My husband and I have had our caravan on a seasonal pitch at Yarwell Mill for the last 5 years. The atmosphere in the park has improved greatly since the arrival of the park wardens. They are a great couple and a credit to the site. Last weekend they put on a party in the park with a hog roast, bbq music etc. There was a great atmosphere and we all had a lovely time.
The only problem is I feel embarrassed when visitors in tents and tourers are made to pay 20p, on top of their site fees, for a shower that is usually cold, in a poor outdated sanitary block.

Here are some things visitors to the site should be aware of. Firstly the shop, yes as a shop it is a joke but David and Maureen (the managers) only ever aim to stock essentials. They are aware that in Nassington there is a Londis mini market which sells everything and this shop supports the shopkeepeer and his family, the managers are not in the business of competing.
Secondly access, access is no problem at all, the bridge is 11'6' wide and if you can't get your outfit over it you've no business driving one.
Thirdly, the toilet block. Yes it is dated but it's clean and functional, though I would agree that 20p for a five minute shower doesn't represent value for money. The problem here seems to be that most of the vans on the site are either statics or semi permanent tourers so most of them have their own facilities that leaves about 8 pitches for tourers, I can see the reluctance of the owners to invest, however if they want the site to go from strength to strength, they will have to eventually bite the bullet.
Finally a word about the managers David and Maureen. These are two committed people dedicated to making your stay as carefree as possible. They are working hard to turn this site around, they know what's required but they have a limited budget and do a fantastic job.
Incidentally there are no facilities on site for children, this is deliberate, this is a chilled relaxing site.

A site well worth a stop over. A beautiful and picturesque spot on the river Nene, moorings and flowing weir. Follow the bridleway over the fields to the well preserved Yarwell Victorian station visited by the Nene valley steam railway, a great way to spend an afternoon!
Extremely friendly and accommodating wardens also made for an enjoyable stay. No cafe on site though, so no cooked brekkie unless doing it yourself! The Angel Inn, just a short walk up the road is a comfortable and friendly village pub which also hosts it's own rock festival twice a year so pick your visit with that in mind. We also enjoyed the afternoon tea offered by the village hall on a Sunday afternoon, very reasonable!

Spent weekend here, June 2012, & it was great.
OK, the toilet block is dated, but really clean, & yes its 20p for a shower, but they were hot & long lasting. There is a small bridge to cross, but our Galaxy & 21ft Van went over easily, shouldn't be driving if you cant get across here, seriously, nothing to worry about.
Fields seemed well drained, despite the wet weather, no muddy bits. We tried the Angel Inn in nearby Yarwell village, & had a really warm welcome, cant comment on the food but beers great.
Supermarkets in PBoro 20min drive, as is a huge fishing tackle shop (Sheltons) if you forget any tackle to fish the Nene or lake on site.
Free fishing to those stopping on site, don't forget your rod licence. Wardens are very helpful
All in all, a very nice site, & will be returning.

Me and my family spent Jubilee Weekend here and although the campsite is very quite and beautiful the facilities are really poor. First of all the shop if you want to call it that was a joke which is really bad as there is not really a decent store nearby to go to.
The toilet/shower block is so dated it belongs in the 70's. You have to pay 20p to use the showers and you will be lucky if you get hot water. At around £30 per night we should have this cost included not an addition! The block is cold and dark and a real put off and in desperate need of updating.
The worst part of this campsite is the entrance and exit which is tight for my liking. I have a sterling eccles sport 24ft long being pulled by volvo s80 and getting past the mill itself was tricky but once past that you have to quickly manoeuvre to get over the little bridge to get onto the campsite. If you have another vehicle coming the other way then you are in trouble if you are not use to pulling a caravan and if you cannot reverse then you are in a world of pain.
The electric kept going off over the week end and they blamed the weather which could of bee the reason however the other pitches had electric where those on mill pond pitches 1 - 4 didn't. I would not recommend this site to anyone until the owners spent a good deal of money making it more appealing.

Fabulous campsite in a lovely area, visited for the jubilee. Despite wet weather campsite very pretty and well laid out. Surrounding area had delightful walks and villages.
Chip van ideal despite queues as everything was cooked fresh and not too expensive either.
Toilet block clean and tidy not very big and understand comments about temperature of water not too hot if visited later and comments about paying 20p. Wardens very helpful electric did trip a few times as could not cope with too many items in one go.
Positives outweigh negatives and would recommend to others and would use again

Very friendly welcome from the wardens. We were able to pitch in our favourite place. Park really quiet, beautiful surroundings. So many water birds to look at and passing barges. Loch Fyne at Elton is 5 mins drive and worth a visit. We also got half price on Nene Valley railway which is a great day out, a 10 minute walk and my 2 year old loved it. There is a chip van on Saturday but we haven't sampled it yet! The toilet block was always really quiet (deserted) probably could do with a spruce up but more than adequate. Very good for people wanting some piece and quiet. We are counting the days until we can go back.

The site is set in beautiful surroundings. The lake, canal and mill are all great features.
However for those people in tents it is not a great site for a number of reasons.
The camping and rally field are a good walk from the toilet and shower block. Which although clean and tidy desperately need updating.
Especially the hot water system. When we pay £18+ per night I do not expect to have to pay for a shower and to add insult to injury a shower so cold I could not get in. We had been warned by the wardens that the immersion heater fitted had to supply all the hot water for the showers, sinks and the pot washing area. Obviously it is not up to the job.
The owners would do well to invest in a toilet block for tent area and a more suitable hot water system for the showers.
On the plus side the field is very flat and well drained.
The surrounding area has many places of interest and we would recommend taking the steam train from yarwell station to peterborough.
The station is 15mins walk and people staying on the camp site get a 50% discount. The Angel pub in the village is also a 15min walk and is welcoming with the usual beers and a selection of real ales. They do food which smelt nice, we only tried the chips. Live music on a saturday night and a quiz most sundays. But they are not open on a Monday
However I doubt we will be returning to the site

We just spent 2 lovely quiet nights at Yarwell Mill making the most of the weather. Be sure to arrive via Mill Road and not through Yarwell village. We got a very friendly and helpful welcome to the site which is very clean and picturesque with the lake, River Nene, lock and the surrounding fields. The place is ideal for fishing and the number of touring caravans on seasonal pitches indicates just how popular the site is for quiet water sports of many types.
There are many local walks that are clearly identified and a 10 min stroll takes you to Yarwell Junction on the Nene Valley Railway which runs to Peterborough and you get 50% off if you take the campsite booking form with you making our round trip for 2 with the dog on a lovely steam train a very reasonable £15. The church and Cathedral in Peterborough are well worth a visit, make sure you walk all the way round the cathedral as many treasures are at the back and side.
Nassington is a pleasant 20 minute walk away and has 2 pubs, we treated ourselves and ate at the Queens Head Inn where the food and service were excellent and the Black Horse at the end of the village was offering meal deals for families and early eaters. The Nassington Londis shop is well stocked including some hardware, gave very friendly and helpful service and has a Post Office in it as well. Many of the villages in the area and Oundle are well worth a visit for their historical interest and beauty.
The showers and toilets on site are adequate and very clean but could really do with updating to match other sites we have visited that charge similar rates and large parts of the site are quite a walk from the single block of facilities, looking around I would think touring visitors have to book well ahead at popular times to get hook up but don’t let that put you off if you would like a quiet countryside break in a lovely part of the country Yarwell Mill is well worth considering.

Very quiet and peaceful and there are no set pitches so you can pitch near to your friends in a group. Toilets and showers are a bit of a walk from most areas that are used for camping and could do with updating and cleaning.
I don't believe this is very good value for money as there is nothing there and the facilities need updating. You have to pay for the showers and the pitch price only includes 2 Adults so if you have children and dogs expect to now pay £26+ per night since the new owners took over. In my opinion I would not go here again at that price and we were frequent visitors as there are lots of campsites around whit more facilities for less money. Those which are comparable on price have way more facilities and far more on the site. A more reasonable cost per night would be £10 per night and maybe a little extra for dogs if you don't want the electric hook up.
