Lovely site on hill outside Dolgellau. Friendly owners, quiet site and excellent facilities make this a great site. The key feature is the views south to Cader Idris. Been twice once cycle camping and recently with campervan. Both times a great welcome. Price is reasonable and worth it for warm showers and views. Highly recommended.

A fantastic site - gem of a find!
We went to this site 3 years ago with my parents and loved it so much we returned this week with my parents again and my husband's parents. We were in a tent and our parents in their motorhomes.
Archie and Cath are fabulous hosts / campsite owners. So friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Once you have checked with them where you can pitch, they are happy to let you get on with orientating and arranging your pitch how you like.
The facilities are kept sparking clean, not once did we find them any less than perfect cleanliness. They also have great powerful new hand-driers so no waiting about! Although you pay 50p for a shower they last for ages and are beautifully hot with a spacious cubicle. There is also a free-to-use hair drier in the ladies. There are also two sinks for washing up which are undercover.
The views from the site are incredible, even on a cloudy day. Archie's sheep are also in neighbouring fields which fit in with the background of rolling green hills.
There is a footpath down into the town of Dolgellau across fields and through a foresty-area near a little stream.
The main part of this campsite which makes it such a lovely place are Archie and Cath. They really make you feel at home and that you enjoy your holiday. We shall definitely be returning again! Thank you for your amazing hospitality.

Return visit with Ramblers club members, this place never disappoints. Always spotless and the owners go to extraordinary lengths to be friendly and help out. View is amazing. 50p gets you 7. 5 minutes decent hot shower and none of us needed more than 1 coin. We're pretty fussy when it comes to campsites so for us to make a return visit the site has to be a bit special.

This was was one of our many return visits to Cefn Maelan but the first this year. As normal we were met by the owners Mr+Mrs Jones who were as normal very helpful.
We have been coming here for a number of years now, and on our return there is always some new little improvements been done over the closed season but this site for us is just brilliant in every way. The first thing we noticed is that there is now a bigger and better turning area onto the touring field for larger set ups, also all the roads have been relaid which is very helpful for when the Welsh weather does not want to play ball & keeps all that mud out of your set up.
Also I noticed that all the walls have been rebuilt in the traditional way and are a great feature just to walk around and have a look at. There have been improvements also to the area where you can wash your dishes where Mr Jones explained that a new hot water heater had been fitted and there was now plenty of hot water.
The facilities in all the years we have been going have never ever been dirty, in fact I have had worse in some hotels in the UK.
Here also there have been some minor improvements over the years, but the time in the showers you get for Just 50p has now been lengthened.
We think the facilities are modern but that depends on your own personal thoughts.
There is plenty of space for the kids to play and run around and always someone for them to make new pals with.
This is a nice modern site if you enjoy the outdoor life with views that will stay in your mind for years, the local town is only a short walk away with great pubs & restaurants, also many great little cafes to explore.
So hope this helps anyone thinking of going this way, but please leave me a space as I will for sure be going back many more times, it is perfect for us.

This was our second stay at this small and old fashioned site. It has basic facilities but this is compensated by the most amazing views I have ever seen from a camp site and very friendly owners.
There are only a few tent sites on flat land and, in busy times, it seems you get put on a sloping pitch - we got there just in time to get a flat one!
The facilities have been recently refurbished but there is still only one shower in the ladies and one in the men's and two unisex ones in a separate shed. The showers are all 50p and you don't get very long for that - I ended up rinsing the conditioner from my hair in the sink one morning! The facilities are all very clean and there is plenty of hot water in the taps. The ladies shower was very dribbly but the one in the unisex block was a bit better. There is a free hairdryer in the ladies but it was useless (the owner told us a new one is on its way).
There is a small washing up area with a cranky water heater.
You can walk into Dolgellau down the road or on public footpaths across the fields from the site (NB these are not clearly signed - you need an OS map and a proficient map reader and sturdy footwear but, if you work it out, it cuts the corner off and brings you right to the edge of town).
The food is basic but tasty in the newly reopened Unicorn and the beer is great (it is now owned by the local Cader Ales brewery). The real ale (and cider) was also good in the Torrent Walk Hotel. And the cakes in JH Roberts are the most fantastic things ever!
I would thoroughly recommend the Torrent Walk from nearby Brithdir.
We had a lovely weekend and hope to be back

A lovely quiet site well away from the hustle and bustle. Set in beautiful scenery surrounded by wooded hillsides. Approach road is steep in places but plenty wide enough so no access problems are likely for any rig. The site is spotless throughout and has good hot showers for 50p. Archie, the site owner, is a grand fella.
I recommend the site!

Care must be taken on approaching this site. There is a hair pin bend (with plenty of room) and a hill of 1:7. If you have planned your route then you should not have a problem.
The owner, Archie, was on site when we arrived, but had no record of our booking, this was not a problem. I was driven around in Archie's Landrover to choose a site. The one I liked already had a caravan on it (unoccupied) and Archie was only too happy to move it. He does insist on placing your caravan himself (no cost involved). So he hitched up our caravan on his cleaned towball and with help from his son in law put it in position. He also puts his own wooden blocks down, then the legs and levels the caravan with his own spirit level, in 30 years of caravanning I have never had that happen before. He is very particular about this – even his wife agrees that he is fussy.
The shower and toilet facilities are very well appointed and kept very clean. There are extra showers in 'porta cabins'. There is a 50p charge for a shower. The washing up facilities nearby have two large sinks and an 'on demand' water boiler which was difficult to operate.
The whole site is very well kept and had wonderful views over Cader Idris and the surrounding area.
We paid £18 per night for two adults, car, caravan and electricity.
We would be very happy to visit again as do many of the visitors on the site.

Absolutely fantastic site. Turned up late on a Sunday evening after being let down by another site (Graig Wen).
The facilities were superb, spotless and practically brand new.
The owner couldn't have been any more friendly and hospitable. The other staff/farm workers were lovely and friendly too.
The farm & site is beautiful, and incredibly well maintained, with the most stunning views, especially of Cadir Idris. It is close to town, yet rural, and handy for the local supermarket. The sheep looked in top condition too!
I'm slightly reluctant to go into more detail, as I don't want it to become too popular! It was a lovely site, peaceful and beautiful and I'll hopefully be back next year.

Me and my Duke of Edinburgh gold group arrived at this glorious campsite on the final day of our expedition battered and scarred by previous experiences with midge invested sites. Being halfway up a hill gives the campsite some fantastic views and the facilities are brilliant. Warm showers and lovely grassy places to park a tent or caravan. BUT the owners were the best bit utterly friendly and even gave us our change in 50ps so we could access the showers ! Would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.

This is a fabulous site with spectacular panoramic mountain views. The owners are very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. Nice clean facilities and well kept grounds. Close to town with nice quaint pubs and plenty of walks to do if you're feeling energetic. Would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet, restful get away. Although it was quiet when we went I think the pitches are well spaced out even if it was busy there would be no overcrowding. Try it for yourself you won't be disappointed!
