We stayed on the campsite for two nights and ate in the pub on Friday night.
There is just one shower and one toilet for ladies and the same for men. We felt it was not adequate for a campsite with thirty pitches which was nearly full on the weekend we stayed.
The pub customers not staying on the site are also able to use the same toilet facilities. The toilet roll and the hand towel both ran out on the Friday afternoon and were not replenished until Saturday morning.
The toilets are so small that when opening the door you can’t help but touch the toilet bowl with your legs. There is another larger disabled toilet but the light bulb was not working in that for the duration of our stay.
To walk to the facilities you have to walk past the bin area with a foul smell.
The campsite ground is fairly bumpy and the pitches are very close to each other.
The children's play area is by the pub well away from view of the campsite so not ideal for relaxing at your pitch while the kids play on the play equipment.
The only positives were the good food served in the pub and the excellent walks surrounding the campsite. Would not however stay again due to the poor facilities.

Some reviewers have commented on the relaxed nature of this site, the only regulation being that cars must be left in the car park after unloading. Well in theory this is a rule, as it clearly says so on the gate. Unfortunately when the gate is open you don't notice this, so to be charitable I'll assume that is why I counted no fewer than 20 cars on the site, next to tents and caravans. In itself this is no problem, except that it does take up space, and leaves a feeling of overcrowding.
As others have said, the facilities are minimal, and I gave up attempting to have a shower as it seemed to be continuously occupied. Also the paper towel dispenser in the gents was empty most of the time - although there seemed to be no shortage of used paper towels on the floor, as the bin was seldom emptied.
The pub owners couldn't be more friendly and helpful - and the shop is a big bonus - but we did get the feeling that they were trying to do too much with limited manpower, which probably explains the generally dirty state of the toilets.
A big plus point - if you have children - is that this is a very child friendly place. If you don't, it's probably best avoided, as even without the antisocial neighbours, it is pretty noisy most of the time.
Although it's such lovely walking country that it might be worth putting up with it as it's in such a lovely location.

A great find! This campsite is situated behind the pub. The pitches weren't sloping too much.
It is very reasonable to stay but this reflects in the facilities as there is only 1 toilet and shower each for the men and women. The floor was always wet as drainage wasn't good.
But this is what you get for a reasonable price! The playground was great for the children, it was away from the campsite but a great chance to get a drink and let the children play.
We had the breakfast at the pub in the morning and was lovely to have a full english without cooking on the camping stove!
We would stay again as the price was ideal and not too far from Chester and Wrexham.

We arrived on site to a warm welcome from Ian and Tracy. The Pub and Campsite have a user friendly feeling. We had two small tents and were shown our pitch at the bottom of sloping field, which was fine.
Pitched our tent. And went for a hike upto Rawhead and part of the Sandstone trail. The Campsite Is small and compact. There is a small shop inside the pub, for essentials.
The Pub Is great lovely meals /food very good breakfast at reasonable prices all the staff are friendly. And the managment make you feel very welcome.
A few minuses. You are requested to leave your car In the carpark after unloading.
The Gents toilets are lacking, especially the washbasin In a dark corner, without a light.
There is a lot going for this Site. Its In a very good location. For Hikers Walkers, and passing trade
All round the prices for camping and caravanning are very reasonable. I would recommend.

What a find!
It is so lovely to find a site without a load of rules and regulations. The only rule was that after unloading you had to leave your car in the car park, which was fine. The pitches are fairly small and some are on gently sloping ground.
The showers and facilities where clean and well maintained but the best thing about this site is the Bickerton Poacher itself. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the pub (and I mean welcome) the owners came and chatted to our dog several times.
The food is great, the owners are really friendly and welcoming. The pub quiz on a Sunday night is fabulous with free entry and prize money.
There is a shop inside the pub with everything you would need and everything is reasonably priced (apart from the cigarette machine at £8 per pack!)
There is a play area within the beer garden for the youngsters.
The only downside is the size of the pitches, but I WILL return :)

What a fantastic site! Stayed overnight at beginning of september. Owners and Staff great.Make you feel at home and can't do enough for you. We had a fabulous meal in the restaurant, 10/10.
I think the only downfall would be the toilet/shower facilities. There is one toilet with shower cubicle for each male and female. We didn't experience any problem as it was quiet plus I was up early and other half didn't shower, but I'm sure in the height of season there would be some desperate queues.
Perhaps separate loo/ shower would be helpful??? On the plus side, the pub opens at 8 for buffet style breakfast.Do it! well worth NOT firing the bbq up for!

This is a really nice site. We went for 1 night a found it perfect for what we wanted. An ideal base for families to explore Cheshire - the ice cream farm (10 minute drive)is a brilliant place to spend an afternoon. Although I don't know who enjoyed it more the adults or the children!
The site itself is connected to the pub (handy when we ran out of wine) and the toilets/shower were clean and tidy. The girls aged 2 and 4 year old twins loved the play area outside the pub and we were able to sit and watch them from the patio area. And all this for £8.

Took a weekend break here. Would go along with the other reviews. The owners really friendly and helpful, the pub food was excellent and really not that expensive for the quality.
This is only their second year operating a camping facility and learning as they go, certainly willing to discuss ideas for the future.
As with others maybe the only thing that let it down were the washroom facilities, with just one shower each a little limited and they could do with brightening up. Otherwise a great little place for a weekend break.

Just got back from a long weekend, enjoyed the stay greatly. Facilities where kept clean despite children using them for cleaning muddy wellies.
Very well stocked shop for any daily items you may have forgotten. The Poatcher is set in a wonderful area with great local attractions such as The Sandstone Trail. All the staff are very helpful and the pud serves great food. A site we will be revisiting again many more times.

Arrived and was shown pitch on slightly sloping ground, very nice owners, very cheap pitches, great walks in the area but not much else, pub is very nice with some great well kept traditional ales but very dear.
Lovely pub food again on the dear side but mostly home made (i would question the home made chips?). Retired back to the pitch around 8.30 and spent the next 3 hours listening to the owners dogs barking which for us would be the only reason we wouldn't return, but if this wouldn't affect you it is a nice little site,
One further downside is the shower, yes shower for 50 pitches there's only one and that is only obscured from the toilets to the pub with a very small curtain.
