We stayed here over a very hot and sunny weekend.

The site is generally quite flat and well sheltered and pitches a good size. It is situated behind the pub away from the main road.

The website said there was a new shower block but I couldn't locate it. The only shower and toilet facilities I came across were in a little green hut. The ladies had 2 toilets and 1 shower and the mens (i am told) had 1 loo and 1 shower. The shower in the ladies was good hot and powerful but unfortunately took a long time to drain away which meant standing ankle deep in water. Crocs recommended!

The mens shower was out of order during our visit, so men had no option but to use the ladies shower. There was very little space in the shower to dry and get changed, so I would suggest taking a big towel or bath robe to walk back to your unit in to get dry and changed - or even better use the shower in your van if you have that option.

We could only find one water point and unfortunately it was located in the very same spot as the tap with a hose attached to it which is meant to be used to wash out chemical toilets. The chemical disposal point was also located here right next to the tap. We witnessed several people sending kids to fill aqua rolls etc and the kids using the hosed tap to fill them. We also witnessed a caravanner use the water tap to rinse out his cassette toilet here at the water point too. I know the site cannot be blamed for what other people do but I do think locating the chemical point and only water tap on the same point is nothing short of unhygenic.

I popped to Tesco in Chepstow and used bottled water all weekend after witnessing the above.

There was no washing up point, not a problem for those in caravans but if you are in a tent, make sure you take a bowl to wash up in your tent.

All in all we had a fabulous weekend here thanks to the fantastic weather and friendly bar maid and waitresses in the pub but the site facilities did feel a little unloved. The landlord of the pub/site owner hardly raised a smile to us all weekend and offered no apology for the out of order mens shower.

Stayed here for two nights, the site is quite flat and the two toilets and showers (portacabin) were always clean and never had to wait, but there were only two or three other units on site.

One thing of concern was the water point and the chemical disposal point are VERY close and use the same water supply.

On the plus side the pub was very good and the food reasonably priced, plentiful and tasty, oh and it's very dog friendly.

We took a drive into Lydney and the little harbour is worth a visit for a pleasant wander.

There is a small playground attached to the pub.

Will we visit again maybe.

We chose this site because it was our first time away in our first ever caravan and we didn't want to travel too far. Lovely little site, basic but very clean toilet/ shower block, kids play area and plenty of walks for the dog. It's a small site which I imagine in the summer is very busy but its really well kept and although on a road we didn't hear any traffic. Landlord is a very pleasant man and very easy going. We had an evening meal in the pub which was superb, proper homemade steak and kidney pie! Lady who served us was lovely and kept the kids entertained with ghost stories. Also at £13 a night flat rate with elec hook up we thought it was a bargain! Will be using again.

Needed to find a stopover after dropping off our son in Cardiff. Found this small site behind the Blacksmiths Arms from visiting uk campsite. What a little gem of a site. Tucked away behind the pub, virtually flat field with a few hook-ups and a small but clean and tidy toilet block. We were one of only 2 units on the site, but can imagine it getting quite full during the holiday season. Quite an in-formal site too.

We parked up and hooked-up and had a quick brew before taking the dog for a walk(she stayed free!)As it was Sunday afternoon at the start of September, it was very quiet, one assumes all families were back home.

The charge inc elecs was £13, so a bargain in our eyes.

Have this marked down for future visits.

P. S. The pub food and ale were very good and the prices were reasonable with locally sourced food, well worth the stay.

Delightful small typical pub site. Access a little tight up the side of the pub, through car park to the gated field at the rear. Field flat and level, grass freshly mown. We were the only unit in residence so pitched in the corner of the field nearest to the water and hook up. Toilet block is basic and is a portable unit with just one toilet and one shower each for ladies/gents, rather small and cramped but immaculately clean.

Pub is lovely with a warm welcome and a good reasonably priced menu, can recommend the steak & ale pie! Nice children's playground adjoining pub. Enjoyed watching the rabbits frolicking around the field as well as the multitude of birds. However the main attraction for us is the location, the gateway to the Forest of Dean and the Wye valley.

Near bye attractions include the Dean Forest Steam railway, Tintern Abbey and river trips from Symond's Yat. Will definitely be back as have yet to get on that steam railway, can't wait! Great value at £13 per night including ehu.

Just got back from a brilliant relaxing bank holiday week end.

Owners & pub staff are welcoming/friendly. Very helpful

Had some lovely meals in the pub ended up eating there every day for lunch or dinner.

Being a group of 4 adults & 3 young children (between 5 & 18 months) brought the discount card & saved money too.

Great quiet site.

Toilets showers basic but good. Hot water every time off day & night.

Children loved to play area.

Will def go back asap.

Just had a great weekend here landlord great guy. Pub grub, beer was great too. The toilet block is clean and tidy. Site, well mowed grass. Toilets handy. Small play area for kids. Pub was great, inside everybody very friendly. A credit to its owners. Will be going back soon. Plenty to do locally, tintern abbey, forest railway was great, to name just a few. Go on give it a try you won't be disappointed. Make sure and ring first to get a place

A real pleasure to stop once more on this fabulous site. It only gets better. There is now a new toilet block with toilets and showers immediately adjacent to the pitches. The toilet block is spotlessly clean and at the moment showers are free. We will be definitely returning. Pub still as charming as ever with excellent ales and home cooked food. More improvements are being undertaken and an additional electric hook up has been provided. An ideal site for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley.

Fantastic site, lovely location, great pub - being in the trade you know a good one when you see one - and we sampled it too - great ! Immaculate facilities. A wonderful base to tour the area with all information at hand in the pub. Highly recommended - chat at the bar with the landlord and locals and get all the details of secret lakes and fantastic walks - what more can you ask for. It is very dog friendly too which is always a bonus.
