A lovely site, we booked for 7 nights & stayed 18.
The site facilities were kept very clean with loads of hot water. The owners & staff were friendly & helpful(thanks John for WI FI lessons)The area has lots to do especially if you like walking but if not plenty of places to visit, Chateau Chenonceax just a few minutes away. We used the bar but not restaurant although others said how good food was. Even in September there was something of interest put on once or twice a week.
Does have mainly British campers but in low season that's to be expected.
In all must be one of the better sites we have stayed on in France over last 25 years.

Very pleasant two week stay at Le Moulin Fort. Riverside pitch meant we had a large pitch facing the river rather than looking at all the other pitches. Facilities excellent but you have to be careful when showering or washing up as the hot water sometimes runs out. Sanitation block very clean at all times and the push button showers run for a reasonable amount of time. Restaurant we used twice, the day we arrived and the night before we left. Second time not as good as the first. Pizza base and crust rock hard. Good WiFi, laundry facilities ok but not enough of them.
Noise from the goods trains is not really a problem but you can hear them from a long way off and a long time afterwards in the still of the night. The frog chorus too got very loud at times but in all honesty was not a problem. Lots of citronella and mozzie repellant if you're sitting out in the evening, I needed help from the Pharmacie as I developed a reaction to the darn things whilst my wife didn't get bitten once.
There is plenty to see and do in the area, lots of chateaux and pretty villages close by. Plenty of shopping a short drive away. A 15 minute walk takes you to Chenonceau along the riverbank while a similar length walk into the village reveals a pretty little hamlet with places to eat. Reception very helpful in arranging an appointment with the local Vet to get our dog checked over prior to returning home, a very relaxing holiday overall, we thoroughly recommend this site as one we will return to in the future.

Fistly, we had superb weather for our 2 week stay here but regardless my review would have been the same. We've caravanned for 30 odd years and our children always had caravan holidays, nowadays with just the 2 of us we look for quieter sites to suit our needs. Le Moulin Fort is a super site and certainly fitted the bill, it's in a super location, toilet blocks always clean and tidy, site maintenance is very good and so many obvious signs of new plantings. The typical French white gravelled roads are well maintained and the layout of the site is well planned and atractive. The reception and bar are housed in a fantastic old mill house, a real French feel about it.
Most of the regular staff are Brits, including the owners, at least 3 live on site in their own caravans/motor homes. The friendliness of the staff was fantastic, for instance the electric is only 6 amp and it is easy to trip but just approach somebody and they'll reset it straight away.
There is some noise from passing trains (across the river) but it really isn't an issue. Le Cher runs the length of the site and has excellent cycling/walking alongside. A 10 minute ride is rewarded with a fantastic view of the Chateau at Chenonceaux. If you'd rather see it by air you can book a light plane ride or a hot air balloon ride, the ballons frequently fly overhead and look quite spectacular.
In high season there is a small shop open on site, however the nearest large supermarket is only a 10 minute drive, nearer still is a small Spar type shop in Francueil itself, this is well stocked and includes a butchery counter.
Worth catching a train into Tour and enjoying a leisurely stroll around the old quarter which has heaps of bars/restaurants.
Granted the pool is deep but it's been the same depth since it was built! I didn't find it too cold. However mostly I swam in the river which was fantastic if you're confident/competent but not suitable for children or non swimmers. There is a riverside beach about 20 minutes away.
I've never been on such a friendly site in France, staff and campers alike! On the last day I spent most of it shaking hands and saying cheerio!
One nice touch was that we ate in the bar one night, it's smaller than others and some people sat with complete strangers but this really added to a cosy atmosphere as did the fact that the owners sat amongst us with their young family and had their evening meal with us as well.
Would I go back? What do you think?!

We stopped over at Le Moulin Fort on our way to and from the Dordogne. We visited in 2011 and decided to return, and we were not disappointed. The surroundings are lovely, the pitches of good size and the sanitary facilities always clean. Many people return here year after year and it is not hard to see why. Of course it all depends on your requirements: as an older couple without children we have different needs to those of a young family. However we appreciate the peace and quiet, and felt very at home here. We shall probably be back next year, the only thing stopping us will be if we go to Eastern France!

Spent six nights on this fabulous campsite. Very peaceful, beautiful setting and with easy access to all the Loire has to offer. We found the owners and staff very welcoming and helpful. This campsite has a very balanced approach to people with or without children. Good facilities for the little ones but not encroaching on those who are looking for tranquillity without having to share other peoples children. Spot on!
The shower and toilet facilities were always clean. Water points near to units is so helpful. A special mention to the hard work put into keeping the site well manicured and tidy. This is definitely a place to stay and one that I will not hesitate in staying at again. Well done.

We spent 4 nights here-what a lovely place! We were right at the end of the site near the bridge over the Cher, where there's no electricity so mostly tents. The ground is very sandy so a small problem with pegs pulling out, but not too much of an issue. Our site was as good as it gets-right on the bank of the river (near a barbeque pit as it happens). Shower blocks very clean and modern, and staff very friendly-cant fault the place. Not much in the way of shops in the villages nearby but a few supermarkets within an easy drive. We will no doubt be back-this is what a big professional site should be like. Good for kids too-everyone is very conscious that they are running around and on their bikes, so very safe for them.

As with previous reviews this is a great location and the cycle rides to Montrichard and Chenonceau were fantastic. The owners have made a cracking job of renovating the site and you can not fault the facilities.
Toilet paper on the outside! well that is a plus as many French sites do not supply any. Water was available close to the pitch and there was a dedicated Motorhome service point which is definitely a plus.
I did request a river pitch but there were none available which was the luck of the draw but they gave me a pitch close to the river. The site was surprisingly busy for September which was obviously good news for the owners.
I found the reception and the leaving cool and no blaming the staff because it was the owners. The failure to give a greeting when you arrive or a thank you for your visit, basics which are sadly missing in too many sites.
Also I can not put my finger on it but there was a feeling that there were too many rules. Have they had problems before? The notice offering to recommend alternative sites I thought was unnecessary. Perhaps it is because I have a preference for the municipal sites.
Would I recommend the site for a visit - yes, would I go back, probably not.

Pitches are a good size but close together. Higher number pitches have a better view of the river but lower number pitches are closer to the pool and bar area. The higher numbered pitches are closer to the bridge and may suffer a litter with traffic noise, but the road is only a minor one. Two shower blocks each with male/female sections and baby changing cubicle which has a hand held shower, very useful for very little ones. Showers are always clean and hot but the shower heads could do with a de-scale as the water goes in every direction except down! No toilet roll in the cubicles that has to be collected as you walk in through the main door. A bit of a surprise the first time you go! This is very much a family site and children and not for families who want their children to ‘run free’. Staff will reprimand any behaviour they feel in inappropriate, I saw two occasions of this, which was, to be honest, totally justified. There is an adventure play area for the children with a giant chess set along with a crazy gold course. There is a small shop on site but this has limited opening times and very limited stock and no credit card facility. This is a quiet campsite, but a nice campsite. We used it as a 3 night stopover for our trip to the South West. I highly recommend this campsite.

We had a generally ok time here with our 3 children aged 11, 9 and 7. We had a pretty good pitch right on the river bank and found the site clean and generally pretty well run by the UK owners and staff. The river itself is pretty nice with a few boats passing and the site is well placed for visiting chateaux etc.
The majority of other users were caravans and motor homes from the UK - some even flying the cross of St George flag. It is not really very child friendly unless your kids are under 5. There is a play area that is a bit out of the way and includes a crazy golf course that they charge an extra 2 Euros for per child. Indeed all extras cost. Wifi access and putting a cool box block in their freezer etc etc. There is no football pitch or space for communal games

To find site:- Exit A85 at either Junction 11 or 12, depending of direction of approach, onto D976. Take exit at roundabout signed for Chisseaux/Chenonceaux, following campsite signs. Turn right immediately before bridge to campsite.
Camping Le Moulin Fort has a lovely situation on the River Cher not very far from the famous Chateau at Chenonceaux. The site has English owners and seems to have a predominantly English/Dutch clientele. If you arrive when Reception is closed you are invited select a pitch and book in later, there is a map showing pitches which are already booked. There are 130 pitches all for touring units, there are no mobile homes on site. There is one central road through the site and pitches are set out along this road and in alcoves that branch off this road. Pitches are mainly of a good size to generous but some are narrow at their entrance but widen out. The site is reasonably open but all pitches have some shade from mature trees. Electric points are rated at 6amps and are mainly CEE 17 blue plugs although there are a couple of bollards with the older Continental 2 pin connectors. There are water points close to most pitches although the some of the taps are quite high off the ground which we found a bit awkward for filling water containers. There are two toilet blocks of a good quality with seated toilets, paper is provided but not in the actual cubicles. There are good playground facilities for children. At reception bread can be ordered and there is also a shop area selling essentials. Next to this is a bar, although this has limited opening hours. Outside is a terrace which surrounds the swimming pool. WiFi is available in the bar area at reasonable cost, I found that signal strength varied a bit but generally OK. During the low season the site accepts the ACSI discount card. Date of visit late September 2010.
In terms of places to visit from this campsite you are almost spoilt for choice with many famous chateaux in easy travelling distance. For shopping we discovered a very nice Le Clerc supermarket near the Amboise bypass.
