Nice quiet site with good views over surrounding countryside. Communication via email up to our arrival was excellent and the owners provided detailed routes to avoid the road closure. The pitches are not level so blocks may be a good idea. The grass was very long when we stayed - it may benefit from a cut if possible. Toilets are of the luxury festival type - very clean and tidy with plenty of supplies available. We didn't use the showers this time. Washing up area is in a shed and hot water is plentiful and there is sufficient space. Information board is useful too. The site was not full when we stayed - there were 4 other units. Owners live off site - they came to collect the money in the early evening. Visited the New Forest Inn at Emery Down - a good 20 minute walk away, and the Trusty Servant at Minstead - which would be about a 45 minute walk, although we cycled to this one. Both lovely friendly country pubs in stunning countryside. Would like to have eaten in one of them as the food looked amazing. Recommend the site if you like cycling or walking, or just sitting and admiring the view, listening to the birds, sheep and lambs.

We stayed here after spending 7 nights on the touring part of a Parkdean site as we were looking for peace and quiet in the New Forest. We certainly found that. This site is quite basic in facilities - but that suited us perfectly. There is only one portakabin containing two small toilet cubicles and one shared basin for the ladies. Not very private for washing or brushing teeth but it sufficed. Washing up facilities are in a shed - adequate enough and the water tap was half way down the field. The showers are located next to the toilets, in a shed type building but are adequate although the shower heads could have done with unblocking. The site is long and narrow and when we arrived (just after noon) there was no choice of where to pitch as we had booked EHU so we had to pitch in the corner furthest away from the facilities. The site is not particularly level and it does have wooden poles carrying power cables running through it.
The site is peaceful and in a great, central location for exploring the New Forest. Most people kept to the rules of silence between 11pm and 7am - all that is except the sheep in the adjacent field who became extremely loud around 3am - shame they couldn't adhere to the rules too!
Atmosphere was relaxed and campers were friendly. Owner came to collect our rent on our 4th night!
Would definitely stay here again but would bear in mind the broken nights of sleep!

Yet again a lovely stay at Minstead.
Small, basic site but with more hook ups this year. Is it basic, well yes it is but the showers, toilets and washing up area are all kept very clean and the guy who owns the place is a really nice chap.
The grass could do with cutting more often but when you weigh this up against the beautiful location, peaceful setting, owls a hooting at night and the horses galloping around in the next field it really does put things into perspective.
If you want a quiet getaway in an idyllic setting with lots of outstanding scenery just a walk away go to Minstead.
It was our second visit, cant wait for our third!

We have just returned from a 3 night stay in our Dandy.
We were emailed detailed instructions when we booked.
The site is so peaceful we woke to birdsong and went to sleep to hooting owls! The toilets and showers, although fairly basic, were really clean. An additional sink and some hooks would be useful. Yesterday morning we walked from the site into Minstead -about 30minutes - nice teashop. Will definitely return and recommend.

Our third brilliant stay at Emery Down, this time in a tent. It was August Bank Holiday so when we arrived on Friday night it was packed. We had booked a hook up but due to people taking up too much space across the hook up area there were none left. The owner came to collect our money but popped off to get us an extension lead so we could have our hook up.
There is a great camping shop at nearby Lyndhurst and a good local cycle is from the local Oak pub (go to the left of the pub). The local New Forest Inn is really nice for food (I don't think it's expensive but I'm from Surrey!).
This site is one of the few in the New Forest that has facilities and electric so is great value if you like a quiet site. The people who stay are generally the ones who respect the site and each other (no late nights or early mornings - I even heard one chap tell off his child for talking too loudly at 8. 30am).
As other reviewers have mentioned, if you like peace and no frills it's great - the facilities are always adequate and always clean.

Just come back from a 6 night stay.
This site is what camping is all about. No airs or graces, just simple pitches, good basic facilities that are regularly cleaned and looked after.
Yes, the grass could be shorter and the pitches level, but, who cares?
If you want a site that has great views, plenty of space for kids to be kids and play safely, loads of space to camp and not feel as if everyone is on top of each other like the site across the road. This is it. All for £16 per night! If you want glamping go elsewhere.
The numerous hooting owls, mewing buzzards and other local wildlife come free.

Basic site, could be improved by cutting grass & stinging nettles down lane and gate. Also if they would tell you were you can walk from site, also what to do when you arrive.
Very quiet site, great views, toilet, showers kept clean. Owner very friendly. In middle of New Forest. Moors Valley 20 minutes away, Verwood, Ringwood close by. Southhampton 20 minutes approx, really is in the country.

Booked this Friday afternoon last minute for a 2 night break. Was not given specific instructions on what to do when we arrived and there was no obvious area with instructions on what to do on arrival.
If it wasn't for a lady tending to her horses who told us what to do we would probably have left. The format is you pick any pitch that's free and later on in the evening the owner comes along to check your C&CC and note down your registration and collect your pitch fee.
So glad we didn't leave as this was a lovely peaceful relaxed site. Toilets and showers basic but clean and functional, good recycling and a designated dog poo bin.
Grass a bit long and the ground uneven but after all it is camping! There is an information shed with a freezer, I would have liked to have seen some printed maps for local walks.
Will definitely return and hopefully for 3 or 4 nights as it is so quite.

We stayed for 5 nights on the wettest few days of the month so far, site got quite muddy & waterlogged at the bottom of the slope where the toilet/showers are, but due to days of very heavy rain, you cant blame the owner.
Lovely site though, grass does need cutting more often, facilities are in sheds but good enough and are cleaned regularly, searched high & low for sites in the new forest and most was in the £30 plus price range per night, this one was £16 with ehu and awning.
Nicely located 5 min drive from lyndhurst, new forest inn down the road is ultra expensive, go another few hundred yards to the swan, nice real ales and excellent food much cheaper than new forest inn.
Will use this site again, the view is beautiful, but for the new forest, the price is better. And, they do insist on seeing your c&cc membership card, all cs sites should ask too.

If you want a site with all mod cons, hustle and bustle, entertainment. Don't come here! If you want peace, tranquillity, space, lovely views, like minded fellow campers, this site is perfect!
We spent 6 nights here and would have stayed extra if they hadn't been fully booked and it was easy to see why.
Yes, the site is basic, toilets, showers, washing up area, freezer for use but the facilities are cleaned on a daily basis and perfectly adequate for our needs.
There is a lovely field with private fishing lake adjacent to the site for dog walking, plenty of lovely walks within a short drive, the New Forest Inn just a mile away which serves great food and ales.
The owner visited us for the rent on our first evening and we saw her only once more during our stay which suited us perfectly as we knew we could call should we have any issues.
We shall definitely recommend this site to our friends visiting the area.
