Read previous reviews so wasn't expecting luxury, but having left it until the last minute to find a site with EHU available at Easter weekend beggers couldn't be choosers was the thought, and being 25 minutes from home we could easily pack up and leave if it was so terrible.
First impressions what a lovely owner when phoning, said no problem all booked in, they didn't have a card machine so couldn't take a deposit (very trusting hope people don't take advantage). Found the site very easily met by lovely lady who walked us to pitch and checked it was ok before leaving us to it.
Think she was a little dubious that two small women could pitch a tent in the high winds, but determination won.
Facilities :- not many, toilets were clean and had loo roll, saw them being cleaned a few times but pretty thankless task with the grass and mud. As others said basic but I didn't mind that. Could do with somewhere for washing and cleaning teeth etc as sinks were too small and nowhere to put toilet bag but we managed for a couple of days. Shower was a £1 token for 15 mins which is to be purchased from the bar. Didn't try them but had a look showers seamed pretty clean and had what you would need large area to put clothes and a wooden bench, but was too cold outside and I wimped out.
Only other downside was no where to wash pots but again not a problem to wash in bowl at side of tent.
Plus sides, loads of space for kids to play, big field for bal games, little wood on site for climbing trees and having fun. One thing that would be nice would be a little play area, maybe a climbing frame or swing set nothing OTT just somewhere for kids to meet other kids, maybe they'll add one, it does seem to be a newish site, short car ride to Thryberg res, lovely walk round and little cafe.
Turn left at camp entrance and walk 10 mins to a small shop with basics, lovely canal nearby had a little wander along the bank, fishing on site and just five mins walk away if you want to fish.
Didn't venture far but looked promising for things nearby to do, will try more things next visit as I'm sure will return again and again for odd weekends
Had a drink at the lodge joined to site, prices fair. Quiet but lovely, nice beer garden dog friendly. Pub also sells food looked lovely but didn't try this time. They also offer a take away menu, and will even make you a take away Sunday lunch if you are craving your Sunday lunch whilst under canvas.
Would we go again, definitely, lovely friendly little set up and bonus nothing for the kids to spend a fortune on, just loads of space and fresh air, beautiful countryside but close to civilisation if you crave it.
Oh and a phone mast very close so kids had good enough reception to get netflix etc on the tablets and we had best phone signal I've ever had on a campsite

On arrival we were greeted with the sight of containers and rough looking portacabins. We would have turned around and tried elsewhere but as it was the Bank Holiday weekend we decided to give it a go.
Very pleasant and helpful owner, good size pitches. Nice field with lots of space. BUT the toilet facilities left a lot to be desired - shabby, dirty and no washing up facilities. 1 shower cubicle which we didn't dare try. I'm afraid they spoilt what could be a very nice site.
Sorry to say that we won't be going back.

We booked this site from Saturday till Tuesday so we could visit family in Doncaster and have the first camp trip of the year. The weather was scorching sunshine throughout as the met office promised. The site was quite busy when we arrived but was empty but for us and one other by Sunday night.
It is a huge flat site, once Rotherham Utd training ground. Elec hook-ups are nearest the facilities, plenty of them but also loads of space for non elecs. The ground is perfect for pitching tents, but do check for debris especially in the rougher grassed part (the ground looked so good I neglected to do this and found I'd pitched on a bottle).
The owner of the site is quiet, unobtrusive but helpful. A very nice man.
The toilets & showers (£1 token for 15 min) are still in portacabins but satisfactory.
There is no playground for the kids but loads of room for them to play ball etc.
We had some food in the lodge on the first night. Nice, but you don't get much for your money and, though they will discount for kids, there are no kids portions as such.
A £5 taxi ride got us to Swinton where the train station is. From here, Sheffield, Doncaster, Leeds etc are easily achievable. (Swinton - Doncaster £4). Also here is 'The Station' Pub. Fosters at £2. 10 pint and a blow up slide for the kids - perfect as you get back off the train and await your taxi.
I would happily return to this site.

Stayed here for the bank holiday,
Shame about the weather, but still had a great time, as we were only there for the fishing near-by,
The Friday night was a bit of a joke, due to something going on, ie karaoke!
This place will be a great place in the future, but as for now its ok,
Shame you cant get daytime drinks and food in there lodge, as its seems its only for dinners
Maybe in time this will change for the better,
Fishing on the river looks good, but it was close season at time of being there,

Looking forward to visiting this site but was disappointed. The approach was spoilt by portacabins, 'ugly' containers.
The toilet/shower facilities were not pleasant!Glad we had our own. Saturday night, there was a wedding, loud music until late. Wasn't a problem, we watched a loud DVD but it could be if you want to sleep. Worth checking before you book!
Plenty to see in the area, Wentworth Village, dog friendly pub 'The Rockingham Arms'.
This site could be improved with a good shower block. Will return to the area but not this site.

We used this site as a overnight stop, on the way back home from Norfolk.
When we pulled into the car park, I have to say I was very sceptical about the place. All you can see when you get there is large metal containers / portakabins on the right hand side.
Lee checked us in, and is so friendly and nothing is an issue. We got sited very quickly, and I have to say we were relieved that we were in a caravan and not a tent.
The toilet block is in a Portakabin, and although clean some of the urinals in the mens didn't even have running water. There is one shower, which is £2 for 30 mins - again pleased we had our own. The chemical toilet disposal is a large container that you have to stretch over and unscrew the top, and the smell is disgusting. There wasn't anywhere to dispose of grey water, so we had to put that in the long grass. For rubbish there is recycling skips, and one household wheelie bin, which on Sunday morning was overflowing with bags around it.
Because of all of this, I feel that the charge of £15 per night is quite expensive. We have stayed on sites with awesome shower/toilet facilities for the same price. I think the tariff should be around £6 / £7 per night. The camping pods looked great, but at £40 per night on a weekend, I would expect the toilet / shower facilities to be a whole lot better.
Although that sounds quite negative, we actually really liked the site, and would probably return. It was great weather, so nice to be able to walk over to the pub and have a pint sitting outside.

Absolutely cracking site, although its new, we have travelled the country for the past few years camping, and yet the newness of this site makes it more appealing. We received a very, very friendly welcome on our first visit and it has continued since.
Locked gates, real pub (not taking your eyes out), ample walking, fishing opportunities, pet friendly and freedom to enjoy yourself with no pomp! Would strongly recommend this to anyone, we will continue to have this on our circuit.
If we had any negatives, then it would have to be, the toilet / shower facilities, they are currently in portacabins whilst construction is finished, even so they are what they are and they work absolutely fine and kept clean.

We have stayed at this site a couple of times, and we have enjoyed our stay, yes the site is new and of course they will be some snags, but you get a warm welcome. The walks in the woods are great, and our dog loves this part. The owner is doing his best, we found the toilets clean. There are electric hook ups, and the water supply is up and running. The shower block was open the last time we stayed. The tent campers that were there did not seem to have a problem, when using these. I could recommend this site and we will be regular visitors at this site.
Park Gate for shopping is near, so is Rotherham centre, with a good few shops round.

We only stayed for the one night (Saturday) as it was my dads birthday. Seemed like the ideal opportunity to give the van and awning an airing. Got the number for the owner at the site from their website. Very friendly chap and called me back as promised once he had checked the ground wasn't too muddy.
The facilities are still under construction but it didn't worry us too much not having on site showers for one night. The owner did say they would be finished this week though - mid march 2011! They also own and run the on site pub, the Hooton Lodge. It's been decorated to a lovely standard and the food was nice.
The site is on the playing fields that Rotherham united used as their training grounds, put to far better use now! There is access to river fishing just off the camping area. Brand new electric hook up units with built in night lights to guide you home.
Although this is a new site it has a lot to offer and can only get better as facilities are added, no complaints at £12 for the night Inc ehu.

This is a new site but to be fair it is not ready to be open in my view. The toilets were dirty on arrival and were not cleaned as far as I could tell for the whole week we were there.
Mens toilets - The urinals had no flushing water going through them but were still in use, so the smell was appalling, no toilet paper or soap and no hot water or even hot water taps.
Ladies toilets - had paper but this was not replaced when it ran out. The sinks are small and only one had a shower unit attached just above it so that you can get some hot water into the sink, though it is not possible to use the sinks to wash anything other than hands.
No pot washing area.
Showers we were told were £2 and a token had to be bought in the pub, and since they were locked all the time and I didn’t see anyone in there. I did not get a chance to see what they were like but it was a kind of mini prefab building.
Waste from chemical toilets had to be disposed of into a large square plastic container which was about four to five feet high and across, with a large central lid that had to be unscrewed before lifting your toilet up to chest height and then across two feet to try to get it into the container! Messy, back breaking and quite honestly disgusting especially since it was clear others had missed as well.
We were advised that waste water could be just tipped onto the ground near the dyke and bushes which amazed me but he was quite clear about it, I suppose the idea was to stop us having to heft it up to the big container.
The owner was very friendly and is obviously still making changes so I only hope that this site changes radically very soon as I really did not think it was worth what we paid. The deposit also seemed rather high at £5 per night so a week would add up to rather a lot.
I would like to add however that the site is very spacious with a pretty walk through woodland nearby and there is a play area for kids, the owners dog runs freely about happily and so the site seems very dog friendly
