We booked to stay for 2 nights in our motor home after seeing great reviews, but we found that it was not good for motorhomes. There's a gravel area for 3 vans, we were told exactly where to park, even to move along a few feet when the owner came back. This meant we were not level and were about a metre from the van on each side of us. We could clearly hear the children in the next van all night. During the night our fridge went off, we're not sure if that was because of the slope or if the electric hookup went off during the night.
The site was completely boggy underfoot, wellies definitely required. I could see why it's had good reviews from campers as there are lots of nicely secluded spots for tents, however the paths around were like a marsh. We were shown a path down to the water where the owner told us we could make a fire or fish, when we went down we found a couple of broken metal & plastic chairs, a broken boat, some broken glass and a lifebuoy and wooden stool hanging from a tree for children to swing on overhanging the water. I was not happy for my children to play there.
The black house communal building was quite dark and miserable, the door of the toilet/ shower in there did not lock. There is no toilet waste disposal area, we were told to put it down a toilet in another very dark blackhouse with no light or facility to wash the canister out or even wash hands.
We paid for 2 nights when we arrived but didn't go back for the second. Very disappointed.

Visited but didn't stay. We needed a flat pitch for a 5 by 4 tent. Unfortunately it had been very wet to the point of water logged. This pitches looked slightly sloped and wouldn't have been big enough for the guys on our tent. There was nobody there except a trailer tent and the whole place had rather the after winter feel, needing a little TLC. The yurts looked as though they would be lovely, but access to the camping could be a longish walk for our slightly heavy kit, though barrows were provided. Neither John or Harvery were there and we were helpfully shown round by another chap. The facilities looked fair but the first impression was that it had seen better days. Lots of rather wonderful chickens around and views likely on a good day.
The pitches were private in all sorts of nooks and cranny on the hillside. But beware with younger children - it would be easy to lose sight of them. This site would be more suitable for older kids.
It is now well signed from the main road and from the golden road. There are eating places fairly nearby, but check the opening times. We thought the price was rather high for what was on offer.

Regret that we only stayed for 1 night. Wish it could have been more.
I avoid clichés 'like the plague' but this site is 'quirky' and 'off the wall'. It is also unstructured, unconventional and brilliant.
Nothing is too much trouble for the owner. Go where you like, do what you want. Enjoy yourself as much as possible. Relax.
Only 3 hard standing areas for motorhomes so we were nice and quiet.
Sadly we missed seeing the playful seals in the Loch close by. Now that would have made a great visit even better.

A great site. Certainly not for everyone but we found it ideal. It is relaxed, with great views across the Loch. The 'facilities' closest to the camping area are good while those nearer to the Yutes needs some work. The drive to the site, especially from the South, is comparable to the drive over to Applecross and there are some excellent galleries along the way. If we are in the OH again would want to stay here.

Perfect quiet site, if you don't like commercial sites this is the site for you. Beautiful location. The blackhouse is a really nice feature, and a quirky place to have a shower. Adrian showed us around and gave us lots of info about where to eat and what to see. Also he makes fresh bread for you and gave us lovely fresh eggs for breakfast. We would go back to this site at a drop of a hat.

Stayed here while working in the Western Isles John & Adrian (sorry can`t remember the other guys name lol). Are by far very hard working and pleasant guys, they all make you feel very welcome and you just feel so at home, , the blackhouse is a real gem where you can warm up on a chilly night with a blazing log fire & chat with other guests, , absolute gorgeous scenery & perfect views, was so welcomed I`m coming back in october guys look forward to seeing you all again, , was a pleasure to meet you all

Wonderful quirky site. Has great bohemian facilities, that is not a metaphor for basic either, if you understand the theme of the site then you will enjoy! Very friendly welcome, with full tour of site and facilities by helpful people. The blackhouse communal lounge is good, especially if the antique burner is going. Splendid loch viewpoint with seals lounging on nearby rocks. All facilities worked when we stayed, hook ups for motorhomes, water but no disposal. Tent pitches are shielded with willow and very randomly spaced, two glamping yurts. Interesting road leading to site, but okay to find if you follow instructions.

This is a charming, unique and, as someone has said before, 'quirky' campsite.
We had read reviews prior to our visit to Harris, and decided to give it a whirl and booked ahead for a night's stay.
Having a 7. 4 m long motorhome didn't turn out to be quite the problem that we thought and although yes, it was a little cramped with two other campervans on the hard standing, we were able to manoevre the mh into position.
The welcome was warm and our host took his time to give us a guided tour of the whole site which, on reflection, is like no other campsite we experienced on our Hebridean island - hopping trip, nor anywhere else we have had the pleasure of camping on over the years!
Just loved the blackhouses - inside they contained the basic facilities that most campers would need. The one with the stone based, uneven floor and old photos of the Royal family, one of which was cleverly positioned over 'the throne' clearly demonstrated someone's sense of humour. Just loved the idea, but not very practical though.
The chicken run was tucked away in between some of the pitches and herbs/ vegetables were grown on site. Self sufficiency for the owners. Reminders of the TV series 'The Good Life' flashed in front of me.
The site is in a blissful location and although the drive on the very narrow, twisty road leading to it was a bit hairy for us, it was worthwhile when we got there. Truly escapism from the rat-race.
If you appreciate peaceful campsites with a 'back to nature' feel, marvellous views, superb photo opportunities and in an area of Harris which appears to have its own milder micro-climate then this site definitely fits the bill.

Warm welcome from owners at site in beautiful location. Charming if a little quirky - but in a good way. Owners have clearly given careful thought and attention to the design of their site and its' facilities which is very much in keeping with the natural environment. They should be proud of what they have created!
The space for motorhomes is a little cramped but in terms of turning and parking, but more than made up for by the surroundings and facilities which are full of character and welcoming.

Spent 1 night at this remote site on Harris. We hadn't booked but phoned on the off chance after a recommendation. Received a lovely warm welcome and tour of the site. Communal black house ideal for campers. The toilet and showers are also located in a black house which can be a bit on the chilly side! All adds to the experience though. Site advertises space for 3 motor homes. We were the only one there the night we stayed so plenty of room although as mentioned by other reviewers, I would imagine a bit cramped by the time you have 3. Price probably a bit steep at £20 a night given the facilities, no grey waste or chemical waste point but we came to Harris expecting the lack of these. Electric hook up though and lovely views so can't complain. We would return if on Harris again in the future.
