Good points, nice location, good views, good children's play area, cheap (£12 per night), friendly and helpful staff, on site pub.
Less good points, ground pretty uneven and full of rabbit holes makes tent pitching harder.
Small pitches, we camped on adjacent pitches with our friends who also have a family sized tent, and there wasn't a lot of spaces between our tents. The pitches were not wide enough to pitch sideways.

First time camping, this was a lovely site and we managed to get the last plot and for £15 for the night was great value, plenty of room for our tent and car. The only noise that bothered us was birdsong and that was lovely, even 8 young DofE kids next to us were quiet and their leaders kept checking they weren't too noisy. Pub was good and kids enjoyed the play area, small but useful shop in the pub.
Would we go again - most definitely.

We visited this pub site for a May bank holiday weekend with 2 other units - a caravan and a folding caravan and I'm so glad we did!
The weather was vile but we had a ball regardless.
The facilities were basic but clean and sufficient but the pub was brilliant! There was a great play area and outdoor covered seating. They served hearty meals and there was a live band on Saturday evening which had us dancing until 2am! The Landlord and Landlady run a tight ship but they partied with us and set the tone for a really fun and friendly evening.
There is lots to do locally. Our teenagers enjoyed mountain boarding at Hales Superbole, just 2 miles away - think snowboarding without the snow! And the younger children in our party were thrilled with our visit to the Cheshire Icecream Farm which was a great afternoon out for the cost of a few delicious ice creams :)
If I had to share just 1 niggle. I would say uncollected grass clippings!
Although the site was basic, there was something for everybody in our party here. We will definitely be returning soon :)

Stayed here for part of the second Easter week, starting on the Wednesday. On arrival, found we were the only ones there, and accepted the no. 1 pitch as booked in, but kind of wish I hadn't. Over the course of the next few days, couple of caravans, some motorhomes, and tents arrived and left, so, while not busy, was clearly popular.
Good stuff. Great for wildlife, gorgeous views of the hills surrounding the site. Very quiet at night, no problems with the pub, woke to birdsong every day. It's a little in the middle of nowhere, 8-9 miles to get to any major town, but that's a good thing to us. Site is grassy field, clearly marked pitches, a handful with very good electric provision (30amp). Excellent pub, child friendly with play area, loads of outdoor space, good food, friendly staff, Theakstons Old Peculiar beer!
Not so good stuff. Grass could do with cutting, but it had been wet before arrival. While pitches are clearly marked, they are uneven, so experienced some problems as did not have a leveller with me. The aforementioned 1st pitch was next to the gate entrance, and the location was spoiled by the overstuffed waste bins (the pub may have missed their collection due to Easter) and the necessity to regularly burn paper, cardboard and plastic in a large open incinerator between the bins and my van. The smell of damp burnt paper and melted plastic not great.
Fresh water tap was push type, and very slow filling. It was also a little close to the ground, and needed crouching over to fill a regular aqua roll.
Waste water disposal was up 7 concrete steps, and then it was necessary to lift the water carrier to knee level to empty it. Messy. TV reception (digital) not bad, occasional problems, never serious.
One to remember for a few years time, when we decide to do this area again. But I'll move a bit further down the field.

Spent weekend here this weekend and I found it lovely. The site and amenities are exactly what you need. There seems to be a lot of reviews complaining re amenities. Yes there is only one shower but every time I went for a shower (twice a day, hot and heavily pregnant) it was free. They aren't hotel standard by any means but its a campsite. The site was peaceful and relaxing despite being attached to a pub (no noise from there at all) the owners and staff were nothing but lovely and helpful. And at £12 a night it just cant be beaten. So the people who have said they wouldn't go back. Your loss. We will be returning with our newest little one as soon as we can. Loved loved loved it

We spent a weekend here in September with our kids.
Lovely rural site. Great pub with lovely food.
Nice welcome, friendly staff.
Good size field, fairly long grass which, despite our best efforts, made it a little messy in the van - however the weather had been pretty bad in the run-up to our visit so maybe there hadn't been the chance to cut the grass for a while. Grass a little water-logged in places.
Only used the camping toilets/shower a few times, was a little messy/smelly.
Great location - close to Tattonhall ice-cream farm, candle factory and lots more.
Only real down-side, didn't like the tight entrance in and out of field - large post on one side and a half demolished breeze-block wall on the other which was hard for the driver towing to see. This made pulling out difficult, due to the sweeping right-hand bend, half demolished wall and slope. That said our van is fairly long.
Other than that nice, peaceful site, happy kids, good pub = great weekend for us.

Really enjoyed our 2 nights here. Pitches are a good size and amenities are close by. The food in the pub is fantastic between us we had steak, chicken, burgers and gammon, also stayed for a superb Sunday lunch.
Lots of atmosphere, sky TV snooker, skittle alley and great real ales. Only let down by the toilets and showers, quite shabby and toilets leak. Only one toilet and shower. If they did this block up it would truly be exceptional. Brilliant play area for kids in good sight of the pub.

We had a fab time on this site. The pub people were very friendly but like other people have commented on alas the toilet and shower facilities need updating. They were clean but cold and door left open and bugs always in there.
We went to Hampton Springs fishing a few miles away, so site was ideally situated. The overall site did need a good brush up and was a bit untidy, however we would go back again as we simply loved the site and for the price it was fab.

We recently spent a (very) short break at the Bickerton poacher in Cheshire and had a lovely time. We often go walking in the area and being campers have long said we wanted to stay as its our favourite pub in the area. We stayed 1 night (Saturday). At first I was a little concerned as although we'd booked 2 weeks previously, there was no record of our booking. The downsize was that we couldn't have the electric pitch we'd booked, the upside was the owners let us stay the night for free and as I had only bought an electric kettle, let us have free tea while we were there (an offer I didn't take them up on). The owners were great about it and even tried to find us the best pitch available in terms of size and flatness.
After this bumpy start we headed to the pub for a fantastic lunch (food is always great - can highly recommend the Sunday carvery) before planning to go for a walk. When we came back a number of other 1 night campers had arrived and with them about 10 children. This was great for us as we had our 4 yr old son with us. The walk we had planned didn't materialise as our son immediately made friends with the other children who were all very friendly and wanted to play. Our son had probably the best camping weekend he's ever had, he didn't stop playing until we called him for bed, which as a parent was great for us to because we were able to get a few hours to chill out while watching the children play. We would absolutely go back again.
We thought this site although very small was brilliant for families and walkers alike. You have to bear in mind this is not a proper campsite - it is more of a pub with a field out the back with some camping facilities, with this in mind if your planning a night or 2 I cant recommend it enough, if you want something a bit longer you might want to find something with better washing facilities as they are sufficient but basic.
The pitches were a great size and they do have some electric hook ups but they seem to be more geared towards caravan/motor homes rather than tents. It is in a beautiful part of Cheshire and being on the Sandstone trail, the walks around Rawhead and Beeston are stunning. The owners were extremely friendly and very welcoming. The pub also does a cooked breakfast in the morning, that while being very nice would have been better if it was a carvery, you must remember to book though as they only cater for the numbers who have booked.
The only fault I could pick was that the pub bins (which are on the walk to beer garden/washing facilities) didn't have a lid and given the warm weather we'd had, were rather smelly (they are NOT near the campsite though). The pub has a small but sufficient shop, it didn't have any gas which we needed because of the electric mix up but as we were only there 1 night, didn't matter. If I was staying for 1/2 nights I'd give this place a 9/10, if your planning to stay longer, I'd give it a 7/10. It is a brilliant but simple site for family get togethers, weekends away or walking.

Very warm and helpful greeting on arrival, where you firstly visit the pub bar to book-in ( very useful if you fancy a quick pint ! ).
Very reasonable pitch prices.
Excellent rural location, and particularly good for local country walks.
Excellent pub, very welcoming, relaxing and great food ( we live approx 15 miles away, and have visited prior to finding out they had a campsite here).
Pitches are average size, some level, some slightly sloped.
Relaxed atmosphere, with no over-imposing rules.
Very family friendly.
Pet friendly.
Shower / toilet areas clean but limited in size, and could do with extending to accomodate the demand in the future.
Dishwash area needs same improvement / modernise.
All-in-all a good site, in lovely area, and with some excellent future potential as the size grows in popularity.
We will definitely visit again, and recommend to friends
