We have to write a review to thank Heather and Steve for running such a wonderful campsite but part of us doesn't want to tell anyone as it is a real hidden gem!
It is a site in a beautiful part of the world on the banks of the Swale. There is no internet or mobile coverage so you can escape from the rest of the world.
The site does cater mainly for those walking the coast to coast or Penine Way and is basic but that is part of its charm. Do not come here looking for a ritzy site with entertainment.
The owners are great hosts and offer delicious food at very reasonable prices - just what we needed one day after taking two hours to put up our tent in a gale and a few days later at the end of an all day hike.
The site can be a bit windy but that is to be expected and when the sun shines there can be no more beautiful a place.
Our children made friends with two other little boys and they all spent their time doing what little boys should be doing in their holidays, playing with sticks, climbing and finding dead mice and sheep skulls!
There is a lot of wildlife round the site and the sound of the curlews in the evening is wonderful.
It is very isolated and a long way from any substantial shops but again that is exactly what we were looking for.
We cannot wait to visit again and wish Heather and Steve all the very best in their future endeavours.

I just had a weekend here and what a fantastic location situated out in the wilds.
Heather and Steve were fantastic hosts and couldn't do enough to help. This ranged from giving me directions to get there, allowing me to arrive early morning(due to family circumstances). Offering to help me pitch my tent and even going out of their way to find me an electric hook up lead when mine was too short to reach the point. Until the rest of my family arrived later in the day with the remainder of our camping gear they made sure I was okay and that I had everything I needed.
Although basic facilities on the site were spotlessly clean and well looked after. I thought the picnic tables on each spot a great addition.
The only downside was the weather was very windy and rainy when we were there but there was the barn to gather in and everyone on the site was so friendly. Even though we did get a lot of rain there was no problem with drainage on the site. When the wind dropped and the Sun came out on Sunday evening it was glorious.
I will not hesitate to return to this lovely quiet site and just hope I get better weather next time.

A fantastic quiet, get away from it all camp site. It is predominantly used by backpackers. We went as a family for the weekend and still felt very welcome. The site is next to a river and waterfall, it was very soothing to fall asleep to the sound of the waterfall and the curlews at night.
Heather and Steve are very helpful and made sure we were set up okay and also offered to help when we were packing up, they are a lovely couple and run this site really well.
We didn't sample the food, but am sure it is lovely and useful too that they have a licence to sell alcohol.
There are two toilets and two showers, they were always very clean and the showers were free and hot! One of the toilet/shower rooms was heated. There is one pot wash sink. The site was fairly busy when we were there and we never had to queue for the toilet.
The tent area is quite flat, there are picnic bench tables dotted around the site and a barn with tables and chairs and a sofa. So if you have nowhere to eat inside your tent, you can eat or relax there under cover.
I thought the fees were reasonable, considering this is such a beautiful location. There isn't anything there for kids, but ours occupy themselves, they loved watching the waterfall and the ducks and chickens and because the site was so small, we didn't have to worry about traffic.
We will definitely return to this site, as the walks in the area are amazing and our kids really enjoyed it too.

What a great campsite! It's run by a very friendly lady who provides good food and beer. If only all campsites were like this!
The location is beautiful, right next a river and as Keld is on the crossing point of the Coast to Coast and Pennine Way routes this is an ideal place to stay if you're doing either of those.
There are only two showers but on a small site that is fine.
There are a few picnic tables scattered around also a shelter. The shelter makes big difference - somewhere dry and slightly warmer to sit around and eat / chat / plan.

What a fabulous campsite. We stayed here for one night whilst walking the Coast to Coast and it was the nicest campsite we stayed on in a long time. The site itself is well maintained and in a beautiful location on the banks of the Swale.
It's about a quarter of a mile from the village of Keld but everything you need is available from the campsite itself (not that there's much in Keld anyway!).
They provide breakfast and evening meals which were of a high standard and very reasonably priced. £5 for a big bowl of beef stew and a baguette which was tasty, filling and very welcome at the end of a long days walk. Beer and wine are also available.
They could charge so much more for this site and you would still feel you were getting value for money. The washing up and shower facilities were excellent, at no extra charge.
There is also a spacious barn if you want to get out of the wind and rain which has tables, chairs and books/magazines. Thankfully, it was a glorious afternoon so we spent it on the picnic benches. An absolute gem of a site which we will definitely be revisiting.

This site was a welcome change from the wild camping we had done whilst walking the coast to coast path. The owners Heather and Steve are lovely people and couldn't do enough to help. My son and I sampled Heather and Steve's homemade beef curry and beef stew which they sell at a very reasonable price of five pounds which comes with either pitta bread or baguette. We found the food to be plentiful, wonderfully tasty and wholesome just right for walkers after a hard days walking.
Facilities are good with showers and toilets on site but the best thing was the cosy shelter on the campsite that we found to be a godsend when you only have a tent to sit and shelter in. Inside the shelter there are tables, chairs and sofas to sit on so it has become the meeting place for tenter's to have a chat and a beer in.
Heather and Steve sell canned Strongbow cider and Black Sheep bitter in a bottle at very reasonable prices (you certainly don't get ripped off by Heather and Steve unlike many other places we visited whilst doing the coast to coast). I understand from our good friends the Australians who we kept meeting along the way Steve, Phil, Debbie and Sandy that the B&B is also very good.
The views are as you would expect in this beautiful part of Yorkshire. Not a lot around Keld but there is a pub come hotel and a nice tea room come shop there also. As an earlier reviewer has said Englands highest pub the Tan Hill is only four miles away which is well worth a visit.
All in all a great place to stay and we will definitely be returning there in the very near future.

We visited here for a weekend and had a fabulous time. We were greeted by a very friendly Hether and shown where we could pitch. The site is next to a river which is lovely a peaceful and relaxing.
We woke to sunshine the next day (always helps!) and walked from the site to Muker following the river, had a pint in one of the pubs and walked back again on the other side of the river. Breath taking scenery and Muker is a very quaint pretty village.
The facilities on the site are very basic but were kept clean at all times. Heather cooks up breakfast butties and evening meals which we didn't partake in as we had brought our own supplies and planned a trip to the local pub. They also sell wine and beer, chilled! Great! It is also good valu3 for money at £10 per night for me hubby and dog.
We were given a very warm welcome by the pub just up the road as was our dog, and had a fantastic 3 course meal. We were asked to sit in a different room to the other eaters as we had our dog, but to be honest this was more our cup of tea, much more informal and cosy.
We will definitely return here as we felt relaxed the minute we arrived and there are so many lovely places to visit and the site is just lovely.

This site is in the most beautiful location, right next to the river and its own waterfall. It is quite close to most places and popular with walkers doing the coast to coast walk. The journey to get to the surrounding villages either by walking or driving is out of this world.
The site is clean with plenty of hot water,Toilet paper, and hand towels, all of which are cleaned on a regular basis. We had our tent with electric for a week just £95, that's just £13 a night in peak season, fantastic value for money.
Heather makes food on site, which the portions are massive. And really great value for money also. Heather and Steve couldn't be more accommodating, They are a great working team and are genuinely concerned that you have a good stay with them. We as others did had some midge problems, but in the end we won. And it didn't spoil our weeks holiday.
If you are considering staying at this site don't hesitate to book, its brilliant. Take your camera as the scenery is just breathtaking.

This is a great camp-site. I have just returned after a week-end there and I have booked up for 10 days in September as it was so good there. There are about six electric hook ups, very clean toilet block and the wardens are very helpful and friendly.
The midges are a problem at times as the site is next to a river, so take some repellent. There is a pub in the village which is only 600 yards away and it is worth a visit as well as the Tan Hill Inn which is 4 miles away. All the roads in the area are very narrow at some places so if your towing a caravan take care.

I stayed at this campsite this the summer while doing the coast to coast. Its one the only campsites on stayed at on route other nights being wild camping.
I am glad I stopped to stay at this campsite its a nice location. The campsite owner was very welcoming and said pay when your ready I like this it shows trust total respect.
There is toilets, showers, washing and drying machines, shelter if windy, little food and drinks shop on site run by the campsite owner.
The campsite was £4 a night I think which is very good value and being the half way pint on the coast to coast and first campsite I stopped at n route it was a right treat with my saw wet feet :)
If I ever do the coast to coast or any the hikes that go past keld I stop here again for sure.
There was no WIFI or internet access when I was there but think there was some signal on some the mobile networks.
