We stayed here over Easter 2007 - mainly because all the other sites were full! The site was very busy whilst we were there. The pitches are very very close to one another.

The owners are a little scary, and I would not like to get on the wrong side of them! We adhered to all the rules issued to us prior to arrival. However, we did not get off to a very good start as we arrived late (9pm) and in the dark! This did not seem to please them one bit! Once we had all got over that, they were pleasant enough.

The road was very noisy, and I agree with a previous review, a constant droan.

The children enjoyed the play area. The showers and toilet block are clean and well maintained.

The site is well located if you are interested in Day trips to Forest of Dean and Wye valley. We would stay here again - but would try other sites first!

Went to this campsite for 2 nights lovely campsite toilets and showers nice and clean. Owners very friendly. All one way system round the campsite and 5mp so its kids friendly.
Nice kids playground complete with sandpit. We going bank holiday weekend.

Smashing little campsite , had read previous reviews and was a little reluctant at first but decided to try it out for ourselves. Glad we did as we found the five days we spent there very lovely!Nice and clean toilets and shower block ,which we were pitched quite close to, but not too close! Residents of the site were very friendly. The lady who we reported to at reception was very friendly and really tried to ensure our friends who were travelling down the next day could pitch next to us.
The only moan we did get was when our friends came down and had parked their car the wrong way ,oh and we were sat at a picnic bench by our tent and was told to put it in the middle because its for everyone to use! (there were about six off them!) That was soon forgotten about though and we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our visit.
We were very lucky with the beautiful weather! We would definitely recommend this site but just make sure you read the rules and adhere to them first!

We went to this campsite for one night with a group of friends. We turned up and checked in individually, and told the owners that we would be expecting another friend to arrive later in the day.

We went into Monmouth for a few hours and met up with our friend who then came back to the campsite with us. He drove into the campsite to drop off his car and then walked back to reception to pay. At this point the owner made him go back and get his car after paying, and once he had driven out of the park he refused to let him back in to the site and kicked him off as he had broken one of the rules. The owner then marched down to see us and threetened to kick us off as we had let our firend in. He drove in behind us, so how were we supposed to stop him.

Nice camp site, but I/we found the owner to be the rudest, most obnoxious person I have ever had the misfortune to come across. He has no idea of customer service and does not realise he operates in a service industry. There are so many rules and regulations to abide by in this site that you need to study them to doctorate level before you get there. Anyone who has stayed at other campsites in the past will be appalled at the way this site is run and the attitude of the owner.

Hi, My family stays at Glen Trothy several times a year an find it a well run site. There may be rules to adhere to but this ensures everyone gets a safe and harmonious holiday. We found the owner professional and friendly, the park and facilities clean and well attended. It seems there are many seasonal tourers, however when I spoke with one of these he suggested that without their steady annual income many sites would not be able to continue. Beautiful area to explore Monmouth, Forest of ~Dean and Herefordshire. We love it and will regularly visit again

On first glimpse, this was a lovely site for tents. The river running behind, the trees, the sweet mown grass etc. It was after a few minutes that the A40 and feeder road made itself heard and didn't stop until we left 2 days later. What a shame! Still we enjoyed our stay. I detected some fuss from the owners about Barbecues being 2 ft above the ground and they give you a plan of how your pitch should be arranged, with your car in front - nice view! Beware also those with these pod style family tents. They will charge you for another pitch because they don't fit on their pitches!!!

The shower situation obviously hasn't changed. the one time I did take a shower I put in the 20p and it went through and nothing happened. I mentioned it to the owners when we left so I wondr if anything has been done about that. There was no notice on the door to say out of order which was a bit out of order on their part!! (It's the first one on the left by the way!)

Wouldn't go back mainly because of the road noise which is relentless!

No nearby facilities but would recommend a trip to the Clytha Arms, a short taxi ride away - it is a fantastic pub/restaurant. Well worth a visit if you're into real ale.

A very nice site. Cavavans (some sited) are in a separate field from tents. Pitches are very level and the scenary stunning. But...and it is a very big but, the owners need to sharpen their people skills, and make sure you read the rule book, especially the small print!!! Saying that I will go again, just don't get on the wrong side of the owner!!

We visited Glen Trothy over the busy bank holiday weekend when they were almost completely full. The owners had kindly slotted us in at short notice but we were glad that a few others had cancelled as the pitches are close together and it did get noisy late at night. (in fairness, it was the weekend of the football playoffs in cardiff and there were several people on the campsite in high spirits who had been to the matches!) The site has a small river running down the side which gave a lovley relaxed feel although you could still hear the A40

The site was well maintained although by Monday 1 of the 3 showers was out of order but still accepting your 20p - it would have been nice to see an "out of order" sign to save the hassle of walking back to the tent to get another 20p and queue again! It was a welcome change to be at a site where you can wash your dishes indoors.

The owners were ok and helpful to us but did mention rules on bbq's. They had organised a charity day on site with food, beer and events for guests which seemed to go down well.

We were disappointed that the local pub was boarded up as it was a 40 minute walk into Monmouth and there was no bus service on the sunday or bank holiday monday evenings. It was worth the walk though as Monmouth is a nice town and a great base for exploring the area. There are no village shops for essentials but again Monmouth is fine with a good size Waitrose, decent curry restaurant and nice pubs eg wetherspoons. Overall it was a reasonable site for a couple with a tent but I would probably choose a site closer to some evening facilities.

Site is quaint set in woodlands, small old fashioned toilet facilities, 20p a short 5 min shower, enough time to refresh though.

Pitches are small(ish), only an 8ft space for an awning. Location superb for Monmouth and wye valley. Lots of static (tourers) which are for seasonal guests, with some friendly (& some not so friendly)occupants.

Awkward Entrance & exit to the site - very steep incline/decline and tight turn onto main rooad - Large car & 17ft (internal) van about as big a unit as could cope.

Reverse onto pitch tight due to parking for 'Statics' - so you'll get hassled into NOT reversing. However, I found reversing the best option as slight slope onto pitch, so you keep your traction on the road !!

Owners not so friendly, but each to their own, some sites they are, some they're not.

No near by PUB & BBQ's not favoured unless like we did, agreed with owner beforehand. - disposible BBQ's will not be allowed, beware campers !!!

Little bit expensive for a family, as everything extra from pitch fee (ie, kids, 1 dog, awning etc). But for 2 adults & a car/van / electrics is about normal.........

No dog facilities, off site only, nice area to walk in but the main Bridal path (preferred route) leads to a couple of houses !!!

Nice clean well kept site. However, on a recent visit with my family and neighbours, we found the owners very abrubt and unfriendly.

Although dogs are charged for on the site, please beware if your dog likes to play as you will be shouted at. We were the only two caravans on the field and on one occasion my dog's football exited the awning and we received a verbal threat and was talked about quite rudely to the seasonal pitchers.

Monmouth lovely, but we will not visit this site again. Oh and the pub nearby has been shut for 4 years and boarded up.
