What a little gem we stumbled upon. Fantastic campsite, and with hook-up £13 pn. We stayed for 2 nights and couldn't resist Heather's Beef curry and pitta on the first night and Beef stew and baguette the second night, £5 each, and a huge bowl full of food. Saved us cooking after our walking.

Lovely walks around if not doing coast to coast, we walked round Kisdon (Corpse Path). Would definitely return. The cats, chickens and ducks are so comical to watch. Heather and Steve were so accommodating and helpful, wished we could have stayed longer.

My husband is a photographer and he couldn't get enough of the beautiful area, the river Swale and waterfall runs just alongside the campsite (hence the midges.)

We will return.

This is an excellent little site.

- The owners are very friendly

- It's in a stunning location

- They do food, and are licensed to sell alcohol

- The toilets/shower are kept clean

- It's cheap (£5 per adult, £3 per child)

I will definitely be returning soon!

Oh, and a little tip - take some rock pegs! The pitch I was on was quite rocky a couple of inches down.

Great little site in a wonderful location. The owners made us welcome and the facilities were surprisingly good for such a small place. The shower room was heated and if the weather turned they have a barn you can use. The Tan Hill Inn is just up the road for a nice pint and a roaring fire. The road to Hawes has pretty amazing views and there is a nice walk round Keld and Muker.

I am a bit torn on the review to give this campsite - on one hand I want to tell everyone how great it is, on the other I want to keep it for ourselves!

A really good location, perfect for walking. We took our 2 dogs, one of whom has never been camping, or to the countryside before, so we were a bit nervous about how she might behave. The owner (Heather I believe) was really nice and friendly and assured us not a problem to have the dogs there.

Nice and flat pitch, yes there are only 2 WCs, but we never had to wait to use them. Washing up sink provided and plenty of water points.

Home-made picnic benches are distributed around the site for your use, and home-cooked evening meals and breakfasts are available too from the main house. We didn't really have any problems with midges but did use insect repellant just in case and went to the pub as it started dropping dark.

Keld Lodge is half a mile down the road, which is also very friendly, which served food as well as beer!

Great campsite and nice that the owners are upfront about it being a site for walkers and ask that you don't make any noise after 11pm - which suited us down to the ground.

Very very friendly owner who made us feel so welcome, so thank you! Bargain!

Great little site. Beautiful setting and very friendly, helpful owners. The collie dog, chickens and ducks are all amusing. My veggie chap had a stunning breakfast egg buttie and I had an equally great bacon one. The nearby Keld Lodge welcomed us and our dogs and D said the beer was very good. I would strongly recommend this site if you want good walking, wonderful scenery, peace and quiet. Also ideally situated for Coast to Coast walkers.

On arrival we greeted by the friendly owners and shown where to put our tent, unfortunately we were squeezed in between a tent and the house which is also the bunkhouse and the toilet and the only shower! When settled we decided to get some food but we were a little too late as they stop doing food at 7:30pm but she very kindly sorted some food out for us. The midges unfortunately enjoyed the food as much as us, they are unbearable! The second day we had a bbq and few glasses of wine and then moved inside the tent to escape the midges, a couple of glasses later and both children and our dog were asleep! The following morning we were told by the owners that they like this site silent after 11 and that she did realise that we were only talking and no loud or rowdy behaviour had taken place but they want their guests in bed and asleep by 11pm!

I stayed at the Keld Bunkhouse on June 4th,2009 while walking the Coast to Coast trail. The bunkhouse was conveniently located on the trail and a welcomed stopping point from Kirby Stephen. The accommodations were well above average in terms of cleanliness and comfort. In a word 'fantastic' is how I would describe the bunkhouse. At a fraction of the cost of a B&B it was superior to most I stayed at. It was quiet and peaceful (However, I was fortunate enough to have a room of my own). The evening meal of curried beef was not only delicious and filling, but also a bargain! The washroom and shower facilities were pleasant and clean and also above average in my experience. The hostess had prepared for me a packed lunch and left it in the fridge for me sometime in the evening so that I may get a requested early start the next day. The lunch was awesome! Best sandwiches and homemade dessert I had the entire time I was in the UK.

All-in-all.A great place to stay, great food, super friendly hosts (and a great Border Collie to play fetch with if your so inclined) All this at half of what you would pay elsewhere.I highly recommend staying here!

A great small camping/caravan site, set by the side of the river Swale and run by an extremely friendly and helpful couple. Ideally suited for those wishing to indulge in walking and/or cycling, or as an excellent night stop for Coast to Coast walkers.

It offers excellent bunk house facilities, which can take up to 9 people. There are three dormitory rooms; 1 x 3 bunks, 1 x 4 bunks and 1 x double bed with en suite. The two bunk rooms share a shower/wc, and all share kitchen facilities plus small drying room.

Although there are TVs in the bunk house, we were unable to get any signal during our stay there. Radio and mobile phone reception is also a bit 'iffy'.

The lady of the house (Heather) can also provide if required, evening meals, packed lunches, snacks etc. At very moderate prices.

The facilities for caravans and tents is limited, 1 x shower and 2 x WCs. 6 electric hookups for caravans and/or tents have recently been installed. There are numerous picnic benches where you can sit outside for your meals. For tent campers there is a barn where you can escape from the midges, eat your meals if wet or just sit and shoot the breeze with the other campers.

Tan Hill Inn (the highest pub in Britain) where you can dine or just go for a drink is 4 miles away, and half a mile away is Keld Lodge which is also recommended for meals or a drink.

Overall a nice quiet site where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Our family of two adults and four children, ranging from 2-9 years, came here over the may day bank holiday. We had booked to come on Friday evening but in the end work commitments meant it would have been too late to put the tent up and get the kids fed etc, so we rang on the day and were told that it was fine to come a day later.

The site is lovely and quiet, which was just what we wanted. Even though our children were the only ones there, they were made to feel very welcome by the owners and other campers. There are no 'facilities' for children but there is a nice grass area for them to play on and the river is right behind the site as well. This was fine for our children. The barn is a really good idea and the children used it to play in and we used it to cook when the weather was inclement. The toilet and shower facilities were fine, there was always hot water and they were clean.

There are some lovely walks around the area and it is very beautiful. We walked into Keld and back which was lovely. The waterfalls are also pretty and abundant in this area.

The owners are now doing food, which is a great idea. I caught my husband eyeing it up whilst desperately trying to stop our barbecue from being blown out! We would definitely try some next time.

The only negative point was the weather - it was windy, raining and freezing, especially at night, this was just unlucky for us. The owner gave us some extra sleeping bags for the children as it had reportedly got down to 2 degrees at night! This was very helpful and thoughtful.

All in all, this is a lovely, well run, quiet campsite in beautiful countryside. I returned home feeling I had really got away from everything, which was just what I wanted!

Just back from our first camping weekend and what a great choice! The site is perfect if you want a 'get away from it all' holiday with lots of stunning scenery and walks. Keld Lodge is only a short walk away for great meals and drinks and friendly company.

The site itself is right by the river, has a piping hot shower and a couple of toilets. There is a washing up sink with plenty of hot water and a barn to eat / drink in during bad weather.
The new owners are so friendly and helpful and nothing seems too much trouble. It's a very laid back friendly atmosphere and very peaceful. We'll definitely be back some day!
