Lovely well maintained site. Friendly staff.
The best shower and toilet facilities I've ever come across.
Secure site with barrier entrance.
Lovely walks in surrounding countryside.
A very quiet place to stay.

Hooton Lodge Farm was easy to find and in a lovely location next to the River Don. Apart from the pylons in the field, the location is perfect.
We knew about the possible addition of a funfair but did not expect the huge party going on throughout the day and night.
Having read the site rules, we knew that the music would be turned off at 10pm so we could get some rest. Unfortunately, the party continued until well past this time and once the music had been turned off, other campers took up the DJ-ing and went on for much longer.
Dogs and their left-behinds were not a problem.
The toilets (the main toilets, not the portapottys, we didn't dare go in them) never once had any toilet paper or any soap. There were 5 cubicles in the ladies if I remember rightly. We never did find the showers or the bins.
There is a small launderette and one sink for washing up in. Considering the amount of people they let on the site, I think it needs a few more.
The £20 fee was a bit over the top considering the lack of care to the facilities and the distance to walk to them from the tent field.
The gentleman on the gate was friendly, but there were no directions to the showers etc.
Basically if you don't mind bringing your own loo roll, soap and ear plugs, then Hooton Lodge is the place for you.

Very pleasantly surprised by this site. I rode there 'bikepacking' for an overnighter on Monday 24th August. I live quite locally, so wouldn't normally stay so close to home. If not for the pandemic situation I probably would have never discovered Hooton Lodge camp site.
Excellent facilities which appear to be newly built: showers, toilets, pot washing and small launderette block. Nice hot showers, clean toilets, one of which appeared wheelchair/disability friendly. Several hand saniter dispensors at the facilities block. Fairy liquid provided at the washing up sinks.
Big electric gate on entrance to site, locks at 10pm.
Massive camping field, large percentage of which is pan-flat, can pitch basically anywhere and there are even portaloo's dotted about for those who pitch very far from the facilities block.
On site there are several kids fairyground rides, a large marque, Beamish beer trailer, burger bar and pizza oven trailers which I'm told are all open Thursday to Saturday. I stayed on a Monday so these were all closed (particularly sad I missed out on the beer trailer!).
There are also a couple of rows of private touring caravans which have been turned into statics, and the owners clearly enjoy the site and take pride in their little patches of grass around their 'vans, with decking, ornaments, flower beds etc.
There are 2 bell tents for hire on the site.
The site looks to get quite active Thursdays to Saturdays so if you have kids it's perfect, if you want peaceful tranquility then go Sunday to Wednesday and I recommend pitching either near Hooton brook which marks the 'front' of the site, or over by the river on the far side of the site.
The M1 and A1 are both about 10 minutes drive away. The surrounding area is a mix of large towns (e. G. Rotherham) to the southwest and then small rural villages and country lanes to the east. The site is close to the Trans-Pennine trail, Thrybergh Country Park), Conisborough castle and victorian viaduct, Wentworth (stately home, village and garden centre/restaurant), as well as tourist attractions Cusworth and Brodsworth (stately homes). Yorkshire Wildlife Park and the Tropical Butterfly House are both a short car journey away. Plenty to keep kids entertained for a weeks stay.
I've scored each category 10/10, apart from site location, which I gave a 9 only due to the fact that it's rural idyllic location is infringed slightly by a large town (Rotherham) being about a mile to the southwest (on the plus side the supermarket shopping trip is very easy to get to at less than 3 miles away).
Overall I would say this site looks like it has undergone some very positive developments, such as the facilities block and entertainment, while some areas, away from the camping field but in view, are work in progress and will become tidier as the site continues develop.
I am definitely staying again, next time by car with the missus for a couple of nights during the more 'entertaining' days, Thursday-Saturday.

Massive field with relatively few campers mid week.
Toilet and shower block clean and no queues except at peak times then only short wait. Hand sanitiser available.
Portable toilets around field as additional resource.
Quiet at night no noise after 10. Small Fair on site and also bar and Pizza van. These only open certain afternoons and close before dark. Lots of space for children to run and play.
Staff friendly and helpful. Visits to Sherwood forest, Rother valley country park Conisborough castle. Only 1. 25 hours to Coast at Cleethorps by motorway.

Hooton Lodge is an absolutely amazing site.
The staff are extremely friendly, it's very clean and staff are always cleaning.
Our children are from 9-19 and adore Hooton lodge. There are activities for the children, exploring, different food stalls daily and a bar for the adults.
It offers everything that you could possibly need from a campsite and more.
The toilet block offers a shower and hairdryer there is washing machine available and it has electric gates for added security on site.
There are 3 large shops a short drive away should you need something extra when you are there.
Asda at denaby approx 2miles
Coop at swinton approx 3miles
Lidl at mexborough approx 5 miles.
It also has close access to the A1 so is ideal for travellers coming from a little further.
The staff genuinely can not do enough for you and the pleasant surrounding make you feel at home.
This truly is a place that you will come back to time and time again.
