Stayed one night when visiting area on personal business and would definitely stay again.
An archetypal English pub, by a canal with longboats, with a warm welcome on a wet and windy night. Arrived at 6. 30, lots of drinkers on their way home, roaring log fire. Had excellent bar meal and a couple of glasses good house wine for a very reasonable price. I don't normally enjoy sitting in a pub on my own, but here I had a very enjoyable couple of hours reading the paper and having a chat.
I was in campervan and self-contained so cannot speak for facilities, but there were perhaps 8 rigs on the field plus me in the carpark (my choice, the weather was dreadful) so it seems lots of other people like the place.
I'll be back.

I made this booking at the last minute, just 24hrs before we were due to arrive and was most impressed by the help attitude from the owner Jez.
On arrival he made us very welcome and pointed out all the facilities. Although the toilet and shower were basic they were kept exceptionally clean. The children's playground provided an excellent range of equipment.
The food at the pub was excellent value and superbly cooked on the premises. I look forward to returning next year and meeting Jez and Debbie again.

We've stayed at this site a number of times and really enjoy it. It's a nice friendly site next to the canal which is great for walking the dog.
Unless things have changed, when the Pub id closed there is only 1 Toilet and 1 Shower and you’ll need a torch at night time. However that doesn’t bother us nor have I heard any other complaints, it all adds to ‘life’s rich tapestry’ !
Sunday lunch is great before you leave, even if it does mean you're a little later getting home from a weekend!
However a quick update, the Pub has now changed hands and if their other Pub / Site is anything to go by, things can only improve.

We really enjoyed our 2 day stay on this site. The people are really friendly and the pub food is delicious.
There is only 1 toilet and 1 shower which didn't drain too well and the waste and chemical waste is not very well situated as you have to pass people in the beer garden to get to the disposal point, but this can be overcome by emptying before the pub opens.
A 10 min journey into Measham where there are plenty shops and take aways, nice walk along the canal where a variety of boats are moored.
Overall this site is quiet and friendly with a bonus of a pub will stay again soon.

This was our second visit to this site.
The good bits:
Quite site despite being at the back of a pub
Very friendly and helpful owners
Site was lovely and not too crowded
Nice pub and food
Good walks nearby especially down by the canal
Campers and caravans welcome
Areas for improvement
There is only one toilet, no light and no hand basin - needs to be updated!
One shower which on our first visit was accessed by key which meant waiting around for the key to be returned to the bar. On the second visit after some confusion over the whereabouts of the key we found the shower open and it remained open all weekend, which made things a lot easier. Having said that the shower is very good with plenty of hot water again a bit of updating wouldn't go a miss.
Overall we really enjoyed this site, and with a few minor alterations this site would get 9/10.

What a lovely little campsite. The owners were wonderfully friendly and helpful. The site is located in the picturesque village near the canal which is perfect for walking. The site was exceptional value for money at only £11.00 per unit per night including electric hookup.
The food in the pub was fabulous and good value for money.
The only downside to the site is the single toilet and shower, although this was not too much of a problem as there were mainly caravans and motorhomes.
We would highly recommend this wonderful site, It won't be long before we return.

Wanted a site near home so we could put up our new tent - a site behind a pub was a bonus (no need to take beer or food!).
It is a real gem - the owner are really nice and didn't mind a Hubby and mate being on motorbikes either. The site is clean and tidy. The one toilet was kept clean but didn't see the shower as I presumed you needed a key and we didn't have one. Large play area which is the pubs so there's something to do for the kids. Ashby Canal is right by the pub which looks a lovely walk. Nothing much else in Snarestone - no little shop - so take essentials with you or go into Measham.
However, the crusty cobs at the pub are really nice - and the food is excellent - I have never enjoyed a sunday lunch as much as the one they cooked - huge dinner - something you mom would of cooked!
We have already said we will be back next year for a short break. Do Book as I believe they get busy !

Just returned from our visit here, we only stopped 2 nights as we were only taking the boys to Thomas Land.
The site owners were very friendly and keep a nice tidy site. The kids play area is enough to keep small children amused for several hours and with only one entrance/exit, you don't have to watch them too closely.
The site facilities are very basic BUT are kept clean. For the shower you have to leave a deposit for the key so you can only use it when someone is around, and the toilet could use a light for night use.
If you want a site with all the bells and whistles don't stop here, but if you want a friendly, quiet place to stop then highly recommended.
The pub can be very busy at weekends as there is the canal next door and the boat users use it too, but we didn't have any complaint as there was no noticeable noise.
The food served was very nice and reasonably priced, real ale on tap and again prices reasonable. Dont turn up on a Monday evening though expecting to get a hot meal as kitchen is closed.
There are several shops around 10 minutes away in Measham and Drayton Manor inc Thomas Land about 30-45 mins away. Close to hand there is also the Battle train line preserved railway and a battle site to visit plus several hours walk alongside the ashby canal.
All in all, will definitely be looking to stop here again when we take the boys to Thomas Land again

Great little site in a beautiful and picturesque village, you should see the thatched house on the main street, stunning!
The field is set behind the pub (proper local with good typical pub grub for which you get a lot for your money so no need for a starter!) and is alongside the canal. We chose May Bank Holiday to try here for the first time, and admittedly, there were quite a few caravans with slightly rowdy families but I think that might have had something to do with the beer from the pub!
We were lucky and didn't require electric hook up so were able to pitch anywhere. We chose to be right down at the bottom of the field (past the remains of the village bonfire and close to the dog walk) but it was ok, as we were happy to be in the quiet bit (you hear a lot through a tent!). You will need earplugs for the dawn chorus as it's set close to the woods and also near the flight path for east midlands airport but it's bearable. I'm sure there must have been an outside tap for water but we'd taken our own water container already full so didn't need to refill.
Lovley walks along the Ashby Canal, lots of nice narrowboats to admire. The canal will take you 7 miles into Shackerstone, where they have the Battlefield Railway Musuem, worth a visit.
Definitely recommended if you don't mind roughing it and the pitch was only £7.50pn

Fantastic weekend, all together in our group there was 4 tents, 3 caravans & 1 motorhome. What a great weekend we had, Got soaked on friday when we arrived but were let into pub with dog to warm up in front of log fire. Walks along the canal with the dogs are great, food in pub is wonderful, even the cheese n onion cobs are great We were first to use new shower room and it was blissfully hot, going back for whit weekend as we were made to feel so welcome. Well worth a visit.
