Chose this site as plenty of cycle routes and we cycled into Blois, although it was further than expected! The site was very green and lush as you would expect early season with 10/12 units in residence. Pitches were large and level. Two toilet blocks and the one nearest reception had much better hot water and was generally warmer. Staff friendly and very helpful and you can order bread etc each day before 8 p. M. Cycle routes around were all excellent, well marked and took you through beautiful countryside which you would not experience in a car.

After turning off the main road and going further than we expected we got to the site and spent two nights there before going further south chasing the sun. Using the ACSI card we paid 31. 60 euros inc tax.
Our stay was in September and the site was showing signs that it was late season. Most of the pitches on this site are shaded by trees and had very little grass. Fortunately the weather was not too wet when we were there otherwise it might have been a bit messy underfoot. The toilets showers etc were 1st class. I did manage to find the satellite and get the tv working. It wasn't really warm enough to use the pool however, the pool and bar/restaurant areas looked inviting. We resisted temptation though owing to prices. There is a TV room with WiFi access.

Stayed at this site for 5 nights the beginning of Sept. We had booked, but there was no need and we were easily able to choose 2 pitches together overlooking the playing field. We chose a minimal amount of shade, but there was plenty to be had as there are many trees on the site.
The wash facilities were ample and spotlessly clean, and provided niceties like soap and paper not always found in France. ( no smell as in last review but we used larger facilities mid site, as opposed to front)
The mini golf was superb as was the warm pool and the children (6&8) felt safe to ride circuits of the campsite on bikes. The owner had also made an exercise route in a field at the rear which was fun. Fishing free, and large fish were seen, but not caught. The owner Laurent was always happy, and very helpful despite when we encountered car problems. Highly recommend this site, as it is in the middle of 5 or 6 circular cycle routes, and the area is very flat.

The welcome we received from Laurent the owner was a great start to the holiday - he could not have been more helpful. His son led the way to our pitch on his bike and we were shown to a quiet shady pitch next to the open field. It was a good pitch but unfortunately too narrow to put the porch on our tent. No matter, the weather was good (at first!).
We were very impressed with the site and the way everyone just got on with having a great family holiday - no excessive noise, no music blaring and everyone was very friendly.
The site bar and restaurant were very expensive which was a shame as we would have used it more but we were not prepared to pay silly prices.
The pool was clean and popular but never too busy. There were table tennis tables and a volleyball net and our two boys loved the freedom of being able to roam around and play games with children from different countries.
The site was very popular with the Dutch and English but there were also families from France, Spain and Germany. We loved to watch the Italians roll up in their HUGE motor homes.
The showers were clean and available but the toilets were a bit of a state. I am not sure what disinfectant Laurent used but it was unfortunate that it smelt of wee!
We went to the local chateau at Cheverny and we agree with the other review that the owners were cashing in. It reminded us of the blatant overcharging by Castle Howard or Chatsworth.
The people of the Loire were charming and polite with the exception of the two that served in the tea room at Cheverny. They must have come top of their class in eye rolling and that was when we were speaking French to them. Overpriced inadequate food served on paper plates!
We will certainly come back to visit the area again and will probably use Les Saules as a base.
A great introduction to French camping.

We arrived at les saules and were greeted in English and taken to our site which after previous sites was a little small. We were in an area surrounded by families and as we were a mature couple, would have preferred something a little quieter. Grumble over. The family that run the site are lovely as are the extra staff on site, nothing is too much trouble. Fresh bread can be ordered, loads for kids to do including pool, toilets very clean, the restaurant meals were fantastic as were the takeaway pizza the next night.
We walked (no bikes left) to cheverney the local chateaux in 25 mins across cycle paths over fields. Easy to find. Very expensive even though discounts are available from the site office. Impressive but we felt that the live in owners were cashing in on their captive audience too much. Sunday we visited Blois which was great. Free parking along the Loire river under trees, quaint cobbled streets. We went to the castle (again discounted by the site) and took the guided tour of the town by horse drawn carriage. Had a snack in the restaurant in front of the castle which was good value and watch out for the golden dragons (will have to experience that to believe it)monday went to chambord as we were told weekends were manic, and would hate to experience a weekend, very busy place but well worth the trip. We were told it would take 90 minutes to walk about but after 3 and half hours we called it a day. Second floor was a little disappointing turning it into a modern art gallery but the rest of the building and the grounds were breathtaking. If you only visit one chateau make it chambord. Took about 20 minutes from the site. We wanted to leave early next morning and laurent came and let us out at 7am. Very well worth a visit.

Gem of a campsite, Laurent and his family make everyone feel welcome and the whole campsite is well maintained and reflective of his dedication to making it a place to return to again and again. Large level pitches with electricity and most of them with water or within easy distance. No aqua pool, trampolines or animation which is a godsend, there is adequate children's play areas if needed, great bikes to hire and plenty of tracks around the villages and Chateaux. The sanitary blocks were always clean with separate ladies and gents bathrooms. The restaurant is excellent serving everything from pizzas to gourmet meals - we had fabulous roast lamb shank and fillet of salmon on a couple of times both cooked to perfection by the owners father-in-law. Free wi-fi in the tv lounge, HD tv where we were able to sit and watch Wimbledon on the rainy days we experienced.
No negatives at all about this site, we were hesitant about camping in the Loire Valley after reading reviews about thieves breaking into tents, however I questioned Laurent about this and he said most of the sites are on public footpaths along the river and are prone to people breaking in, whereas this site is only accessed by a main road and is surrounded by fields and farm land. We had no fear in leaving our tent at any time of the day and the owner is always on hand to deal with any issues.
Highly recommend this place.

We stayed 5 nights at this site and would highly recommend it. As others have said, it is a very friendly site and everyone gets a cheery hello from the owner whenever he goes past!
The pitches were a good size and are bordered by trees which gives a bit of shade without being too enclosed. The toilets and showers were modern and always very clean. There are good facilities on site including swimming pool, children's play areas, table tennis table and a field for walking / playing. There is a TV room with a computer with free internet access and free WiFi if you've got you own.
You can order bread etc every day and the bar and take-away were open every evening. The food at the take-away was good (pizzas, frites etc).
There are loads of cycle routes going directly from the campsite (search for 'Chateaux a Velo' for maps) which were well signposted and followed quiet roads and some tracks. We really enjoyed seeing the countryside and local chateaux this way, and even a trip to Chambord is possible in a day if you're feeling energetic!
Apart from the cycling there is so much to see and do in this area, we could have stayed for longer and would definitely return.

Everything about this exceptional site has probably already been said, but they deserve recognition for going the extra mile (km?) to ensure you have a great stay. Laurent and his family are delightful, they remember everyone's names and bellow greetings every time they see you, making you feel really at home. Spotless and well provisioned washrooms, toilets and showers, good chemical disposal and motor home service point, but during our stay the bar and shop were closed.
The site is exceptionally clean, the playing fields extensive as is the nature trail with physical challenges (balance beams, sea saws etc)along with wild life 'posters in several languages making this a really interesting site. We travel with three dogs and the site allows dogs off lead (when not to many people around) on the playing field and around the nature trail. Extensive walks around the property add to the fascination. For all that, an outstanding site, whether for an overnighter or several days, hard to fault. 16 Euros with an ASCI card is hard to beat.

We visited this site in August 2010, to spend some time in the Loire valley, we had only spent 3 or 4 days at a time before we spent 10 days exploring the local chateaus. We were not disappointed, Cheverny can be seen from the site entrance. Chambord, probably the most majestic chateau in the Loire is nearby. The facilities are clean and well kept, pitches are of a good size many with shade.I cannot speak to highly enough about the site and its owners.

Camping Le Saules is a wonderful, friendly family run site with Laurence riding around on his bike giving everyone he meets a cheery hello or a funny comment.
The toilet and shower facilities are plentiful and spotlessly clean and the pool was excellent for both children and adults to cool off during the long hot afternoon sun.
The restaurant/bar area was very clean and the food reasonably priced and of good quality. Croissants and bread could be ordered for the next day and the small shop had a selection of milk, bread, tins, etc.
The site is situated in a very beautiful area and is ideally placed for visits to the chateaus of Cheverney, which can be reached on a short bike ride or chateau Chambord. A trip to the local Winery (which can be reached by bike) is a must. Cycle maps are available from reception and cater for all levels and bikes can be hired for a small fee.
There was plenty to keep teenagers occupied both on site and in close proximity. My son and I kayaked down the River Loire and where charged 18 euros each to hire the equipment (it would be double in Britain). There was also a kids club providing fun and games for toddlers each morning.
On a down note – we booked this site for the fishing but were hugely disappointed when we seen the lakes which were no bigger than duck ponds. They did have fish in and would great to teach a young child how to fish, but no good for the serious fisherman. This was remedied with fishing trips to the villages of Cellettes and Bracieux, which are a short drive away.
On leaving this site, Laurence came and visited us to give us a cheery goodbye and hoped that we had enjoyed ourselves and that we would return – which we most definitely will.
Great site for families.
