A lovely site with excellent customer service. Toilet and Shower Facilities exceptionally clean and of a high quality. Fully equipped laundry room which also has a freezer for all campers to use. Games room has pool table, table football and books etc, there is also a playground. Enthusiastic owners with good local knowledge. Shop in reception stocks basics and the pre-ordered freshly baked croissants are a nice treat for breakfast! Pub and Shop in next village - Cheriton Bishop. Chagford is worth a visit, lovely chocolate box village with local shops and a variety of places to eat. Nearest main town is Okehampton about 7 miles away, has Waitrose and Somerfield Supermarket if you need some supplies. Ideally placed for walking in Dartmoor. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this site.

I'm tempted to say this campsite was awful if only to stop others going! In reality it was really lovely - everything you could want. Small, but not cramped, great children's playground and playroom and clean toilets. Paul and Cath are the most amazing hosts - so kind and helpful and keen to ensure your stay is perfect. The morning croissants were gorgeous and it was very handy being able to hire bbqs and buy charcoal etc in the shop. We didn't notice the fantastic views but that might have been our position - but it didn't matter - the site was very conveniently placed to visit some lovely places and explore the countryside. And the proximity to Okehampton made shopping for treats in Waitrose a doddle! We had dreadful weather whilst we were there and appreciated the 'batten down the hatches' warning from Paul the night of gales and rain! And our pitch drained well so it wasn't too bleak!
Would definitely recommend it and will definitely go back - if there's any room after leaving this review!

This is a lovely site with very good facilities. We visited over the Bank Holiday together with our daughter and family. The two pitches were ready for us when we arrived and we were quick to order the coffee and croissants for the next morning. The site was full and busy but we had a lovely welcome. Our grandson soon found the pool table in the games room while we took advantage of the hot showers. The field was immaculate and we had a handy but small dog walk behind us which our westie approved of. There are lots of lovely pubs to eat in close by and many places to visit. On the edge of Dartmoor and just off the A30, it is easy to get to. We had the advantage of very good weather and it was good to see the children enjoying the good playground on site. There is a shop on site selling essentials and we found Okehampton a very good and interesting place to shop. We will definitely return to this site possibly at a less busy time but can recommend it anytime.

This has got to be one of the nicest sites that I have ever stayed at! We booked quite late and managed to secure the last tent pitch, so I was expecting it to be quite cramped. Not at all. It was very spacious and the pitch was easily big enough. The owners were extremely accommodating, even reserved us pain au chocolat (or however it's spelt!) for breakfast. They had BBQ pits for hire, which many people had taken them up on (I had brought my own but would have hired one!) and the shop was not at all over-priced, as you would usually expect. The shower blocks were clean and big enough for a site of this size. There was also a games room, which I didn't check out, but kept all of the kids occupied. We were visiting a friend in Exeter, so weren't really that bothered about where we ended up staying as long as it was close to the city, but I would certainly visit this site again on its own merit.

Stayed here for a few days in July. The space allocated for tents is very generous, not too near anyone else. The toilets and showers are excellent, we did not have to queue for any of the showers at any time despite in being July. There is plenty of hot water and the blocks are cleaned often. There is a good play area for children as well as a games room. The campsite owners were very helpful, with tips of where to go for lunch, I would recommend going to the Fingle Bridge which feels like it's in the middle of nowhere but the pub serves an excellent lunch and there are lovely walks along the river. The owners were also kind enough to lend us an extension lead for the electric as ours would not reach the power point. There is a Mace/Spar shop about two miles away which is well stocked which is good as the next place with any other shops is 10 miles away in Exeter or Oakhampton which is 10 miles in the other direction. This campsite is great for touring Devon and not to far to go to visit the fishing villages in Cornwall, Fowey and Polperro are well worth a visit. All in all an excellent Campsite, I would definitely go there again.

This is a fantastic little campsite with the friendliest and most welcoming owners I have met anywhere. The emphasis is on peaceful simple camping, with just a small children's play area and a little on site shop stocking essentials and local produce. It's a family friendly site but we also found it to be perfectly gay friendly - in fact the only people not so warmly welcomed were those making an awful lot of noise very late at night. Having said that it definitely wasn't a stuffy atmosphere, just pro-consideration. The site is relatively small but with enough space between pitches to avoid feeling intrusive. It's situated on the top of a hill on the edge of Dartmoor, the views are stunning but pack an extra fleece!
Despite hot sunny days there was still ground frost at night. Happily campfire equipment is available for hire, stylish blacksmith designed metal containers, wood and kindling are all provided and made for some really cosy evenings. The fresh coffee and pastries you can order for breakfast were lovely. The shower block is immaculate (if small) and the owners work extremely hard to keep it that way. The local pub in Drewsteignton is a couple of miles walk and well worth it - the atmosphere is cheery and the food is really good. There are lots of lovely villages with good pubs nearby and some of the most devastatingly beautiful bits of Dartmoor. The only downside during our stay was a series of *(see below) power cuts* which resulted in a lack of hot water on a couple of days. However the owners worked so hard to sort this out and were so keen to make sure we had everything we needed without disturbing us that even this didn't spoil our trip.
I'll definitely be going back and I'd recommend it to anybody - Barley Meadow deserves to do well, the owners really do go the extra mile.
*Response from site owner
Unfortunately this was due to a transformer failing - not our fault - but we have upgraded our electric supply by an extra phase to prevent this happening in the future - we have effectively doubled our power supply. Since then we've had no problems and over May Bank Holiday we were full - so please be assured this wont happen again

What a welcome ! The owners can't do enough to help- Paul even booked us a table at the pub and collected us later on for the princely sum of £3 ! Very child friendly and clean. A lovely setting in a fantastic area of Dartmoor. We loved our stay here and would recommend it to any one.

What a lovely site and what fantastic hosts Paul and Cath are. This site must rank amongst the best we have stayed on. It has a lovely clean bright spacious shower block where the water is always hot and includes a separate disabled room with all facilities. The shop is very reasonable and the fresh bread / croissants and peculated coffee delivered to the tent is just brilliant ! They have a little summer house packed to bursting with books and magazines to borrow. The middle of the site has a children's play area with a sand pit and plenty of outdoor toys for toddlers, all the children seem to be having a wonderful time, for the older ones there is a games room with a pool table and table football. The site is well laid out with plenty of colourful bushes and flowers. Paul seem to be running around everywhere helping everybody out and taking an interest in what you where doing and giving helpful advise when needed. The views across to Dartmoor are stunning ! So if you are on your way to Cornwall and looking for an overnight stop just off the A30, 10 miles from Exeter we don't think you can better this site.

One of the best sites we have been to! Cath and Paul are new owners this year and are really trying to make the site as they would want it. Spotlessly clean toilets, wonderfully friendly atmosphere, helpful hosts and freshly baked croissants for breakfast - who could want more. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely clean and friendly site. The owners can not do enough to welcome you. Good flat pitches with plenty of space. Toilet block very clean . The owners make a yummy cream tea that you can have under a giant gazebo ! Will return just for the friendly morning smiles from the owners ...oh and the taste of the scones!
