August 2005 Have just come back from a fantastic break at this lovely site. Hardly recognise from previous reviews!! The new toilet/shower block is one of the cleanest I've ever seen and free. Excellent laundry facilities and free ice block freezer. We went with 3 other families and the pitches were all big. The swimming pool was excellent and there was plenty of space for the kids to run around and play games in. The bar was comfy and welcoming to families. The games room had plenty to keep the older children happy. The tarka trail is just off the site and well worth a walk or cycle. The only down side to this site is that they don't serve food or have a well stocked shop. Great Torrington is only a short drive away but there are no big shops there either - take your food store!!

July 2005 We visited this campsite with friends and found it to be very relaxed and friendly. The pool was ideal for the children and access to the tarka trail excellent. The site itself was clean and tidy and the new toilet block was lovely and very clean at all times.

August 2005 We have just returned from a 3 night camping trip at Smytham Manor, and found it to be a real hidden gem. The facilities are excellent (must have been newly installed since the last review). There are only 3 showers in each of the mens and ladies block, but we were the only people using them on each occasion and the water was lovely and hot. The camp wasn't at all over crowded, and we were pitched in the walled garden which overlooked the lovely (but cold!) outdoor swimming pool, which kept the kids occupied while we chilled out (August, yet pool was nearly always empty). The grounds are just stunning, with beautiful lakes to walk around with very friendly ducks, and a lovely walk through the dog walking field past the pony and cows leads straight through the beautiful woods and directly on to the Tarka Trail. It's simply idyllic and a real adventure for the kids. Only used the family room at the bar on one evening, and again it was not at all busy and the kids were just happily playing in the games room and exploring the grounds. Wonderful place - will definitely be returning.

August 2004 This site sounded lovely on the web site. Wonderful setting, out door pool etc.
We arrived in our 6m caravan to find that out of the 25 acre site all vans were well and truly squashed into a small terraced area with no view at all. Access to the terraced area was very difficult. The angle we needed to get around a tree to get out was impossible and we only managed to leave because a touring spot on the bottom terrace had been vacated.
The electrics were very sensitive and we couldn't even use our fridge unless we put it on gas (never had a problem on any other site).
The pitches were tiny.
The toilet block was awful. Not clean, very old and limited. The hairdryer was rusty!! You had to pay 20p for a shower which was meant to last 5 mins. It lasted about 2 and even then the hot water turned to cold before it switched off completely. You were then asked to clean out the shower you had used with a mop and bucket filled with filthy water.
The grounds are indeed lovely but do not in any way compensate for the poor facilities. You very much get the impression that the owners want you tucked out of the way. This is the first time I have had cause to complain about a site like this, very disappointing indeed. Fellow campers around us concurred with our concerns. I would not recommend at all.

July 2003 We took a large tent (12 man wynnster field hotel). The pitches were arranged in terraces and we just managed to fit ours into the very sloping area. Car had to go in front of tent and prevented the people on the end pitch from leaving!
Showers were only 2.5 mins long for 20p and not especially hot in the mens(so says my hubby). However the site is beautiful and the pool area is well situated. We took bikes and used the tarka trail a couple of days,a beautiful sight. Puffing Billy pub a couple of miles down the track serves a good meal and has a garden with kids play area, well worth a visit!
The site has a launderette and bar which serves food on selected days/times. Kids play area outdoor and table tennis outdoor, inside a small kids amusement room, two pool tables and a couple of games machines. Alongside the bar a family room.
