Stayed here when it was wet, no hard standing but found a hard bit of grass I didn't sink. Toilets all clean with hot water. Site has a clubhouse, looked ok from outside had a band on but was too wet to get out the van. Didn't use the outdoor pool but it to looked clean. Site is about 5/10 minutes from Fintry. Found the owners and warden helpful. Found the price a bit steep at £23 a night I'm not saying I wouldn't go back as I think it would be nice in the summer.

Balgair is a great site right in the country but not too far away from Stirling. The castle and Wallace monument are a great visit
The site was only just accepting tents once again after being a van only site for a time. Tent facilities weren't up to a great deal, the stand pipes were a good walk away and the toilet block a bit tired. Only one shower (free), there was never a queue for the shower and the cubicle was nice and big. The dish-washing facilities were also a good walk away. We just washed our at the tent.
The EHU was a good 30m away from our pitch (an old static hook up on another pitch), the site pre warned us about this which allowed us to buy an extension on the way up. We were still short though! The site manager was very helpful and summoned the boss, they very kindly sought another extension for us, they couldn't do enough for us. They also gave us a bag of ice for nothing on the Saturday for free.
They are doing a lot of work on site and I expect the tent area which was nice and spacious to improve soon enough.
There was a nice little clubhouse which was good. Live entertainment on Saturday nights which goes on until closing time, it didn't stop our young kids sleeping through the noise of the singer. So no worries there.
An on site takeaway was welcome on the Friday night after setting up.
It was also hot enough to use the outside heated pool! Great park for kiddies with plenty equipment, which is right next the the tent area which is always good with young kids looking to go and play at every opportunity.
All in all a great site only just welcoming back tents. Improvements required but it didn't detract from a nice stay at a very friendly Balgair.

We stayed at this campsite for a long weekend. The site was very nice and it had just been taken over by new owners, who were very nice. The restaurant and bar were good and the food was reasonably priced, which was good. There weren't many places to take the dogs for a walk. The toilet blocks need upgrading as they were cold and the shower rooms were very small and there was no hot water on the Saturday. Overall a good site and we had a good weekend.

July 2005 The previous post by Mrs Dow was not accurate. This was a quiet site with good facilities. Yes there were kids playing about but the noise stopped after 9pm...we were all kids once!! The outdoor pool was very good as were the kids play areas, games room etc. It was a bit restricted for dog walking though. The bar/restaurant was very nice and clean and was reasonably priced although we didn't eat there so cant really comment on quality of food. The only negative point of our stay was that the weather was rather wet and this brought the midges out in force, it was pretty bad, although not the worst we have encountered. Take your midge repellent!!!

June 2005 A very nice friendly campsite. Facilities were very good with an excellent clubhouse. There is evening entertainment on Saturdays but we missed this as we were staying midweek and left on saturday morning. The reataraunt looked reasonable but we didn't use it so cant really comment. I am surprised at the previous comments about this site. Yes there were kids playing about....thats what kids do!! The noise was not excessive and certainly didn't go on all night. As for water taps.....every hook up on te site has its's own water tap and grey waste disposal. Even if camping these would never be that far away. My only gripes are the lack of a decent dog walking area...We were not given a map of the site or a list of site rules and also the roads from Kippen and Fintry were a bait hairy with a Discovery and 20ft of Caravan and we happened to meet the only Lorry on the road at the narrowest point!! Just our luck. Overall It was a pleasant site and we would definitely go back...give it a look, but take some Midge reppellent with you!!

July 2003 I think the review by Mrs Dow was very unfair - a novice camper I feel! Yes it is a lovely campsite. Where Mrs Dow was placed might have been an ideal spot for other campers - next to all amenities. On my visit, yes children were up late & it was a little noisy, but I feel that everyone is entitled to enjoy their holiday - even children. As for the dawn chorus, that's part & parcel of happy camping! The closest water tap to Mrs Dow was probably 50-100 yards away, remember we're camping, there's dishwashing facilities, the shop is as described but does stock more than sweets - milk, rolls, eggs, bacon, but to mention a few items. I found the food to be the opposite of that described. It was tasty, well presented and not at all expensive. I liked this park so much that we are going back again this month

28th March 2003 We checked out the website before we went. As this was our first camping adventure with three children under 7, we thought it looked ideal as it had all the things we were looking for.
We arrived at the site on the Friday afternoon and saw that it was a lovely site. The children loved the play parks and there was flowers everywhere in the little gardens around the chalets.
We were pointed to the tent pitch which was bang in the middle of the caravan site next to the castle ruins, next to the childrens playground, next to the clubhouse. We thought that the site looked quiet and so were amazed to find that this was not the case.
As the night wore on the louder the noise became. Teenagers made a great deal of noise until around 3 in the morning then the wonderful dawn chorus of the birds began!..
This was not the child friendly site we expected!!!. The following day we stumbled about the place half asleep. This experience continued the following night. We prayed for rain so that there wouldnt be so much noise so we could get some sleep and it Rained. We woke refreshed, packed up and went home desperately in need of sleep.
There were no water taps close to us... there were no dishwashing facilities... the shop was a corner off a games arcade full of sweets and not much else... the food in the clubhouse was very poor and very expensive.
All in all we had a disappointing first camping experience. I think that this site is best suited to those who like parties, noise and are sleeping in mobile homes or chalets away from the central area.
