Before reviewing the site, I would like to mention the area. St Jean de Monts is a jewel of a town. It is like having a Mediterranean resort within easy striking distance of a channel port, and the weather always seems to be hot (every time that we have been there!)
Now about the site:
All of the sites in the area tend to be huge and full of kids! This one was no exception. Now if you have young children who love to play in the pool, or play football or table tennis or virtually anything which makes a noise, then you can't go wrong with this site. It offers a massive range of activities for the kids. If however you are of a more gentler persuasion and want a quiet relaxed site then please stay away, this is not a quiet site by any stretch of the imagination. This is not a criticism of the site - what this site offers is just what the customers want - and that seems to be noisy!
We use these reviews as a guide and I feel that to a large extent, the cleanliness of the sanitation is largely down to the last person who used them, We found that the toilet blocks were regularly cleaned and the site was doing everything in their powers to maintain these standards, it was the grotty people using the facilities who let the site down!
Where we were pitched was mostly dirt/dust, which was about 2 inches deep, under that was granite, so remember to take a healthy supply of rock pegs and a club hammer, plastic pegs don't stand a chance.
One thing about the showers. They are not built for 17 stone hulks like me, they are quite small and the doors on the cubicles make things worse, it is like Takeshi's Castle. It take a lot of manoeuvring and sucking in of breath and body parts to get in and out, but they are clean and there is plenty of hot water.
One thing which is disconcerting for us coy Brits is the French habit of having communal toilets with the urinals out in the open. I couldn't wee with two young French girls standing alongside of me having a wash!
In brief: this site is a very good site for families with young children. It offers the socialites a site which is very lively. The facilities are very good and the pitches are a good size and well sheltered. We had a good week there, but it was exhausting, and if we were 'old fogeys' we would have hated it. But we aren't and we didn't!

Visited this site as we love the climate in the Vendee region. Site was very pretty and we enjoyed a large pitch near the playpark. Toilets are immaculate. My husband saw them being cleaned before six one morning! Only fault was that hand washing facilities were shared with dish washing facilities which I don't like.
Area around is just delightful, beaches large and very quiet in July! We enjoyed bike rides and picnics. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed campsite this is ideal. Finish your trip with a visit to the fabulous Puy De Fou theme Park. Been to Florida twice and this park is outstanding - Disney with no rides and no 'shop til you drop' mentality - a must if you are any where in this region!

This is a good site, the pitches are a good size and nice and flat. We got to choose our pitch ourselves by walking around on foot so we got something that suited us in terms of sun/shade - not sure they would offer that during peak season though. The facilities were good, one block near us was a bit dated but it was absolutely spotless the whole time so you really can't ask for more than that. The other block nearby was clearly quite new and had much larger shower cubicles but of course these ones were more popular so not always available. The shop has a fairly good range; we didn't use the restaurant or takeaway.

We had ten days at this site and loved it. I'd echo many of the comments made in the above review. We had a very large pitch which was very near to the children's play area. This for us, was ideal. The only draw back that I'd mention is that the road surface was consisting of stones which were often very sharp. Our son fell over and lost half his elbow on them!.
The swimming pool was lovely and refreshing, albeit cold when you initially jumped in. The indoor pool seemed a little chaotic at times for my liking.
The overall area is fantastic. Each day we found another section of beach which was lovely. The children were able to go into the sea, and it was warm enough to swim in. If you want to hire bikes from the site, get there early, as they are very popular. We had four bikes for one day, and had a lovely time going through the forest nearby.
St Jean de Monts really comes alive in the evening, it has a great feel about it.
For those with children, each bloke of showers has little baths that you can use for children. These were ideal, nice size and you can get a lot of water in them, which the kids loved. We were all very impressed with the site and the area and would consider returning.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at La Yole, during mid-August. The campsite was a highlight of our stay, with excellent facilities and comfortable sized pitches.
On arrival, the campsite immediately seemed very secure with entry only via a security coded barrier. The manager in reception, depsite being very busy, made us welcome and gave us a cold drink as we checked in. We had booked two pitches next to each other as we were being joined by a friend and both turned out to be equal in size, hedged and with water and electricity. We were located in what seemed to be the main part of the site, near to the pool, bar and main wash block. Having had a cycle around the site, it was apparent that there is another large section located further back near to the children's play area which was less shaded and with less privacy between pitches. We much prefered the main section that we were given (mainly statics, caravans but some tents) so would request this area if we stayed in the future.
The facilities were excellent. In our area there were two large washblocks, one slightly smaller but newer with better showers (larger cubicles with a sink and control of water temp in shower) but less of them. Only one slight downside was having to occasionally queue for a shower; however, this was generally at peak times in the day. The facilities were generally very clean.
Depsite the proximity to some wonderful beaches, we did use the pool quite often. It was a very good size although constantly packed and included an indoor pool and a water slide. Strictly speedos only - we saw quite a few men and boys being told that their swimwear was not allowed by the lifeguard.
There is a bar and restaurant that we used a couple of times. Food was good, although we all felt that the drinks were massively over-priced but this seemed commonplace when eating/drinking out in France. Wireless broadband in the bar costed 3 euros per hour. The connection seemed a little unpredictable but usable for basic browsing.
I cannot talk highly enough of the general area. Ok, it's a bit 'seaside resort' in places but we loved the proximity to wonderful beaches, the great pine forests for cycling, the cooling sea breeze and, as others have said, the campsite is just slightly out of the hustle of St Jean de Monts but also very accessible. Plenty of supermarkets to choose from within 5-10 mins drive away. Some lovely villages also - make sure you visit 'Sallertaine' just 1/2 drive inland: lots of lovely craft type shops and the village just has a great feel.
Overall, La Yole campsite exceeded our expectations and we shall certainly book again when visiting the Vendee region in the future.

This site is excellent if you have a young family.
We went and stayed in a Eurocamp static, but was so impressed with the site that we have now bought a tent and intend to return this summer for a fortnight.
Medium sized, with medium sized and large pitches. Very clean shower blocks, and I have exacting standards ! Very clean amenity areas. Playground for children nice and large.
We were there the end of August so cannot comment about what it might be like full to capacity, but to be honest , if you have to queue , its a small price to pay.
Although it is close to the seaside resort, this site has a nice country feel to it.
The pool is fantastic, and also has a small heated pool if the weather if inclement.
We did visit some of the other local campsites and felt this outstripped them by far.

Pitch was well located for on-site amenities, coming complete with own tap, but a little claustrophobic compared to other sites. Very clean toilet / shower blocks which is a big plus point for us.
Local resort of Orouet too commercial for our liking, but we did have some lovely days out. Drove up to St. Nazaire one day and St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie another.

This is a great site for people with young familys The management go out of there way to help you with the local area and things to do.
The problem we have when visiting the Vendee region is the weather, It can be very changeable and when its wet the world wants to go shopping to the local Leclerc supermarket, Then the traffic in the area can be horrendous.
The site has a nice swimming pool area and also a big play area for the kids to run around on.
It was a few years since I visited this site but I still read good reviews on it and would visit again, Weather permitting of course.

Fantastic site. Good location and great for small children. Best pitches around the children's playground.
We visited this site 3 years in a row and 5 years in total.
Good toilet facilities, always clean, new. Pool area and bar very good.
The area is also very good, walking distance to the sea. Beach fantastic but not so good for surfing in the summer.
St Jean de Monts is buzzing in the evening and well worth a visit, day and night. Good cycle links from the site to the town.
If you like waterparks, visit Oceanile for more variety of slides.

La Yole is a super site in a lovely location not far from any choice of about 30+ beaches. Beautiful area, quite cosmo, St Jean de Monts having a real riviera feel about it. The site itself is immaculate, lovely bar (drinks a bit pricey), pool etc and friendly helpful owners and staff. We went with Canvas and had a pre pitched huge tent waiting for us - excellent value at just under £300 for 8 nights including ferry crossing for a family of 4. We have just purchased a motorhome and intend to return to La Yole in 2008 as owners as the pitches that we saw for tourers were huge, level, clean and very reasonably priced. Great campsite to base yourself for the Vendee region - oh yes make sure to visit The Puy Du Fou - Full size Roman Ampitheatre where you can watch real live gladiator shows with chariot racing - amazing!
