tent area is very open and next to a windfarm it wasn't windy at all.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, however we did have some problems with the showers, they are a bit dated and are £1 for 5 mins which is a bit steep if you need a long shower and if there are a few of you in your party, you have to purchase a card for but you have to get unchanged first and then come back out to insert the card otherwise your shower starts running without you.

The children had lots of fun but the play area was very near the entrance to the park and was only small but when its quiet the tent field is massive and plenty of room for football, flying kites etc.

Just had a weekend at kirkstead with our 3 kids, its a lovely site and we will be going again.

We were welcomed and took to our pitch, the touring field was nice, flat and clean, plenty of room between tents and to play games etc.

Toilet block fine, clean plenty of toilet roll, showers ok £1 card for 5 mins, there is also a toilet key £2.50 refundable, and £10.00 for the gate card, also refundable.

Good facilities, nice staff, park for kids, club house good, cheap drinks!,great location, right near beach and mablethorpe not far to drive

Well worth a visit

This was our first time camping on this site & it was difficult to find with no signposts off the main A52 road. The reception area is at the end of the bar in the club-house which was strange, but the owner was there to greet us, although not the most friendly of people & hard to approach at times. The groundsman showed us to our hook-up pitch & was full of information if we so needed it.

The site is rather large & flat which is a plus point. There is no tarmac or gravelled area for the cars / caravans / motorhomes / trailers to drive on only at the entrance, so after a little rain the site soon became a muddy bog.

The Club house was a good size with a large conservatory but at almost £3. 00 a pint, made it a very expensive night & we did also try the food on offer. The opening times where also very limited.

There is a large children's play area in front of the club house but they had to be supervised so there was very few using it in the day. Would have been much better located in the camping field, away from the main gate.

The only toilet block is much to small for the size of the site. 2 toilets, 2 showers, 4 sinks! The toilet key system was a pain especially with children & £1 for the 5 mins shower was expensive too. The pot wash area was again 2 sinks, all part of the same building which was no where near adequate for the amount of people on the site.
There was no shop on the site for milk / bread / newspapers etc which was a real shame, the nearest was 5 mins car ride away.
The Laundrette was very good with 2 large machines & just the 1 dryer. But it was expensive to use regularly.
The security on the site was very good & we did feel safe at all times. Of an evening the site was generally quiet to considering the amount of campers on site.

All attractions where a car ride away including shops, beach, bars & restaurants, but there is a good selection at nearby Mablethorpe & Sutton-on-sea. Inglemells & Skegness are 3/4 hour car ride away but well worth a visit!

The main plus point for us about this campsite was the peaceful evenings (no blaring music like at some campsites). The only problem we had was with the amount of flies and wasps! It made it very difficult to eat food outdoors.

The campsite is well located for the beach. Sutton on sea is only 5 minutes drive away with a few shops, cafes, pubs and take aways.

There is a club at the campsite which serves food but unfortunately this closes between 5pm -7pm and our kids could not wait until after 7pm to eat, so we did not spend any time in the club.

The toilets are basic and some soap would have been appreciated! The shower cost £1 for 5 mins which we thought was a bit steep. The washing up area could do with a non-slip matt as it got very slippery with all the soapy water splashed everywhere

Good points: 10 minute walk from beach following the public footpath which is found turning left out of campsite, cross over main road and go right a sign can be seen saying footpath to sea, once on the promenade to the left is mablethorpe and to the right is sutton on sea, both about a mile to walk. And excellent for cycling.

There is a nice childrens park.

Bad points: the touring field is wide open to the elements, there is no protection from the elements.

The tent field is next to a field that has wind turbines (gives you an idea that its a windy area).

Lots of tents were damaged the week before we arrived, the tent next to us had its porch ripped off by high winds, two tents (one of which was ours) and a gazebo were damaged by high winds.

The statics which have their own facilities are right next to the camp facilities, whilst tents are furthest from the facilities

So hold off that extra glass of wine unless you want a good walk to the loos in the middle of the night.

There is a key system to the loos/showers, so if my hubby went to the loo with the key you could guarantee either my 8 yr old daughters or myself needed the loo! Which resulted in us standing outside the mens loos shouting for the key (there is a deposit of 2.50 to be paid for the key)

Showers (when they worked as myself and many other ladies on the site had problems with the shower cards) are £1 per card and you get around 5 mins per card.

There is no fishing on site.

There is no shop on site.

The restaurant / bar opens at 7pm on weekdays, this is madness, especially in the 6 wks holidays, because if you get a bad day it would be nice to have access to the bar for a lunch meal, a game of cards / dominoes, to watch the tv and to have a pint whilst watching your tent blow away!

Wear your wellies whilst washing the pots as your feet may get wet from the leaking sink.

My husband said mens toilets were clean, however I found the ladies were dirty.

As our tent broke we asked if they had a caravan spare for the rest of our stay (as our tent broke halfway through our stay), they had a static for which they wanted £165, for 3 nights we got them down to £150, but we only wanted to stay for 2 nights, they wouldn't budge on the price and £150 for 2 nights is a lot

Nice site, the staff were very helpful and escorted us to our pitch. The site was was reasonably clean and well laid out. The club house was very nice and reasonably priced, kids enjoyed playing pool and it was 50p per table so ok.

However the big draw back is trying to keep clean! £1 each for a shower and we found that the card system didn't work properly. People were getting undressed ready for their shower only to find they had to get dressed again and go back to the club house for another card. Not easy with 5 children! There were 8 of us, so we ended up paying and extra £8 a night.

We liked it there, but wouldn't visit again because of this. Worked out expensive for what it was.

This was a very clean and tidy site with very friendly and helpful staff. On arrival we were taking to our pitch by the grounds keeper and given any information we needed. It wasn't within walking distance of anything but the beach and mablethorpe where within a few minutes drive.
It had no shop but did have a club serving food and drink. We didn't eat there but we did go for a night out and played bingo! The drink was club priced not pub priced the food seemed reasonably priced. However the entertainment was limited.
There was a fully kitted out kids area but no-one was using it because the kids had to be supervised.
Back to the prices the site seemed very reasonable at first when the told us the pitch price £14 but then things just kept getting added on £10 for gate (returnable) £2.50 for the key for toilet and shower block (returnable) £1 per shower not returnable and worst of all £3 per dog! Since we had 2 this made it very expensive for us.

Visited this site to accompany my son and his family who were using a caravan for the first time. He was told off for using two sockets (he's not thick but just didn't know to use one)

At £21 per night plus £1 for a shower (even though the sign in showers said 50p) it was rather an expensive weekend. With just 2 toilets and 2 showers we found a queue on both days. I wouldn't say the toilets were clean. My daughter in law was embarrassed when a male cleaner walked in to do his job. Maybe a notice that a male would be in at a certain time would overcome that.

The field we were on was mainly in use by seasonal caravanners. Late Friday evening my two young grandkids were woken by kids running about making an awful noise. Dogs were allowed to foul the field (However the pooh was scooped) rather than taken to the dogwalk.

We have been to Kirkstead 3 times now and have enjoyed it each time. The weather has been OK, which helps. On the plus side, the owners are very friendly and so to are the staff, who are happy to help. The ground is good and well maintained. The club house is clean and food prices are reasonable. We have not eaten there yet as they don't open til 7pm which is abit too late for our youngest to be eating but have been told by other campers that the food is good. The toilets are kept clean. The only things I would say in a negative way is that there is no shop anymore, so you have to go into Mablethorpe which is a pain if you only need some milk or the like. The park is OK but more for the older kids, not really suitable for little ones. On the whole it is somewhere we would definitely go again and the kids loved it too.

We visited this site on what was called the worst Easter weekend for 30 years. After checking in, the grounds man walked with us to the pitches and showed us where he wanted us. There is only a tarmac road to the entrance of the touring field and after this it is just grass. The field was already wet and boggy and we got stuck half way to the pitch. The grounds man, at his suggestion, fetched the tractor and pitched us, something that he seemed to be used to doing. Luckily we got the car off the field and from then on parked on the tarmac roads, however this was a bit of a squash as most were doing the same.

After 7 inches of snow on the Sunday it was no wonder that by Tuesday we asked for the tractor to get us off. The field and especially the entrance was very churned up and muddy.

The staff were helpful and security is good as there is a barrier and card system. We were sent a lovely menu for the on site pub / club however, as the first night we tried to eat there the kitchen wasn’t ready we never got round to trying again. The showers / toilets seemed very clean and the kids play area was in clear view from the club.

The site is a little hard to find as every other one seems to have sign posts but not this one, and if you approach from the wrong side there is a hump back bridge that appears to have seen many groundings. We would return but only if we had been having good weather for a while due to the lack of tarmac / stone road in the field.
