We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Bijou and would like to say WOW, what a fantastic site. We stumbled across this site purely by accident and am so glad we did. The site was fab, excellent location minutes walk from swanage town/seafront. The owners are fab and made us feel at ease from the offset. I won't ramble on as you need to visit for yourselves. What a gem of a place 10/10 from us

We have just returned from a weekend stay here. The site was packed and it was difficult to find a pitch.
The toilet facilities consist of portaloos and are inadequate for the amount of people on site. One toilet was blocked and was still not attended to by the time we had left.
The site promote recycling which is great, however when placing our rubbish in a mixed cycling bin I was greeted by a hostile owner who was moaning about sorting through everyone's rubbish every day. I didn't need to hear his gripes as I am a paying customer.
On a positive note, it is really close to Swanage and the reception staff were extremely pleasant.

Yet again we had a great time at Kirkwood Park. I love this site as it is so near to the beach with the added bonus of a children's play park on the way, which my children think adds a fun start and end to their day on the beach.
The facilities were even better than before and the owners just as friendly and helpful.
Although initially the price is high for a campsite, this is offset by not having to drive to the beach and pay parking charges.
I look forward to returning again next year.

We went to this site last year and returned again this year. Even though we didn't expect anything to have changed we wanted to return as the place is wonderful if you can live with the quirks. The two things that make this place are the people staying and the location.
The key thing I loved about this place was the location. It really was a short walk to the beach. We stayed for four nights and I didn't use the car once. We did get a sneaky lift to Studland but hey.
The initial booking was very easy and friendly. We then needed to extend our stay and when we spoke to them they were great again. They seemed to be a very jolly and helpful team.
On the day of the arrival we were able to get a wheelbarrow and the children loved that. Don't get me wrong it's not as easy as having the car next to the tent but it was fine.
You choose you pitch and that was great, we found a place near a bunker so the children could play in the sand. We learnt this from our visit last year.
The ground is all flat and really easy to get pegs in, divine.
It was quite busy while we were there but this was great, lots of people to meet and get to know. One really unexpected bonus was that as its a pitch and putt it has bunkers and the children were all using these as sandpits to play in. Our guys loved this and played in there for long periods, including set up and take down time.
The site offers fires and lots of people made use of them, they looked pretty but didn't affect us otherwise.
The toilets are portable style ones but they have proper toilets in them. They were generally fine. They were better this year than before. They had water to the sinks in them to wash your hands. It would have been nice if they were cleaned and maintained a bit more often.
The showers were a similar style but they were quite small. I wasn't wild for the showers but again fine for a few days. The children (4 and 5 years old) went in with my wife and their showers seemed fine. They were fine except when then got blocked and again some simple maintenance and regular cleaning would have made this much better. Some of the other people I spoke to were really put off by these units not being cleaned as often as they should.
The sinks for washing and shaving etc was my biggest issue. They we tiny and set back at the back on a deep worktop. I'm about 6ft and I found they a pain. The children had to be lifted. Shaving there was not ideal either, it was all outside and so they got all the dew from the morning etc. Not a show stopper but seemed like a silly thing to do. Why not have the sinks at the front or have a less deep worktop.
The playground that's nearby is amazing. We loved going here.
They charged my phone, my laptop, supplied a pump for my bed and the dingy to blow up. We froze our ice packs and used the gazebo over the bench on the final day for lunch as it finally poured down.
All in all, the location is amazing, we will be back. I'd love it if there were more toilets and better washing facilities but even if nothing changed we will be back next year for our 3rd year for sure. Enjoy

Not regular campers by any means but were drawn to Bijou by the description of proximity to Swanage and its beaches for the July festival. Campsite is ok. Facilities are basic but ok. Problem for me was noise as the site is adjacent to a busy road which had regular traffic until late at night, a railway line in constant use & pitches too close together. Having stayed at New Forest sites before I would go back there in future just from a noise point of view. Added to which we had a rather inconsiderate bunch of noisy late night revellers on the next pitch. It is hushed voices from 11pm apparently! Could have fooled me. As the site is condensed onto 9 holes of an 18-hole pitch & putt course, all pitches are too close together during the limited times it is open as it gets quite busy. It will no doubt be another couple of years before we go camping again but when we do, despite it being in a lovely part of the UK, it won't be here.

Just returned from a 6 night stay (20-26 Aug)
As before location location location!
Excellent base. Good park, not far from town centre or food shop. Had 5 hot days and one day that was awful, so we hopped upon the car ferry at Studland and went to Poole.
We mainly used Swanage beach, but as a member of the NT, we used Studland bay too. I did use the car a few times, as one of the party has problems walking, the site was totally accessible for her. The toilets were always clean, showers were ok too.
Owners were very friendly and helpful, always saying hello etc when in passing.
As we were in a 'long stay area' I must say. I thought it was a pretty small area compared to the rest of the site. Also a few 'solar lights' on the bridges might help, or just a lick of fluorescent paint to highlight the posts.
The price was a little eye watering, but then, I suppose the premium is the excellent location.
There is quietness from 11pm, and silence from midnight. This is taken very seriously.
Would recommend and return!

The key thing I loved about this place was the location. It really was a short walk to the beach. We stayed for three nights and I didn't use the car once, although we were blessed with three good days of sunshine
The initial booking was very easy and friendly. We then needed to extend our stay and when we spoke to them they were great again. They seemed to be a very jolly and helpful team.

You choose you pitch and that was great, we found somewhere that looked fine and hopped in there. I'm new to camping (this is my 2nd experience) This worked for me.

The site offers fires and lots of people made use of them, they looked pretty but didn't affect us otherwise.
The toilets are portable style ones but they have proper toilets in them. They were generally fine. There was no flowing water to the sink and it pointed you to the sinks outside. This was generally fine but water in there would have been nice, even just cold but this was not an issue.
The showers were a similar style but they were quite small. I wasn't wild for the showers but again fine for a few days. The children (3 and 4 years old) went in with my wife and their showers seemed fine.
The sinks for washing and shaving etc was my biggest issue. They we tiny and set back at the back on a deep worktop. I'm about 6ft and I found they a pain. The children had to be lifted. Why not have the sinks at the front or have a less deep worktop.
They also sold bacon sausage and egg baguettes for breakfast, plus tea and coffee. This seemed crazy to me as you gotta do the camping thing and cook it yourself but they seemed popular so I'll shut up :)
The playground that's nearby is amazing. We loved going here.
They charged my phone, my laptop, supplied a pump for my bed and the dingy to blow up. We froze our ice packs and used the gazebo over the bench on the final day for lunch as it finally poured down.

Just had a weekend here and it was fine. The owner is a decent fella as is his partner and their assistant, a lovely friendly lady and they're all willing to help and have a chat.
They've gone down the eco-route which encourages everyone to be clean and tidy for a change from some sites we've been to. Just a few more WC's and showers would help but apart from that, no complaints.
The location is perfect for the town and beach and there is very little local noise later on.
Will definitely return next year for a longer visit and using a barrow to take your gear to the pitches from the car park does wonders for your figure.

Not long returned from 4 nights here, and I have to say that it was a really lovely, welcoming place to camp.
The site is actually on 9 holes of a pitch & putt golf course, and is no more than 10 mins walk from the beach and town centre. It's lovely and flat (nothing like some of the other local sites we saw where all the tents are on the side of a hill) and extremely well kept - the grass we pitched on was lovely.
They offer small make-shift fire pits which we didn't use but a few others did, and it was nice to have that campfire smell about the place.
The toilets and showers appeared to be the plastic festival type toilets, but although they were in the plastic units, the toilets were proper fully plumbed and flushing toilets, and the showers were hot and all were kept lovely and clean.
The site wasn't hugely busy during our weekday stay so we had no issues with queueing.
There is also a mother and child shower room where the temperature is adjustable, although having the two showers on at the same time caused temperature issues, so we just used the one.
There are washing up points and a drinking water point.
You don't park next to your tent, but you don't park far away, and there are numerous wheelbarrows for transporting your gear.
They also sold bacon sausage and egg baguettes for breakfast, plus tea and coffee - a luxury for at least one of our mornings!
There was a bit of traffic noise, but I have to say it only disturbed me (the lightest sleeper), my husband and kids didn't notice a thing!
The golf course was nice - we all did the remaining 9 holes of the course (half price for campers) and the kids loved it, as they did the steam train up to Corfe Castle and of course the beach. It was lovely to be able to walk into town in the evening and enjoy a meal in a nice restaurant knowing no one had to drive.
The kids also took the opportunity to take themselves off to a playground just outside the site (reached by a small footpath) and make friends with whoever happened to be there.
There's no electric, but they would charge phones in the office, and also had a airbed pump available under a gazebo (a great idea even though we didn't need it). They also freeze icepacks.
The site is fairly new to camping, but I think they've made it a lovely site, not too many rules (except a nice one of quiet after 11pm) and everyone was friendly and chatty, and it was nice that they responded to my email enquiry initially - so many sites don't seem to answer emails.

We booked Bijou camping on a last minute basis and from the minute I phoned the owner he couldn’t have been friendlier.
When you get there you park your car in a separate area to where the camping is which is great as there is no car noise early morning or late at night. You are able to use a number of wheelbarrows to take your stuff to your pitch which I thought was nice and quirky.
The site was quite busy but we still managed to find a lovely little spot on flat ground with plenty of hedging for shelter.
There are toilets and showers and washing up facilities although in portacabin style buildings not your usual brick built ones and although the facilities are not huge for the number of people, (I believe this site has only been up and running for a year or two). I am sure they will expand, but what we did see was spotlessly clean and I have to say the lack of numerous facilities is kind of what makes this campsite – it’s a little more “wild” than others but who wants to go camping where you have every single facility you would have at home anyway!
Things that I loved about this campsite…. The peace and quiet… we slept in till 9am each morning which is unheard of when camping!
The proximity to the town and beach…a 5 min walk brilliant…the fact that you can buy wood and fire burners … the smell and scene of everyone having a fire at night was just bliss!
The brilliant owners who very nicely made us a cup of tea in the morning as we didn’t bring the right stuff!
All in all a lovely stay – we will definitely be back!
