After many attempts to book a camp site for the weekend we got booked in to Dale bottom in the tent field. We arrived late so we just drove in and picked a spot. The field was a bit bumpy but ok. This is a great site to go to if your in a group who want to sit outside drinking and making lots of noise until late, they even let single sex groups on. There were lots of people with camp fires and bbqs. Not a good site if you want peace and quiet but we did go on a busy hot weekend and by 2pm on sunday it was a lot quieter so it would prob be ok mid week. Toilets and showers ok but small as were dish washing sinks.
Overall a nice site not far from Keswick ideal for groups as some sites I rang have a no noise policy after 10pm (good for oldies and kids but no good if your away to enjoy yourself) and to the fat man who snored all night. Yes you did keep us all awake all night thats why we moved our tent across to the other side of the field the next day

Arrived at Castlerigg Farm at 8:00pm on Fri 14th, tired and hot; we were informed by a very nice lady that the site was full due to the good weather, gospel convention and school holidays in Scotland, the other Castlerigg campsite nearby was also full. She suggested we try Dale Bottom down the road. We got onto this campsite no problem, and even though a ‘Park Full’ sign went up later that evening, people were still allowed on the site over the weekend. The scenery was fantastic, the small shop well stocked, facilities well maintained but not very clean and the 20p showers were cold, even though the weather was in the 90’s the showers felt like the water was coming straight off the mountain, I was told they couldn't cope with the volume of people and cut out after 2 hours. The water from the hand basins was very hot. My first hot shower was on Monday morning when only 8 tents were left. There was no discipline on the site; large groups of noisy lads stayed up all night (we like Pink Floyd but not at 5am) and the groups of girls were as bad, litter thrown everywhere, dogs running around. If you want to avoid the mayhem go midweek, it really is a lovely site, we had one tranquil day on the Monday, it’s also a convenient base for Keswick. We did a 12 mile walk over the hills on one side of Derwent water and down through the woods on the other side, the views were great. A Taxi from the site into Keswick costs £6; we paid the same on our return journey after a good night out in the bars.

August 2004 Due to it being bank holiday, had trouble getting into most sites around Keswick. However stumbled across this one, and was pleasantly surprised. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The toilet and shower facilities are basic but kept clean (you have to pay 20p for showers and washing up water). There are plenty good walks in area, but due to weather wasn't practical (having small children with us). The nearest pub was a good walk, but there is a bus service that runs on a hourly basis from outside site. Would go back.

August 2004 Idyllic setting amidst beautiful scenery but the solitary toilet and shower block was very basic and showers often cold. Ladies toilet often ran out of toilet paper and could have been a little cleaner. There were only two old sinks in the washing up area, which meant there were always queues. Tent field entrance became very muddy in wet weather. If the owners were to build a new modern toilet and shower block and campers kitchen, it would greatly improve this campsite as it is in a wonderful location.

July 2003 Well please in finding this place, only because all the other sites in Keswick were flooded out for tents. This site was fine. Lovely peaceful setting, nice local walks to be had from the site, plenty of room between tents, electric hook up, friendly and helpful owners. Hot Showers and toilets etc, was basic but kept clean, even had a small shop. Got bussier only over the nice weekends then empty by Sunday afternoon, and a few miles from town.
