Great location on three level tiers with room for a small number of tents, ran as a sideline to the guesthouse, the facilitys however are very poor, dirty and in need of refurbishment or maybe just a daily clean. This site could be nice, and if you dont mind the rough bits Buttermere is well worth a visit.

A small campsite in an idyllic quiet and sheltered location 2 minutes walk from Buttermere Lake. The site is on 4 flat and even terraces which can take about 16 family size tents without feeling too crowded. The lake is easily accessible and is surrounded by pebble beaches. There is a small stream which runs past the bottom of the campsite into the lake. Walking from the campsite to the lake I noticed, on at least one occasion, the distinct smell of effluent coming from the stream. Buttermere with 2 hotels/pubs is about one mile away. Sadly the facilities let this site down with. The gents has only 2 toilets and one very feeble shower which every 30 seconds cycles between being scaldingly hot to very cold. There is little to excuse the grotty appearance and seeming failure to clean the facilities at least once a day. Outside there is a single sink for washing up and the provision of drinking water. There is a drying room which like the toilets is dirty. In summary if you are prepared to rough it and overlook the problems with the facilities this could be just the place for you.

A terrace site with views of the lake. It was really lovely and quiet. A half-hour stroll along the lake brings you to the village, which is equipped with two good pubs with decent selections of real ales. Showers and toilets were on the grotty side, but there was plenty of hot water.
