 We like this site and use it for last minute weekend get-aways. We have camped here in tents and caravan and had a good experience each time.
Wardens are friendly and happy to help with anything you might need.
Shop is very well stocked and not pricey. Toilet and shower blocks small but modern and clean.
Good play area and games room for the kids.
Close to National Trust's Castle Drogo. Drewsteignton about 5 mins drive for local pubs and shops. Chagford is about 20 mins drive away with an outdoor swimming pool and lots of shops, pubs, restaurants etc.

This site is a very pleasant and friendly. We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The site is part of the camping and caravan club franchise, so the standards were fairly high in terms of service and cleanliness.
We stayed in one of the 'grass with electric' pitches at the far end, which was pretty quiet despite the playground being close by. We arrived during a high season period mixed in with half term, so their were a fair few kids running in and around the tents and caravans, but this was never a problem as they were really enjoying themselves and were respectful.
The showers and toilets were nice and clean. A mop had been left out for the visitors to clear up their own mess but as is always the case, not many of them did! A couple of times I walked in to see muddy and grassy floors, but I think this was more to do with people being lazy rather than the site owners not taking care of things. They did close both blocks for a couple of hours each day to do a full clean, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more presence on the checks before and after this time.
The campsite runs very close to a main road but never posed a massive problem for noise. Lots of lovely birds and the occasional comical Moo from a cow in the next field is what we heard most of the time!
Overall a great site which we enjoyed and could relax in, instead of worrying about late night noise and anti-social behaviour. Mature, respectful and friendly campers all made for a pleasant time!

Stayed for 1 night in late October, on gravel hardstanding with EHU. There were plenty of free pitches for me to choose from this late in the season, which was lucky for me because my 10m cable would not reach on my first choice.
Since I arrived early evening and left early-ish the next day I cannot give too detailed a review, but the warden I met when I arrived was friendly and the central toilet/shower block was very clean. The same block has a washing-up area outside under cover and a CDP around the back.
Cannot comment either about the surrounding area since it was just a stopover as I headed eastwards from Cornwall. The site is handily situated near the A30.

Nice quiet site, easy to find with 60+ nice sized pitches, some divided by hedges. Janet and Barry were most helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Roads are quarry waste based so are a little rough for bicycles or disability scooters but are OK for cars and caravans.
Newspapers available at the shop along with a small stock of the more essential provisions (milk, bread, eggs etc).
Toilet facilities are clean and tidy though a little small for the larger person. Showers are operated via that infuriating little button that NEVER seems to stay in long enough. At busy times the water pressure is terrible so you do have to pick your times when the site is full.
Walking off site is very up and down so a good pair of lungs is essential. The walk to Drewsteignton is far from a stroll but most enjoyable nevertheless. Lots of nice smells for dogs.
We enjoyed it and hope you do too.

Having just read the previous reviews it is very apparent that a change of ownership has taken place, unfortunately, the fantastic sounding croissants & coffee is no longer available!.
We stayed @ the site in our Outwell Nebraska XXL. We booked a jumbo pitch and there was ample room however it was separated from the road by a 2 foot thick hedge which is by far from ideal when it transpired the road was a favourite of boy racers & motorbike owners. The speed they travelled formed a sort of vortex that sucked & flapped the tent all over the place and the noise made for a broken nights sleep every night, not good as we were there for a week.
Our friends were meant to be next to us but there was a mess up on the booking and they ended up opposite us which wasn't a problem but they also booked electric hook up but ended up without which was a mega inconvenience. When confronted about the mistake the owners, unfortunately, were far from helpful.
The freezer, a main reason for us booking there, was broken so we could not freeze our ice blocks. If we were told of this initially we could have tried to sort something out. As it was, the owners repaired a hairdryer 1st (priorities?)and then informed us that if we liked, we could 'rent' ice blocks from their 'spare' freezer. We lost a lot of food due to a simple fix not being thought of due to, it seems, an eye to a quick bob.
The laundry room was a nice touch but £3.40 is way excessive to wash 1 load of clothes. We didn't use the dryer but I assume that if you did then you could be looking at £7.00 for 1 washload. Take your stuff to Okehampton, there's bound to be a laundrette there or if you haven't got 2 toddlers like us then try & make do.
Whilst we were there a number of things went wrong & to be honest they could happen anywhere at any time but the response times and general lethargy by the staff and lack of information made for a pretty poor stay.
It wasn't all bad as the play area was good and the games room a good idea also. The recycling facilities were good and it was well landscaped too. It was very easy to find and the local villages were great, we can thoroughly recommend dinner at The Thatch up the road, even though it is a little pricey and a Devonshire Cream Tea at Fingle Bridge. The on site shop/office provided most essentials but not, I'm afraid to say, a welcoming smile.
It was our 1st stay at a club site and I have to say, we were a little disappointed. Hopefully the owners will learn from their mistakes & go from strength to strength. As for the motto, 'The friendly Club', hopefully it will be apt if you decide to stay there.

The site is a small one belonging to the Club and feels quite nice and cosy with only 60 pitches. The field is long with one track wending round it. There are some mature trees and a large mature hedge protecting the boundaries, with new planting down the middle to define the camping areas. The Reception sells a few essentials.
I can't comment on the gents, but there are only 2 showers for the ladies. There is also a parents room with a toilet, sink & shower sited within the ladies. If the showers were in use, I did find that some ladies used the parent room despite having no children with them - a bit annoying for those of us with children! The toilet block was kept clean, although there is an ongoing problem with the drainage as the block was closed for most of the day we arrived to try to fix this.
The park was bigger than the usual Club park and was popular with the children. The park can also be seen from most pitches which was ideal. The road alongside the site seems to be used as a cut-through and was also popular with bikers. Depending on the wind direction, there is also a lot of noise from the A30.
The nearest shop is about 1.5 miles away where a few pubs are also. Chagford is a lovely large village with 2 Aladdin's Caves shops that sell practically everything. The River Dart park is fantastic for families and is about 40 mins away. Castle Drogo is about 5 mins away. The moors themselves are about 10 mins drive. The site is close to the A30 for easy access to other parts of Devon and Cornwall.

What a smashing little site!
Easy to find (just off the A30) and nicely laid out with caravans around the outside and the tents in the middle. A single one way track serves the entire field and the five miles an hour speed limit was respected throughout our stay.
We were pitched right next to the swing park, this was our choice, and the equipment was well maintained and very popular as was the small games room which had a slightly tired pool table and a table football game. There were a few second hand books and magazines available in here too as well as an original 1981 video game! That took me back.
The toilet block was small but well looked after and there was always plenty of hot water, although the disabled facilities were out of order during our visit, and this is really my only major criticism. The shower button only holds in for seven seconds of hot water and that is not long enough for a lather and a rinse! Most frustrating.
The shop was small and newspapers needed to be ordered in advance but the franchisee's who ran the place could not be more friendly and hard-working, Janet and her husband (sorry Sir, I did not get your name)were constantly on the go but nothing was too much trouble for them, very nice people indeed.
Not much locally in the way of shops though, we drove to Oakhampton for supermarkets, bizarrely there are three large supermarkets next door to each other and on a couple of occasions for some take-away food. Our favourite was Wongs, which is on the hill into town and I can thoroughly recommend the duck with mushroom, and all the pubs seemed reasonably friendly.
The walk to Drewsteignton is lung suckingly steep and is a very very long 'mile' from the site, also not much in the way of lighting, so we did not manage the very highly rated Drew Arms.
Loads of walks from here, the Two Moors Way runs just a few hundred yards from the site entrance, and the Teign Valley is gorgeous. Chagford is a must as well.

Barley Meadow has recently been acquired by Janet & Barry Payne and is now run as a Camping and Caravanning Club Franchise site.
The site already has a very good reputation and should only improve as a result of this change of ownership. Janet and Barry are extremely friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble for them. They have good local knowledge which is always a great help.
This already excellent site is currently being updated with additional water and electric points and the disabled facilities also appear to be in the process of modernisation. More landscaping is underway even though this is already a pretty site.
The facilities are probably on the small size with only 3 showers in both the ladies and gents facilities. However they are spotlessly clean, modern and well maintained. There is a small shop/reception - fresh pots of coffee available - a play room and play area for kids. The pitches are well proportioned with both hard standing and grassy pitches all of which are very spacious so you do not feel cramped at all.
The site is located on the North East edge of Dartmoor with easy access from the A30 and is ideally situated with plenty to do in the area.
Whatever your interest this site has something within a few miles and should make a great base for whatever rocks your boat.
During our stay we visited Castle Drogo the UK's youngest castle and one of many National Trust sites in the Area. Also from Castle Drogo there are 6 well signposted walks of varying lengths and difficulties with many other walks well documented all across Dartmoor.
If you are into horse riding we can recommend Easlake Riding Stables which is only a 15 minutes drive away. Eastlake offers 1 and 2 hour rides as well as half and full days. No matter what your horse riding abilities are you will be well looked after by friendly and safety concious instructors. We particularly enjoyed a ride out onto the moor in a small group and despite the wind and rain the views were spectacular and very enjoyable.
If you don't want to cook every night we can recommend the Red Lion at Tedburn St Mary's - again only 10 minutes drive away. This wonderful viliage pub served cold beer with a very warm welcome. The food is excellent and you can dine in the bar, the restaurant or even order a takeaway.
Barley Meadow sits between Exeter and Oakhampton both of which have their charm and history. We found a 50's style 'diner' in Oakhampton where we enjoyed a nice cup of tea and toasted teacakes - half expected the Fonz to walk in at any moment!
All in all our stay at Barley Meadow and the local area was wonderful with everyone welcoming, helpful and friendly. There is so much to do and see in the area we will be returning to this lovely little site without a doubt.

This was such a good site that we had a decent holiday despite one of the worst summers of constant rain we can remember.
Facilities were excellent, good clean hot showers and plenty of washing up space with more hot water. Family facilities were good too with a separate bathroom and baby bath available. The facility block was even pleasantly landscaped in.
The playground was excellent and there was a small games room as well. The owners are very friendly and helpful and teh shop is well stocked with what you need. We also took advantage most mornings of the cafetieres and croissants on offer.
Fantastic location though quite unsheltered from the dreadful weather we had as you are virtually on the moor! This did mean the most outstanding views and wonderful walks, plus Castle Drogo was a v short drive away and well worth seeing.
All in all wouldn't hesitate to recommend this site

What a fantastic site this is, Paul the owner is one of the friendliest people I've ever met nothing too much trouble always smiling and the site was in top condition spotless through-out,showers always hot never had to queue. Playground for the kids our son was never bored while we were there. How often can you say that!
They have a small shop on site where you can pre-order tea coffee and hot snacks for the morning which is a nice touch,also fire pits for hire for £5. Although it rained every day we were there we still had a really good time lots to see and do locally
10/10 to Paul for all his hard work it really does make a difference, we will be going back without doubt.
