In a beautiful position, with outstanding views. In a great spot if you plan to go over to Skomer. Ferry just a few hundred yards down the road. It is quicker and easier to get to the ferry via the road rather than the coastal path, as you first get your ferry ticket from the top of the hill.

Plenty of room between pitches. My only gripe would be that the dishwashing area was not very clean. It is obvious that someone had washed their dirty boots in one of the sinks as it was full of mud and grass. You can't blame the owners for this, it is clearly the fault of the inconsiderate visitor. Only a couple of showers which you have a pay 50p for and if there were many more people on the site not sure how the facilities would cope.

Takes about 45 mins at a fairly brisk pace to walk into the village where the nearest pub/restaurant is.

The road down to the site was not fun! the day we travelled (Sunday) it was very busy and is very narrow in parts. We had to reverse several times, which in a motorhome isn't easy.

 Campsite:

The campsite is relatively basic - 2 large fields where tents and motorhomes set up around the outsides next to the hedge. The fields are large and while I was there no one set up in the middle which gave a sense of space. Generally the plots are fairly spaced out so you're not too close to your neighbour but there were a few which were too close for my liking. The fields are sloped downwards towards the sea- there aren't many flat plots but most are still suitable for sleeping, only a few are very steep. No hookups from what I could see.

The views are very good. Virtually all plots can see the sea and the sun sets in just the right spot.

The toilet block is unisex and quiet - not good if you're a nervous 'wee-er'. Mostly clean and supplied with loo roll. The showers are also unisex and 50p for 4mins - a little pricey in my opinion. The showers are shabby and could really do with a upgrade. The actual showers are good, its just the cubicles which are poor- small and the shower curtains are near pointless, water gets everywhere so more a wetroom. Overall these facilities were ok, if the site was full I feel these would be very busy. Also 3 sinks to wash pans.

There were freezers to put ice blocks and the like but as far as other facilities go there weren't any- you go for the views!

Surrounding area - this campsite is quite remote. As a guide, it takes about 25mins driving to get to Haverfordwest. That's also where the closest big shop is. The nearest 'true' beach is near as the crow flies but in reality you have to drive there and pay for parking - £5 a day towards National Trust. If you don't want to pay this much you have to drive at least 15mins to get to the next beach! Crazy considering the campsite is so close to the sea. The campsite is next to the coastal footpath so you can walk around to a nearby cove but its no sandy beach.

Best for - Campers who want a basic campsite and for peace&quiet and most likely to spend more time at the campsite than elsewhere. Small families who would benefit from all the space to play. Anyone wanting a sea view.

Not good for - Anyone wanting to get to a beach easy or in walking distance. People who want facilities like playground or games room. Large groups who'll be making lots of noise.

I love the remoteness of this campsite and it's one that I keep coming back to each year. The owners make you feel really welcome and the views, the wildlife, the walks around the area and the sunsets are fabulous.

The site is spacious, you don't feel you're on top of the person camping next to you. Whilst there's no electric hook up (which is part if the charm to me) the owners will charge your phone etc for a small fee which keeps the teenagers happy. The toilet block and the showers are kept clean and checked regularly throughout the day. There's hot water at the sinks for washing dishes at set periods in the day.

Definitely a site for those wanting a retreat and to enjoy the natural delights of Pembrokeshire.

I reckon this is one of the best sites I've ever stayed on. Its remote and relatively quiet. The views are excellent. The facilities are very good, everything that you could want and hot water all the time.

The owners are really friendly and welcoming. Good walking from the campsite and beaches not too far away. It is a windy spot, when the wind is blowing but Pembrokeshire is pretty windy so it goes with territory.

Kids loved this site and the freedom to run, the fields are kept well mown and tents kept to edges so there is loads of space. Brilliant.

We selected West Hook Farm based on the reviews on this site. We wanted a basic campsite in a beautiful location with good sea views. The site was everything we wanted and more. We were placed in the main field and were able to choose our own plot.

All the plots were large and around the edge of the field. We chose one halfway up the field with good sea views but less exposed than those right by the sea. We were greeted by several campers who return every year and.

The facilities were basic but very clean and hot water was available at all times we needed it. We also used the fridge and freezer in the barn. The location is great if you want a tranquillity and to beautiful scenery.

Within a short walk are Martin's Haven for Skomer Island and Marloes Sands beach. Marloes village close by also had a Post Office, The Clock House tea shop which we enjoyed and the Lobster Pot pub which did good food.

Having never been to Pembrokeshire before we will definitely be back to West Hook.

We visited West Hook Farm over the August Bank Holiday. The weather was damp and very windy but the excellent views were compensation!

The first thing to point out is to find the campsite Sat Nav will only take you as far as the village of Marloes (nearest shop, pub and cafe / restaurant). You then need to carry on through the village and out the other side for another mile or two. Though remote it's well signed when you get there. It's also named on the OS map. The owners were very friendly when we arrived and very helpful when needed.

On arriving at the campsite the overall first impression was windy! The site leads directly onto the Coastal Path, which is right on the cliff edge. There are fabulous views, but extremely exposed. Putting the tent up in the wind and rain was a bit tricky.

During our stay we did a couple of pleasant short walks along the path. First Northwards past some lovely bays, then cut across to the lobster pot pub. Another day we turned left at the bottom of the camping field to go south; a short walk to Martins Haven where the boats to Skomer run from (but had been cancelled due to the weather while we were there!). We carried on to the headland and the Coastguard lookout for views of Skomer. A couple of the bays were even home to a few seals with their pups! Amazing.

As other reviews have stated the facilities are basic but functional. There's everything you need, but with a rustic feel. There are 3 showers, each a separate uni-sex cubicle. Two are 50p showers (lasting 4 - 4 1/2 minutes) and one £1 shower (I didn't use). The showers are hot and powerful enough. The toilets are also unisex, with the main area having about 5 toilets and sinks (this bit was closed during the day when the site was very quiet) and then another 2 toilets and 3 sinks. Hot water was from small water heaters which seemed only to be on at peak times. Clean, with soap and toilet roll always available I can't complain.

The washing up area had two sinks, but oddly no hot water. It would have been much more useful if they'd put another small water heater like in the toilets in here - even if it used a coin meter. We never used these washing up sinks because of the lack of hot water, washing up at the tent instead. The sinks did have a big drinking water sign, but a water carrier can't be fitted under the taps. A notice to say another water tap was available on the side of the house would have been useful. Also in this area were a couple of fridges, free for campers to use.

An excellent bonus of the site was a barn for campers to use. The barn, round the side of the house, had a sink, several tables with chairs and two freezers for free ice block freezing. An excellent place to escape from the weather we used it on one evening to sit and eat dinner with our friends rather than sit in a very blowy tent. Some kids on the site also made use of it for playing games.

Overall a lovely rustic site with fabulous sea views and access directly onto the coastal path for walking. However, being so exposed meant the wind did get a bit tedious, keeping us awake at night at times. The location was rural, perhaps a bit too rural considering the weather limited the amount we could do outdoors - it wasn't really beach weather!

Stayed here late May bank holiday weekend 2008. I am pretty new to the organised campsite experience, but I enjoyed the site. The location and the views are stunning, as you'd expect in this part of Wales. The site is adjacent to the Pembrokeshire Costal Path, and a short-ish walk to the departure point for Skomer Island, a place world-reknowned for it's vast wildlife, including its sea bird colony. Along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, you have many unspoilt beaches and places to visit. I believe there is a pub/restaurant and various conveniences in the village 'up the road' (2 to 3 miles away), but didn't use them, as I was on foot.

As I don't have a car, I rely on public transport to get me to these stunning places. The problem I find with that is public transport can only take me so far – and I am stuck with the more 'touristy' areas, which I am not a fan of. Not so with West Hook Farm Campsite, which, as a working farm, is on it's own sizeable grounds, with no nearby neighbours, other than the wildlife for which this part of Pembrokeshire is famous for. There is a bus that runs to Skomer Island departure point car park (Martins Haven), from which the campsite is about a 5/10 min walk away. So, if you are like me, stuck with your own legs as transport, but do not like the standard built up hustle and bussle of public-transport-accessible campsites – I'm sure you'll enjoy this place.

I got the bus from Haverfordwest bus station, which is a 10 minute walk from Haverfordwest train station (or a short taxi ride). The bus route is covered by two bus companies, which involves a change of bus along its route to Milford Haven. As of 2008 the changing point was at Marloes, which as the nearest village the whole thing can be a little confusing. Check out the Pembrokeshire County Council website for Coastal Bus Service timetables and the 'Puffin Shuttle' (an apt name) (Haverfordwest to Martins Haven).

The site facilities are 'basic' but functional. There is a double sink area and fridge. The fridge, whilst clean and functional, has seen better days cosmetically. There are 2 sections to the unisex toilet blocks. The newer, modern section seems to only be opened during the busy times, and themselves are bright, clean, with several toilets, sinks and shelves, as well as shaving points, mirrors etc; and on demand hot water via electric water heater. At all other times, the more 'basic' toilets are permanently opened and consists of 2 toilets, 2 sinks, shelves, mirrors, and if memory serves me correctly, one shaving point. It was kept fairly clean (even in this busy period) and the owners print out useful BBC weather information, and post it in the toilets. There always seemed to be enough loo roll! Very important!

The shower blocks, again, are 'basic', and of rustic build; but completely functional. There is no heating in the shower blocks – but this is camping! As of May 2008 they cost 50p for about 8 minutes hot water. They had a concrete base to the shower basin. One thing that concerned me was the removable homemade wooden grill that went across the dip in the shower basin. It was broken, not designed for someone of any kind of substantial build, and just seems a bit flimsy and unsafe. I removed it and didn't use it – but you'll need your flip flops if you do this! Another downside I found to the shower and toilet blocks was the floor tiles. In their budget approach to construction, they have used highly inappropriate 'kitchen standard' glossy floor tiles that have no friction and are not design to get excessively wet, which they inevitably do when showering, or when raining. Not being designed for 'wet flooring', they get very slippy in the wet, and I found myself nearly slipping up a couple of times. Whilst this wouldn't stop me visiting again, it is a definite hazard. The owners would serve the site well to change these, and this is my only real negative point of the whole site. But all in all the shower blocks are very basic but adequate; the toilet blocks a little better.

The camp site itself, which is divided into 2 parts, is on a gentle slope, with stunning views over St. Brides Bay and the peninsula in which this campsite is located. And this is what one comes to this site for! It's HIGHLY enviable location right next to Skomer Island and the re-knowned Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

In the campsite itself, we had difficulty finding enough soil depth to put our tent pegs in, and had to put them in at a considerable angle. But we stayed very near the lower end of the site, nearest the Coastal Path, so, we were probably close to bedrock, hence the difficulty; the tent held up well though, even in the storms. I don't know for certain, but I guess there is more soil depth at the upper end, as there were bigger family tents holding down quite well in the storms also. The camp fields were freshly mowed, but the boundary edges left nice and wild showed off some of the lovely rare flora around these part.

As mentioned, during the latter part of our stay, the storms kicked in. The owners open up their barn when weather gets too harsh. They had laid on some tables and chairs in the barn, and allow people to cook in their. The barn has a basic, rustic, sink area. I hate to keep using the 'basic' word, as it was homely, and was a very welcome relief to the storms and our leaking tent. But it is a working barn, and one shouldn't expect mod-cons and conversions – it is what it is – a comfortable place to escape to in unfavourable weather. I also considered it an added bonus that you share the barn with nesting swallows. The barn has lights, so could be used at night, and they lay on a few magazines to read. It's a good place to get chatting to other campers.

The owners were friendly enough - informative, helpful, polite and friendly. They were particularly helpful when I rung up to inquire about public transport. They were also helpful when I got food poisoning and offered to call the doctor. As I had no car, the lady kindly offered to give me a lift to the B&B up the road, as I felt too ill to stay in a tent overnight (had a blow up mattress malfunction, and was not in the mood to sleep on a bed that had popped several airsprings which had risen to 3 times the mattresses normal width in paces). As it happened, I decided to stick it out in the tent.

For those of you who are camping in tents, the owners also allow you to charge up your mobile phone in their house for a small charge. The signal for O2 was pretty good. Patchy in the odd place, but I managed to get mobile internet on my phone, as well as send and recieve texts and calls.

Overall, I enjoyed the campsite and I would definitely go back. Although I have used the term 'basic' to describe some facilities, they are absolutely sufficient, and for those who prefer the latest 'mod-camping-cons' on their campsites – the views and location will more than make up for it. I would definitely recommend.

This is a first class campsite, because it is quiet, with a stunning view over St Brides bay, the best area of natural beauty in Europe.
Close to the Pembrokeshire Coastal path, Skommer Island. Very windy & wet sometimes! Basic, but clean toilets and showers.
Friendly owners. This is what camping is about! away from fancy shops, club rooms etc. Just good old fashion camping. In the most westerely corner of Wales.

Had a lovely stay at this stunning location. Rates are reasonable, showers at 50p a time. Basic facilities but kept very clean.
Gentle sloping fields, overlooking St Brides bay.
Owners very considerate of our need for a large pitch for our tipi.
Good walking and fishing nearby,-beautiful beaches.
If you want amazing views and lovely surroundings, without commercialism, you'd be hard pressed to find a better site.

Great sea views of St David's bay and literally on the coastal path. Many pitches are a bit on the "slopey" side but the views and sunsets make up for it. Very friendly atmosphere with plenty of regulars who return yr after yr. Toilet facilities a bit basic but adequate. Can get v windy but look where it is! The pub down the rd. is standard fare but can get v buisy. Loads of Nat Trust. Dale v. Close and perfect for sailing boats. Oil terminal a bit of an eyesore on that side though.
