Having read the reviews we were unsure what this site would be like. Any fears quickly disappeared as soon as we arrived. After parking our van we were given the grand tour of the whole site & the warmth of the welcome could not have been better. The hosts have a real focus on advising campers what they can do, enjoy, and make use of whilst staying at this site, rather than telling you all about the rules - a different approach & actually is well suited to this island oasis. The facilities and site will not be to everyone's taste - thank goodness as they can only accommodate 3 vans & around 12 tents. Location was amazing & during our stay we spotted seals but sadly no otters. We really enjoyed our stay & would recommend to anyone who wants to stay on a site in a beautiful location with welcoming hosts who are working hard to ensure they keep their croft a special place.

We stayed for one night in the delightful yurts. The guys were more than helpful, supplying us with a power lead to run 81 year old grandmas anti-snoring machine! The yurts were so cosy and comfortable with everything we needed supplied. Blackhouse communal areas and bathrooms were clean and tidy. Glamping at its best. Lots of midges this time of year, though, so bring your repellent or better still head nets! Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

Very charming campsite with a guided tour when you arrive. They only take 3 campervans and this gave plenty of room when we were there with 2 other T5s, although manoeuvring may be tricky when 3 large vans are present. We hadn’t booked and were lucky they had a space for us – we stayed 2 nights and would have stayed for one more but they were fully booked on the 3rd night.
Great view of the loch in one direction and mountains in the other from the campervan area. The blackhouse is a sociable place, with comfy sofas and a dining table. There is a sink for washing up in the blackhouse, although it is next to the area where there is a kettle and toaster so the cleanliness is doubtful depending on who has just made their toast! You have to boil the kettle for hot water.
There are only 3 toilets and 3 showers on the site and these are a bit dingy as eco-friendly light bulbs are used and they take ages to warm up. This also makes it hard to see how clean they are. More facilities are needed really as there was often a queue for the loo.
Site is close to the start of the Coffin Path walk, which we made into a 10 mile loop. This is in an amazing area of East Harris and the landscape is like being on the moon, but with more water. Would certainly recommend, but you have to accept that the facilities are a bit rough and ready, however that's part of the charm.

Probably the best place in the world (at least, for me).
The two men running the place are really friendly and helpful. The location is gorgeous, in the middle of nowhere along the stunning east coast of Harris.
We spent the night in one of the yurt - like in a childhood dream ! Very cosy, very homy. There are everything you could possibly need : a gas stove and everything you need to cook, a wood stove and 2 or 3 couch-bed. The view from the yurt is really great, you feel all alone in the world. We even get fresh bread, the best I ever ate here on the isle !
Facilities : 3 blackhouses. One of them is the 'community' house with couch and wood stove. The two others are sanitary with shower and toilets. Clean and nice !

A very pretty site but cramped for tents and particularly camper vans and motor homes. Our vehicles were so close together there was minimal privacy which is a surprise on this isolated island.
The overall experience was disappointing. The shower and toilet facilities were poorly maintained indeed grubby. The showers were very poor with my plug blocked and almost flooding during use. I felt uneasy that the showers and toilet areas were unisex and lacked privacy and space.
I will not return to this site which looks idyllic from outside the site and would rather wild camp than have my experience of Harris spoilt in this way.

I heartily endorse most of the positve comments about this campsite posted here. In the main it's a very pretty site and is in a great spot. However, it's really not very good for motorhomes. The description on UKCampsite.co.uk says space for 3 motorhomes, but when we were there they tried to cram in 4. This left very little space for turning on arrival/exit. The motorhome area is also little more than a large hard standing parking space, at the top of the drive and not pretty at all compared to the rest of the site, and the vans are way too close together - we felt we had next to no privacy.
The toilet facilities are also less than ideal. The showers were fine, but there aren't enough WC's, and they're very dark, compounded by the energy-saving lightbulbs, admirable I'm sure, but when you turn them on you're still sitting almost in darkness for a couple of minutes. No hand towels provided - why not?, this is basic.
The kitchen/blackhouse was good, but you had to boil a kettle to get hot water.
No facilities for grey water or chemical toilet disposal. Even if there had been full waste facilities, the £20 per night incl. Hook-up is a few quid over the norm in the Outer Hebrides. It might well be worth paying over the odds if you're tenting due to the unusual and beautiful landscaping in the tent part of the site, but it's certainly not if you're in a motorhome.

Great site. Easy to find now, and good hardstanding for three small motorhomes. Owner friendly and helpful. The blackhouse is a fantastic bonus - warm and well equipped for a comfortable evening chatting to other campsite users. The shower in the blackhouse was warm and the water was hot - although some may think that the window did not give sufficient privacy. The pathways are steep, as is the entrance driveway but both are well maintained. The provision of home baked bread in the blackhouse was much appreciated. Lots of character in this site and good views.

My husband and I have just returned from spending 2 nights in a yurt. The campsite is great! It's a beautiful site with lots of quirky features which add to its charm. The owners very much add to the lovely atmosphere at the site, they are very very welcoming and think of everything you could possibly need.
The yurt came with duvets etc, bedding, stove to cook, pots and pans, plenty of logs(which were topped up), candles, everything a camper could need and more! On arriving at the site, we were warmly greeted, shown around and given a loaf of breads which was still warm, absolutely perfect!we were given fresh eggs on our second day, the chickens and ducks wander around the site which is lovely!
The shower and toilet block is immaculate and there is plenty of hot water. The blackhouse is amazing, we didn't use it as we had a log burner in the yurt but if we were camping it would have been a perfect place to get out the bad weather. Washing and cooking facilities in the blackhouse are great, again plenty of hot water, kettle and toaster.
We would highly recommend this site to anybody visiting harris, it's such a special place with gorgeous views-made very enjoyable by the wonderful owners.

Unlike any other site I have ever stayed on.
Location OK, pitches somewhat uneven,
A fairly energetic walk down and climb back up with tent and other equipment but all well worth it for what follows.
The owners are unique and wonderful,
the blackhouse a joy with fresh bread, comfy sofas and a large dining table, a seemingly endless supply of logs for the fire and whilst I was there a host of interesting visitors for all over Europe.
The washing/shower facilities are excellent and for the most recent addition positively unique.
If you like to 'feel' the difference this is definitely a site to try.

We stayed at Lickisto campsite in July 2012. We arrived just on the day it started raining after 10 weeks of really sunny weather so we opted for the yurts as opposed to pitching up our tent in the rain.
The yurts were brilliant - really cosy but spacious, you had your own cooking facilities, a wood burner if it got cold and there were the most fantastic views.
The campsite is really unique. Where else would you be presented with a loaf of freshly baked bread by your hosts on arrival and have the opportunity to pick your own lettuce which is grown on site.
The campsite is a great place to explore - lots of little pathways with chickens and ducks running around and a nice old boat you can sit in by the waters edge.
If it's raining there is a lovely communal blackhouse with comfy sofas and books/games to keep you occupied. There were lovely hot showers and the toilet facilities were great with lots of interesting quirky features.
Harvey and John were very welcoming hosts and gave us lots of great tips on places to go. We would definitely come to this campsite again and would recommend it to others.
