We stayed at Swanage Bijou Camping last year during the first season it was open for camping, we really enjoyed the informal nature of the site, its location in Swanage is perfect so we were looking forward to returning this year.

We were not disappointed again this year, so much so we came twice! The site is informal so you choose your own pitch, the site is completely flat and there is plenty of room for tables / chairs / cooking equipment etc. The site has a car park with wheelbarrows for transporting tents etc which is a great idea as it makes the site completely safe for children to play without having to make way for cars.

The facilities are pretty basic - there are portaloos and showers, with two additional toilets inside when the main reception area is open, as well as sinks for washing up which are all kept clean.

I noticed on other reviews people have been charged for toilet rolls, this was not the case this year, they were all provided for free, as was handwash and even washing up liquid at the sinks.

The location is perfect, 5-10 minutes stroll to the town centre and beach, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and the site does its bit for the environment with waste being recycled.

If you enjoy flashy showers and facilities then this site may not be for you, but if you want a basic, small site that is safe for children and close to amenities then you cant beat this one. We love it and look forward to going back next year!

Not much more to say that hasn't already been said by other reviewers.

If you either have kids with you or enjoy camping near a wonderful seaside town but still getting peace and quiet this site is ideal.

For some the down side would be the rather basic facilities on site but during our stay they were adequate enough for us. There is a chance a stray golf ball might land in the site but it would have to be a very bad shot!

The plus sides are many, relaxed and informal, level ground (although can get boggy in bad weather), great for kids as there is a large play park and skate park across a field from the site (we lost our 4 boys for the whole holiday). A short walk brings you to the lovely Victorian seaside resort of Swanage with it's many shops, pubs, cafes and of course a sandy beach. There are even steam train rides through the Purbeck countryside available. Fire pits are allowed and the owner will rent you an old roasting tin screwed to a couple of bricks if you don't have your own. He also sells kindling and a few logs for £5.

The owner is a bit eccentric and may try and interest you in joining up to his political party if you find yourself in conversation with him. He is a bit forward when it comes to cash but on the other hand once you've paid him he will leave you alone.

All in all one of my favourite family holiday camp sites.

We have just come back from a trip here, 3 kids and 4 adults.

The facilities were more than adequate, 4 individual portable showers which were always hot, and a larger unit for Mothers and children which was great for my wife and the kids. Plenty of toilets which were well stocked with paper etc. And 2 washing up sinks and 2 hand basins.

The wheelbarrowing backwards and forwards to the car was a bit of a pain but couldn't be helped as there are only small bridges onto the site itself.

Would book here again.

My sisters and I met here with our children, having read all the previous comments about this site. All I can say is that we had the best time here for the following reasons:

The perfectly level ground is well kept due to it normally being a pitch and putt. There was loads of space to choose from and there was no restriction as to where you pitched your tent. We chose a lovely quiet spot and had the free use of a wooden table/bench during our stay, which was great for kids at mealtimes. The use of a wheelbarrow to transport your belongings to and from your car is a novel idea and really worked well.

Due to the camping being just temporary, portaloos and portashowers were in use, but quite honestly the water was hot and the showers were powerful enough for me so I had no problem here. There were enough sinks for toothbrushing and washing up to cope with the amount of visitors at the time I was there.

A really lovely idea is the campfire hire. Actually it cost nothing, just a price of a few logs, kindling was found around the site by the children. The children can run around freely as there are no cars driving to and from tents.

The icing on the cake was the short walk to the beach, passing a lovely children's playground on the way. Our car didn't move all weekend which was such a relief and made the break very relaxing.

I will definitely be returning to this site, it's a shame it must close for the season at the end of August.

Pre-booked our stay for a motorbike trip and stayed for one night.

Was a little strange camping on a golf course, but meant it was very well kept.

When we visited a lot of the site was unusable as recent rainfall had turned it into a bog. The sites that were available were very nice.

The toilet and shower facilities (although temporary for August only), were very functional and clean.

They allowed campfires, which makes really camping.

Parking is separate from the tents, but wheel barrows provided for carting your gear.

There was a bit of road noise from the adjacent Victoria Ave.

Overall a very nice site, friendly and helpful staff, and only a ten minute walk to the beach/shops etc.

The first thing to note about this site is that it is a temporary site open for only 6 weeks in the Summer. With this in mind, the owner is doing a great job and is working really hard to make it a good site.

Yes the toilets look like portaloos but inside are proper toilets on mains water with 2 extra toilets available in the reception area. The showers are also on mains water in portaloo type units and there is a larger unit with loads of space for ladies containing 2 showers, a sink, shelving, mirrors and electrical sockets.

2 washing up sinks and 3 small sinks for brushing teeth, shaving etc, all under cover.

Hot water is always available.

The site itself is peaceful as no cars are allowed (wheelbarrows provided to move gear from car to pitch) and there is a huge field, skate park and children's playground next door to the site.

The only problem is after half a day of heavy rain, some areas of the site become water logged. It did drain quickly but more persistent rain would cause a problem.

5 minute walk to town and the beach so no need to use the car.

Would definitely recommend this site and would use again.

Chose this site due to its location near Swanage, a lovely seaside town with all the facilities, galleries, restaurants and shops you could need. With a teenage daughter, it's as well to have somewhere to spend the evenings. There's also a fantastic playground a few minutes from the site for younger children (or young at heart).

The site was fairly empty when we arrived, but filled up at the weekend, with tents even being pitched on the putting green! This made it too crowded and the facilities were insufficient for the number of campers. We also found there were some larger groups staying, who certainly didn't take note of the request for hushed voices after 11pm.

The facilities are basic, portaloos and showers. There was only 1 sink for washing up, which was not under cover, although a gazebo was being erected over it as we were leaving.

However, the pitches were flat - even those not on the green! The benefit of the site is definitely its location. Good range of walking; boat trips from Swanage to Poole and Bournemouth; a good base for exploring the delightful Purbeck countryside and good bus routes if you want to leave the car.

There's also the steam train which we took to Corfe Castle (our favourite village, with an excellent campsite at Norden Farm). Incidentally, you can't park by the tent but a wheelbarrow is provided to help transport your gear.

If you like luxurious camping, this site isn't for you, but we enjoyed our week here (our daughter wasn't impressed with the showers, but that's teenagers for you).

We visited the site mid-August and were pleased to find that is was nice and level with plenty of scope to pick our own pitch. As we were three families that was really good because we could group together, and being able to have a camp fire was brilliant.

At first we were surprised that we couldn't take the car to the camping field itself but once we were in (with the aid of a wheelbarrow from the owner to move our stuff) we found it really good to be away from car noises in the mornings and not to have to worry about the kids running about.

The walk into town and the beach was a doddle and we didn't use our car the whole week.

The toilets and showers were just adequate but I spoke to the owner before booking again this year and was told that last year was his first season and he had no way to know the site was going to prove so popular, and he assured me that about double the facilities would be available this year (or in the case of washing up sinks five times!)

We came for 2 nights and were very glad it was not longer. The location is great - you can walk to the beach and the children loved the playpark nearby. BUT as soon as it rained the fields were like a bog. The 3 toilets 2 showers and 1 sink are inadequate for the number of campers (at least 70 tents on the Saturday night) The owner is friendly but has some funny ways - loo rolls cost 50p and you must make sure you display your parking 'sticker' correctly. He also likes his notices very much, to his credit he did evict some very noisy campers who had kept most of the site awake until 4am.

This site is in a fantastic location, 10 minutes from the beach and next door to a really good playpark (the children spent hours there) but the three portaloos were dirty most of the time and were insufficient for the large influx of campers at the weekend. There was one sink for everyone to wash-up in and also get their fresh water from.

Toilet rolls were not provided in the loos and sold by the site owner for 50p each.

There are lots of pubs nearby, in the town centre and near to the site. There is a supermarket (Co-op) about 10 minutes walk away and a Spar shop 5 minutes walk away across the neighbouring golf course and over the fence. A van comes to the site every morning with fresh bread, papers and some supplies (juices, loo roll, etc) and he will take orders for the next day.
