Cefn Maelan site is a gem and is run by the very “customer focused” Archie Jones, who likes things ship-shape. There is not a trace of litter anywhere and even his sheep seem to clean up after themselves. The toilet block has just had a total refurb and is a credit to his thoroughness.
There is an excellent Spar shop ¾ of a mile away on the road into town, selling local produce, some with only 14 road miles on the label!
Dolgellau is a small town with a lot of Victorian charm. It has a few bakeries, an excellent climbing shop, cycle hire and “proper” hardware shop
It is a good base to do the Mawddach Trail. This is a splendid 10 mile level trail which runs between Dolgellau and Barmouth. The surface is very good compacted fine hardcore that has been laid over the original rail line and can be walked, ridden on horseback (on some sections only) but best cycled, even on an ordinary bike.
It starts at the main car park in Dolgellau but if you want to save £3.50 pay and display fee then use the free car park just west of the town where the A493 meets the A494.
You can then invest this saving at the George III pub which lies at Penmaen Pool, a few miles into the trail. There is a toll booth at the Barmouth end of the rail / foot bridge that spans the estuary. Barmouth is a jolly “Kiss me quick” sort of a place but has a nice beach and plenty of eateries.

We visited this site with a tent last year and where so impressed with it that we have now bought a caravan to keep on the site for the Summer. The site is very tidy and well kept. Archie is very friendly and always willing to help.
The views are absolutely stunning with some lovely walks locally. Dolgellau is a lovely little town and only 15 minutes walk away (although it is uphill all the way back). We will be spending as many weekends as possible there this year.

Easily accessible site seemingly comprising 3 areas: a flattish field for caravans, a tent field which is more on a slope as you come in and a separate area for statics.
Toilet block relatively simple at bottom of caravan field, with a shower inside gents and ladies plus two in little huts next to the toilets. Facilities really quite basic (although we generally camp on bigger sites so perhaps a bit unfair) eg chemical toilet disposal is an open air hole with hose pipe, and washing up is at a sink also at bottom of field in open air and no hot water - but all clean. Wife had a problem with her shower but mine fine but does require 50p. No soap in toilets as somebody else mentioned.
Best bit are the owners who are very helpful and friendly - Archie mentioned a few times in these reviews lived up to the description. Very helpful when arriving. Views are great and drainage good considering the deluge we suffered! Price also good - basically £15 per night for caravan, awning, electricity and 2 adults and 2 little ones.
Would recommend as a base for caravans. Not sure about tents given lack of washing up etc.

Found this campsite after reading the reviews on this website. The site was great, clean, no litter anywhere. The toilets and shower blocks were spotless, and the owner was great, very friendly and always willing to lend a hand
Its approx a 15 min walk into the town, and there's a Somerfield in easy walk from the site
The best thing of all are the sights, one word - stunning
Will be going back again and soon!

First time to visit here and we will be back!
Site though a little small, is in the most stunning location with the most spectacular views across to the mountains.
Toilets and shower are spotless though could have done with a little longer in the shower as forgot that the welsh water was so soft and shampoo takes a little longer to rinse off! Vans were quite close, though there is a large expanse of grass in the middle, so there is still plenty of space for children to play, but at night the site was very quiet. Electric hook up worked well, unlike some sites where it trips as soon as you put the kettle on.
Welcome from Archie was so genuine and warm, helped us get level and set up and the lads working on the lambing were so helpful and let my two children look at some very tiny new borns.
Beautiful site, quite busy but the Easter weather was glorious and the whole area was packed. The site is not expensive at all and with the stunning views and peaceful setting we didn't want anything else
Couldn't recommend anywhere higher!

Glanllyn is situated on the shore of Lake Bala in Wales. 16 acres of natural parkland and spectacular views of nearby hills and mountains make it an idyllic spot to pitch a caravan, motorhome, tent or campervan with level grass or hardstanding pitches. For water sports enthusiasts there is a private shingle beach with easy launching area for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, fishing and paddle boarding. Just got back from our 1st break in our new tourer. Pros and cons of this site:
Pros:
Views are fantastic
Owner - Archie - is very friendly and helpful - he reversed our van into it's space as it was our 1st time
Lovely quiet location
Cons:
Site was very busy this Bank Holiday and vans were too close together, though apparently it's normally really quiet
No hot water for washing up
No soap in toilets
Overall we had a great time and would recommend this site, and the precipice walk nearby which is suitable for a 4 year old - about a 2 hour walk around a mountain, mostly level. Indian takeaway/restaurant in Dolgellau (Lemon Grass) is nice but a bit pricey.

This is our favourite campsite in North Wales.
Beautiful quiet setting surrounded by fields and mountains and only a two minute car journey to the local Somerfield (open until 9pm)and Dolgellau.
Archie the owner is very laid back and friendly and will always stop for a chat. Toilets are spotless at all times of the day as are the showers.
We heartily recommend this campsite and try to return every year.

What a lovely site.
Totally concur with the other reviewer. The chap who owns it and his wife are very chilled and always keen to stop and chat or help - really nice folks. No ask was too small.
The situation and views are just stunning, waking up each morning and looking across at Cadair Idris and other hills was a real experience!
Toilets etc were simple but always clean, remember to take your 50p for the showers (about 5 to 10 mins worth of time).
Two or three mins drive down into town, decent shops nearby and the likes of a nearby Somerfield and local Co-Op were of great help when we needed to get both food and stuff for the kids.
We spent most of our time on nearby Fairborne beach with some other friends when we were there (about 15 mins drive away). On the doorstep you've also got Barmouth and the fantastic Coed Y Brenin forest for the mountainbiking-oriented too.

This is a really nice site.
Not because the facilities are particularly cracking.
The location is towards the awesome mind, fantastic views from the top of the hill.
Ozzie who runs the site is such a nice guy and his wife and him bend over backwards to help you and be friendly in way that is totally genuine.
You can easily walk into town across the fields but the uphill walk back is less fun.
Really rate this site. Go there, I am sure you will too.
