This is a very good pub site, good pitches, good pub food, good ale, reasonably priced. All you want from a pub site. There is plenty of room, one of the best on site shops which is next to the bar in the pub itself so no need to rush your shopping and if that's not enough they even have a single lane bowling alley, great fun for one and all,

don't be put off by the information about television reception, digital signal is good we had no problems watching television. We were more than happy on this site and have pencilled it in for next year.

Brilliant site, lovely couple running a very busy pub, but always had time to talk and always smiled and very friendly.

Great food, great beers and selection of drinks.

Play area outside ideal for kids where you can sit outside watching them play in a very safe environment.

Facilities on site are ideal apart from only one toilet and shower unit on site per male and another for the females. However, brilliant shower, hot and kept very clean.

Big camp site for tents, caravans, motorhomes etc and lots of space to pitch, not on top of each other at all.

£11 a night with electric hook up, can't go wrong.

Will definitely return.

Great pub, food very nice and well priced, drinks quite expensive, with site to the side and behind with a gentle slope, close to the not too busy road at the top end.

There is a good play area for children which is located next to the pubs outdoor but semi-undercover courtyard which is very pleasant. The toilets and showers are also located here (one of each for ladies and gents). This is the only real downfall of the site, not enough of them and if you need a visit to the loo in your night wear you are in full view of the pub customers.

Overall a lovely relaxed site, the little shop in the pub is great as the pub is open all day, therefore so is the shop which has a good supply of produce. In a lovely location with several places to pop out to and visit for the kids and adults very near by. Would visit again for the reasonable pitch price and pretty area.

Very good, Site owners were very helpful. They have a shop situated in the pub which stocks all the essentials bread, milk, veg. Site itself was clean but a bit on the sloping side. TV reception poor but not here to watch tv.

Pub serves excellent food and good value. Shower was clean and was cleaned at least twice a day. The beer garden and kiddies park were in tip top condition and safe.

The only down side was that you had to climb steps to empty your chem waste, no problem, though steps were on the shallow side. Bit too much for the people with walking difficulties.

The surrounding area was pretty and very clean. People were very friendly. All in all had a great holiday and would go back.

Just got back after 3 nights over the May Day bank holiday. Arrived on the Friday night in teeming rain. Staff very helpful and showed us where to pitch and pointed out all the facilities.

The most disappointing thing about our first night was that after we had gone to bed with our two small children a couple arrived next to our unit and commenced to set up their tent and talk until 0230 hrs. I would like to have a cut off point for late arrivals, both our children were woken up and took ages to go back to sleep.

There is a small shop within the pub itself which serves the basics. The food served in the pub is excellent and reasonable value. The children's play area is at the front of the pub and out of sight of the camping field so parents with young children will need to supervise their little ones as they play area is next to the car park.

The Sandstone Trail is just across the road from the site and is a pleasant stroll. Chester is nearby and slightly further afield is the picturesque Wirral Peninsula.

The site has a couple of downsides, the first being the single shower, the 6 amp power supply (adequate but limiting). The waste disposal point is up a flight of steps which can be back breaking with a full waste hog.

Generally speaking a basic but good site to which we will be retuning many times in the future.

Just got back from our 3 night stay here (3/5/10) and I feel I need to put a review on it. After having read other site reviews on the site we were having second thoughts but because of the price (£8pn 5berth tent) we agreed that we wouldn't lose that much if we needed to flee!

The site is basic and unless you enjoy walking or drinking there isn't much else to do, but if you are in the car there are plenty of places to go, so it is a good base. The pub is warm and inviting and we found it to be very child friendly with our 2 boys (7 + 10) who spent most of their time on the outdoor play area. The food on the menu is very good and although the carvery isn't the greatest the kids asked for it everyday!

The staff were brilliant and made sure we were well fed and watered. The only thing that let it down was the 1 and only shower and the lack of pot washing facilities but we were told that more showers are being put in later this month. All in all we would recommend this site to other families.

The site should in theory be idyllic. Good location, easy to find, with the camping field adjacent to the main pub / b&b. There were some electric hookups available (mostly for caravans- a few more would have been useful around the field), but sadly we missed these due to not booking early enough - silly old us!

The field itself was fine with many flat areas - the best ones being close to the road which becomes a bit lively at around 5.30ish (this was on a Bank Holiday Monday, if that has any bearing on what's normal).

The only real complaints that we had was the toilet / shower facility. There is a solitary shower cubicle in the gents WC area, and this whole area wasn't kept clean. No shower at all in the ladies. Since these rooms are at one end of the main pub, it seemed a bit remiss for the owners not to make an effort.

The whole place looks as though it could do with a bit of upgrading and TLC (it's main custom comes from the pub and its dinery, and it seems that campers' needs are quite low down the list of priorities). But for £6 per night for a tent pitch in Cheshire, I suppose one shouldn't complain too much.
