An absolutely excellent site. We stayed only one night as a stopover but were given a very warm welcome and a huge pitch. The setting is delightful, the shower room is spacious and the toilet/shower cabin includes a large selection of information on local attractions.
We walked the 1. 5 miles to The Sorrel Horse pub in Shottisham where they serve good beer and excellent food. Cost was a very reasonable £17 with electric and our only regret was that we could only stop for one night on our journey !

Just had a fantastic 10 days at this lovely campsite which was exactly as described by the previous reviewer. Everyone was very friendly, it was extremely peaceful and the facilities are kept very clean and tidy. If you don't have to worry about taking the kids on holiday but you're undecided about whether to book or not - just do it! You can choose to camp in 1 of three open areas or, if you want lots of shade like we did, you can walk a few meters from the car to pitch under the silver birch trees. It's an easy cycle to the beach at Shingle Street; less than 10 minutes by car to Sutton Hoo (National Trust); and the pub in the village has free WIFI which is very fast. There's a well-stocked local shop with pain au chocolate on the weekend; a meal and a pint for a fiver each at the pub in Snottisham; within 10 minutes cycle in another direction is year another local pub that serves delicious Indian food: you can't ask for much better!
Many thanks to S&G for a great welcome, as well as the tasty eggs and courgettes! We hope to be back next year!

This is one of those sites that you don't really want to tell people about and keep it for yourself.
This small campsite is divided into little sections with plenty of trees and greenery, adjacent to the owners' delightful home and fabulous garden. I came home inspired.
We had amazingly good weather which added to the idyllic location but even in not so unusual weather this site is a gem. The facilities (two loos, one with the shower in it) are housed in a little wooden cabin and were always very clean, thanks to the owners and the respect shown by other campers. Outside, there are recycling bins, the chemical loo disposal point, and a sink with hot water for a little washing up (not under cover). Out the front, there is a welcome bench should you need to wait for the shower but no hardship in such a lovely setting.
All EHU pitches receive a good amount of sunshine (if available); the tent (non-EHU) pitches are less open within a little copse.
The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful and accommodated our late request for an extra night which was much much appreciated.
Lots of walks and cycling to be done, plus sea swimming for the hardly, a lovely pub in walking distance, more boats than Howard's Way and good food/beer locally too. A superb mini escape from reality. Thank you.
Ssssssh, don't tell anyone.

Superb. As said by many this is a little paradise. Great location for seeing Woodford and snape maltings etc. The sorrel horse pub down the road is excellent. We will be back as soon as poss. The food in area is some of the best in uk and this site you will be privileged to share the owners garden. The shower and toilet are in a nice little cabin with recycling bins to rear and a sink prep area for campers and waste disposal. Fresh eggs and some fruit and veg can be bought for very small money. The entrance on lodge road is quite narrow and easy to miss, if you see the red post box you just gone past. Oh yes the shower is 50p for 15 mins and as others have said 2 showers or one very long one for your money. The site is on grass a little uneven but no problem plenty of space as well and lots of privacy we thoroughly recommend.

What a lovely site run by the equally lovely Sandy and Graham. We had the smallest van on the largest pitch! Only two vans in 'our garden', three squeezed in a little more tightly the other side of the shower block. A large portacabin housed the shower, washbasin and two toilets. Both the washing up sink and chemical disposal point were behind the cabin. 50p for a 15 minute shower large enough for both of us costing us a mere £ 2. 50 extra over 5 nights. Plenty of info about the area in the cabin as well as books, guests could borrow or swap. Peaceful most of the time, apart from the odd tractor in the fields next door spraying crops. We didn't hear the chickens from our pitch but I can't say for those next to the hens. My only criticism is that for hygiene reasons I really do not think that the chemical disposal point should be right next to the washing up facility! A minor point which does not deter us from returning. Our favourite site of the holiday.

What a little Gem. Great private location, well kept, clean toilet and shower block and some nice quiet roads and footpaths for nice long walks.
We will definitely be heading back here and next time take our bikes.
The toilet block was always clean, £0. 50p for the shower but worth it for a nice clean area and plenty of hot water. When we arrived we were shown around and then left alone which was perfect for us.
The pitches were kept really well. Every space felt nice and private in-between trees and perfectly selected naturally grown areas.
Perfect for a quiet, relaxing weekend away. A couple of decent pubs within a 20 min walk too.

We don’t really have much more to add to the other site reviewers apart from to reinforce what a super CS this is. A laid back and welcoming atmosphere from Graham & Sandie, who were normally on hand to answer any questions and to offer advice.
We were here for 5 nights in mid August 2012 and we finally got some hot & sunny weather. There were plenty of walks available heading into the Sandlings & Rendlesham Forest area, starting about 200 yards along the road [at the corner].
We also headed cross country to the River Debden where the footpath runs along the estuary with a stopping off point at The Ramsholt Arms [not the most “looked after” real ales in the world but the menu looked appetizing].
However, the “star” of the trip was The Sorrel Horse Inn at Shottisham, which is a community pub, bought by the villagers in 2011 and appears to be thriving. They have “specials” nights and Tuesday is “Sausage & Mash + a pint” for £5. Needless to say Tuesdays are busy! Super range of local well kept real ales too. Long may their enterprise continue. We supported it as best we could [like visiting four of the five days we were there]!
There are still a lot of walks that we would like to do, especially down to Shingle Street, but we just didn’t have time.
I’m sure that we will return at some point in the future.

Stayed at Bailiffs Cottage for three nights, what a brilliant site. Very quiet. At least three different areas, one for tents the others for caravans and motorhomes and yet only 5 pitches, loads of space.
Toilet and shower facilities are first class and plenty of very hot water for the shower, 50p in the meter, very large shower so room for two if you need to save money !
Hosts were really nice and were always busy tending the gardens, chickens etc. We had the 'red peg to the chicken pitch' which was absolutely great, I kept my eye on the chickens just in case they were up to something (Chicken Run !) and fed them scraps which was allowed. No cockerell; so no noise from chickens.
Only drawback was for motorhome users who don't move their unit during stays, quite a long walk to nearest village, small shop but not on any bus routes so we were not able to visit the nearby coast/harbour which was a shame. Good enough reason to stay at the motorhome and laze about, weather was great so a good time was had by all.

Very friendly and welcoming owners, especially as we had arrived rather late (breakdown on the way). Excellent facilities, well maintained and attractively set out in a continental style cabin.
Pleasant site with plenty of room and nothing to disturb the peace and quiet. Beautiful gravel garden a la Beth Chatto beside Bailiff's cottage which is nearby.
Plants and produce for sale. Excellent location for both country and coast. Will return.

This is a terrific site which seems to have exactly what's needed for an enjoyable stay. It's calibre is obvious as soon as you enter the site - everything ship-shape and Bristol fashion. We were met by Sandy, one half of the friendly and helpful duo who run the site, and given a choice of two pitches - ours was the one next to the ablutions block but at no time was the proximity a problem. Peace and quiet is the prevailing feel here.
The shower and two loos (both spotless at all times) are housed in a portacabin where you will also find masses of local information, pubs, restaurants, days out, etc. And a small 'lending library' should you run out of reading matter during your stay. The shower runs on a 50p for 15 minutes metre and supplies lashings of hot water. The portacabin is clean and tidy and not the grim, spider-ridden box some can be.
The site itself is flat and neatly mown and backs onto a field, and the nearby road isn't busy so there is very little in the way of road noise. In fact, the surrounding area is predominantly agricultural with a fair few woodland areas in which to walk. Traffic is light. The sea is not far from the site, and enigmatic reed beds and tidal inlets abound.
We ate out at The Shepherd and Dog - nice ordinary pub with interesting selection of real ales and good value pub food, not trying to be a gastro pub so a refreshing change. It also had more than one vegetarian so-called 'choice' so that was a bonus.
All in all, the site was clean and cared-for, small and adult only - perfect!
