Lovely, lovely campsite. South Breazle is in the middle of nowhere so may not suit everyone but we have two children aged 4 and 6, and they didn't stop playing. We were lucky that the weather was fabulous for the four nights we stayed here but I still think we would have had the best time.

The toilets and showers were amazingly clean, the showers are hot power showers with a large private changing area with chair. The showers were so large it was fine getting you and a child showered and dressed at the same time. There is also a family shower room. Although there are only four showers in the ladies, and four in the mens, we never had to queue as the site is so small.

Each pitch was very large, and clearly marked out by individual names. We had our ten-man tent, two cars and gazebo on our all-grass pitch, with still plenty of space for the kids to play at the front.

The pitches circle round a large field, with football goals. This enabled us to have full view of the kids when they were off playing.

The chemical disposal and rubbish bins are in the field next door. As is the amazing Fun Fountain, that kept our kids and their friends amused for hours. In this field they do need to be supervised, as it is out of sight of the tents.

There is a small shop with toys, ice creams, sweets, fresh eggs, frozen goods, jams etc which is open from 9 to 10 and 5 to 6 every day. You can re-freeze your ice blocks in their freezer. If the shop is closed and you need something, or your freeze blocks back, the owner can be contacted by a free direct line, situated in the washing up area, and will come down to the shop.

The owner was extremely friendly and helpful.

The nearest eatery needs to be booked and serves amazing food and is about ten minutes away. There is also a very good chip shop which is a 30 minute return journey away. Launceston has a few large supermarkets near the A30 slip road and this also is a 30 minute round journey.

The Bude Beach is less than an hour away, it is a lovely beach offering surf waves, sandy beaches and rock pools.

The (only) downside. The site is in the middle of nowhere.

The upside. The site is in the middle of nowhere. BLISS.

Myself, my husband and our 17 year old daughter visited this site during August this year and we were very pleased with it. The site is in the middle of nowhere, down a bumpy country lane with very few sign posts so printing off the directions from their website is a very good idea.

We were lucky when we arrived that the shop was open and someone was there to welcome us and direct us to our pitch. The pitch was a very good size and was one of the things that had attracted us to this site.

We were on the right hand side on a slight hill, some of the pitches are hard standing whilst others are a mixture of grass and hand standing, ours was just grass. We would love to come back to this site and when we do we would prefer a pitch with both hard standing and grass, so that we would have somewhere solid to park the car, rather than on the grass which in times of wet weather, which we had a fair bit of, may get muddy and could be unpredictable as the ground is very soft.

The shop was only open an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening which for us was fine. We used the freezer to store our freezer packs which worked well for us, though as someone suggested in another review having a freezer that is accessible all day would make things easier.

The shower block is very clean, spacious and well cared for. The showers are large and have a separate area, with chair and hook, to change in. The showers are operated by push button and were powerful and hot. There are only 4 showers but we never had to queue to use them, the same for the toilets. The washing up area was again roomy with sinks and washing machine and dryer. Plenty of hot water. Dryer uses tokens which cost £2.50 for half and hour. We used it once.

The shop stocked essentials and although was only open for a limited time Louise was always helpful and friendly. We would recommend the Murder Mystery tours in nearby Tavistock and Okehampton which are sold in the shop.

The countryside around the site is wonderful, we were not lucky enough to see the wild deer but we did encounter lots of small frogs on an evenings walk along the road! Roadford Lake is about a 20 minute walk away and is well worth a visit.

We did not use the fun fountain as the weather was not great, which was a great disappointment to our daughter! There is plenty of space in the field next to the site and also in the middle of the site for children to play.

Overall we would recommend this site to anyone who wants somewhere quiet and away from everything. We will definitely be visiting it again in the near future, just hope that the weather is dryer than it was this time!

We have just returned from a 9 night trip and couldn't possibly speak highly enough of this site, it really is fabulous! The showers are quite possibly the best ever to be found on a campsite - our 12 year old son was in them every day, sometimes even twice a day he was so impressed! They were clean, extremely powerful and always hot. The toilets could use some hooks on the back of the doors, so that you have somewhere to hang your stuff when popping to the loo before a shower, but that really is the only negative thing I can say.

The fun fountain provided hours of amusement for the kids and it was great to see them all just playing in an empty field!

The local pub is brilliant - great value for money and friendly staff, but be sure to book, we tried to book a table twice during our stay without success, but third time definitely lucky!

If you are looking for a relatively quiet and peaceful holiday then this is the place for you, we are not fans of 'big facilities' campsites and this was just perfect for us.

What can we say which hasn't already been said, the pitches are huge, bonus was having the water at the pitch so didn't have to bring a water container with us.

Toilets/Showers are fantastic always plenty of hot water.

It's a quiet site which is what we were after.

Can't find any faults with this site.

We found a lovely pub, the Lifton Hotel which serves great food at reasonable prices.

Lydford Gorge is absolutely brilliant well worth a visit, along with the Tamar Otter Sanctuary.

Will we be driving the 200+ miles again to visit this site, oh yes we will.

We were very encouraged by the South Breazle website, and were not disappointed when we arrived. It's a very bumpy farm lane so drive carefully! Louise was extremely friendly and helpful as was her daughter.

The facilities were clean and the free showers were hot(push button). We particularly appreciated the generous 'dry' area inside each shower cubicle which had a chair and coat hooks for your stuff. This made showering with a child quite easy. You could probably get 2 kids in there with you as the shower cubicles are quite large. There is also a family bathroom with a toilet, sink, step for small people, baby change unit and a shower which apparently is a bit cooler for little ones, though I didn't try it.

It's fair to say the site is in the middle of nowhere and unless you knew it was there you would probably not stumble over it - but this is a good thing because it was so quiet and safe for the kids. They thoroughly enjoyed the fun fountain and messing around on the playing field in the middle of the camping area.

We chose this site because the pitches are enormous (15m x 12m) and even though our pitch was second from the bottom, it was still only a minute's walk to the toilets and showers. We used the ice pack freezing facilities in the shop freezer and really this is the only point that could be improved - the shop only opens 9-10am and 5-6pm (small site - I do understand why) but that meant to change the packs we had to get back from day trips earlier than we may have wished. Perhaps a dedicated freezer in the washing up/laundry area would be a good plan. The fresh eggs were yummy.

There are several NT properties in the area (Lydford Gorge is brilliant if you're fit and you have sensible shoes with you) and the Tamar otter sanctuary definitely has the 'ahhh' factor.

This site is just what I love when camping, large pitch size plenty of open space for the children to play in (but you can also keep an eye on them!) and warm, clean toilet and showering facilities. Also set somewhere that’s picturesque and away from road noise – South Breazle has it all –perfect!

A nice touch to name all the pitches. The kids enjoyed the water fountain even though it was rather chilly to get completely soaked, but good entertainment anyway.

This is simply our kind of campsite. We visited with a 3 year old, a 2 year old and 3 month old. This was our second visit.

Space:

The pitches are huge. Our Vango Icarus Tent with porch extension looked lost in the corner of our plot. We also took two cars - but still plenty of space for playing on the pitch. But, with the huge central play area which was in sight, the children ran and ran and ran! The communal ride on toys we enjoyed last time had disappeared. But inspired by last time we had our own for the kids to use. The non-serviced pitches are not perfectly flat.

Facilities:

Wonderfully new modern toilet block with washing up facilities, disabled toilet and for us the life saver was the family bathroom with shower, toilet, baby changing, potty etc all one private space. Could do with better Extract ventilation as it got very humid in there and didn't feel dry until the door open and fresh air let in. Plenty of hot water! Nice touch was the provision of hand soap. Shower cubicles very large with space for you to change privately outside the wet area with wooden seat and hooks for clothes.

Play:

No children's play equipment, but plenty of space for ball games. We all loved the fun fountain. This is water that shoots out the ground on a five minute cycle once activated. It was great on the hotter days! This is not in the main camping field but in the adjacent area.

To do:

We visited Trethorne leisure farm - a bit pricey - I thought at first and a bit miffed there were further charges inside - but we soon discovered the expanse of free activities inside - ideal for a rainy day! We also bowled here.

We went for short evening walks around roadford lake and also spent a day at the beach (Bude).

Conclusion:

For - it is in the middle of nowhere. Against - it is in the middle of nowhere - 30min round trip to a supermarket at Launceston (Tesco) or Okehampton (Waitrose). Camp shop and reception is not open very much - but I used the internal phone for the farmhouse half a dozen times in our short stay and they came and opened up without any hint of annoyance (Between 8am and 8pm). The internal phone acts as their service desk and I guess keeps the cost down rather than having a full time receptionist! Being able to select and book a pitch online is great! Wifi worked really well. We enjoyed our stay and we will be back. I would recommend it to like minded people.

This is my second review of this site. In my opinion, which hasn't changed from my first review,if you want a quiet site, with no bar, massive pitches, large play area, lovely facilities, friendly owners, central Devon location - 30 minutes from Bude beach, loads of stuff to do in local area, wildlife, and a general chill, then this site is for you.

It's the only site I've returned to - it's good to visit somewhere new isn't it? - and I'm already booked for 2011. The kids love it. The fun fountain is an added bonus, and we were lucky to have good weather - it was in use every day. The field in the middle saw football, kite flying, cricket, tag, badminton, Chinese lantern lighting, general old fashioned kids fun.

This site really is the bees knees if it's a quiet chill out you're after. It only loses marks because it is a fair drive to anywhere, which doesn't always suit me if I want to open the scrumpy. Tis handy for lots of tourist attractions tho.

This place isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea but I really like it. First impressions when arriving in the wind and rain weren't good but once we settled in and the sun came out we could take in our surroundings.

The shop is only open twice a day for an hour at a time, if there's nobody there you're asked to use the internal phone to announce your arrival. All the pitches are individually named which is a nice personal touch, made us feel we were treated like people rather than numbers. We were on The Beech, it was a bit muddy after the heavy rain but we were supplied with rubber mats to help combat this.

It is very middle of nowhere and a good car ride to anywhere but for me that's a positive, if you want disco's and singing and dancing til dawn then this is not the place for you. The pitches are massive so you can really spread out and it never feels like you're camping on top of each other.

Unfortunately the fun fountain was out of action during our stay. There is no play area as such but the middle of the field is left empty for kids to play on and as you can see it from wherever you are pitched is really safe to let your kids run around and have fun, our 4 year old loved it.

There is very little lighting around the site, a bit of a safety issue for some maybe but it does mean that on a clear night you can see an amazing amount of stars and one of the pitches is called the stargazer.

I won't dwell on the facilities block as others have already said how good they are and I agree. It's the little personal touches that make this site a nice place to be, the owners seem to have really thought about how they can offer their customers a good camp site rather than how they can squeeze in as many people as possible to make as much money as possible.

Apparently this site is only 4 years old and I expect it will get better and better. I believe the owners are thinking about putting hard standing on all the pitches to make them better in the wet weather. If you're reading this can I suggest you make all your pitches half hard standing and half grass, they are certainly big enough and would give people the choice.

I booked this site the night before on my net book while touring Cornwall: a good website and good reviews. I received an automatic e-mail acceptance and money debited at the time: everything hunky dory so far!

Followed the web site directions but there was absolutely no signage to the site: a nuisance as I could not follow web site while on the move. Good, wide, solid and bumpy approach roads.

A wet miserable Sunday afternoon arrival, 10 units on site, no warden, no welcome pack as advertised, no wifi anywhere, shop shut with no opening times, shop stock obviously extremely low: nothing worse than arriving without a clue where you actually are and nobody to communicate with !

Went straight to previously arranged site and connected up: no problem. I phoned the owner on the internal phone to say we had arrived and that there were no welcome packs. She didn't actually know that we were arriving: it was all automatic. Very impersonal! Luckily there was good Mobile coverage so I connected up with my net-book and dongle to write this review and locate myself on Google Earth.

Ablutions block very good but with no heating, showers free and very modern and very well maintained. You have to step in the shower naked (as usual) reach under the shower head and press the button! Do you use an umbrella for that first blast of tepid water or a broomstick? However, the showers were very good, a bit on the cool side. The Mens had mops and buckets with no water in them and the Ladies had mops with no buckets.

The sites are big; some with only grass and a very good road around a square/oblong set-up.

So far I've been on site for 3 hours, maybe there is somebody somewhere.! I'll let you know.

The surrounding area includes Okehampton via the A30, Bodmin moor and Dartmoor: plenty for everybody.

Would I come back? Wellllll, it's first impressions that count !
