I have to say that it it is stunning. The views are out of this world and the site is nipping clean. We stayed on the Woodland site and the amount of space you have is unreal. All the pitches are hard standing and the electric is 16amp so we never tripped out once.
The shower blocks are so clean and the showers are so powerful. There are hairdryers that are used in salons in the ladies and there is a restaurant and bar on site too. The staff are so friendly and helpful and always give you a wave when your going out for the day.
The surrounding area is simply breath taking and unspoilt. Excellent for bikers and walkers and people who love the water.
We walked to sky space which is a 3 mile walk there and back and the views from the top are just simply beautiful. We would highly recommend this site to anyone.
(Beware of the midges as there is a lot of them near the water)

Stayed for 6 nights, 3 kids under 6 and 2 adults.
Pitched in a woodland pitch, quite dark but lovely to feel part of the forest. Lakeview pitches had beautiful views of the lake and hills, will try to book earlier next time to try to get one of these.
Toilet block was very clean with plenty of toilets and showers. The showers were very powerful and hot. Couple of downsides were that the toilets close from 10.30-12noon for cleaning every day, which proved inconvenient for us as my husband likes a morning cycle and couldn't shower on return and there was no bath or baby / toddler washing facilities, which are always handy with 3 little ones. Most other sites I've been on close one side of the block at a time so that each side is only closed for 45 minutes.
The site is within the Leaplish Water park and has loads to do for families who enjoy the great outdoors. My children are still young so we couldn't take full advantage of the cycling and walks available. Within a minute or two walk are 3 playparks, a jetty to take the ferry round the lake, cycle hire, swimming pool, access to walks and cycle tracks, crazy golf and a bird of prey centre, which my kids loved! There is also a small shop selling the very basics and a pub/ restaurant which we only used for coffee during the day, the menu was uninspiring so we avoided eating there.
There is a co-op in Bellingham which is well stocked but we did find it difficult locating somewhere for families to eat outwith the park. The Pheasant nearby was recommended but didn't start serving until 7pm, which was too late for us, not sure if they take kids, it was very busy when we passed at 7.10pm one night on our way home so that's a good sign.
This is definitely a site we'll be back to, reminded us of a caravanning centre parcs! We were there out of midgie season though, wouldn't like to say how it would be in the summer with those little blighters.

Stayed here for 3 night on august bank holiday, had a great time. Lovely site, quiet and very pretty, Plenty to do, staff very friendly, Great bike rides and walks around the lake. They have a local shop and pub on site, you can also hire dvd, go swimming or take a look at the birds of prey which are all on site. We didn't have a problem with midges as we got plenty of plug in and candles.
Our pitch was uneven and was water logged (British summer for you) but you are allowed too choose you own pitch on arrival.
Could do with more loos, they also shut 10:30 till 12pm which is a bit silly, would be better if it closed in afternoon when people are showered and dressed.
Plenty of wildlife, saw some many rabbits I lost count.
Was muddy at kids play site so take your wellies.
Lovely place will be going again.

Nice site with a helpful warden. Told when booking over the phone (you actually deal with Northumberland Water) that it was not possible to have a pitch with a view over the water. On arrival the warden gave us a choice and we actually got one. Some of the Forest Glade pitches, as they describe them, look very dark because of the number of trees surrounding. There is a restaurant and pub down by the lake about five minutes walk away. Fantastic views over the water from the restaurant but the food is probably amongst the worst we have ever tasted and very expensive at the same time. Its a shame. Having eaten in nearby pubs in the past suggest you get better value and quality off site. Use the restaurant for a drink and snack so you get the views. Importantly, we were also there before the midgies!

This was our 4th visit to this site, we love it, the pitches are big (we have only stayed on the 'Lakeview' pitches mind). The facilities are always spotless and have never had to queue for showers (only 3). Play area down the bank, kids played there all weekend, only returning when hungry!. The shop is well stocked and the pub is nice too. There is an indoor pool which you pre-book, our kids had it to themselves (£2.00 each for 1 hour) The Warden is very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much bother for him. The midgies were just starting to come out at the weekend, but just get Avon So Soft and spray it on early evening and they'll not bother you.

A really excellent site- well maintained and with good facilities. The couple at reception are friendly and helpful with advice about midges (definitely a problem!), cycle routes, TV reception, best routes to various towns and so on. The pitches are level, well spaced there is a choice of woodland or lake view. On reflection, we might prefer the latter since the midges seemed worse in the trees. At the Leaplish visitor centre (a 2 minute walk down the hill) there is an excellent range of extras- a swimming pool, crazy golf, pub, boat hire, fishing permits, ice skating(!), etc. There are lakeside cycle trails (family friendly) and more challenging mountain bike routes in abundance all right on the doorstep. The pub on site was good but uninspiring, the Anglers at Kielder itself did a good lunch but looks a bit done down; the Blackcock at Falstone was better still. The only possible down side was the absence of phone signal for O2 and Vodafone but that's just fine for an 'away from it all' break. Would strongly recommend (even with the midges!)

Had a great weekend here with very helpful and knowledgable wardens. Walks from the site are excellent as are the leisure facilities at the water park reception. Some of the (lake view) pitches only just qualify as having a view of the lake and are not worth the price premium. Even worse, if a better pitch becomes available it will cost you £5 to move! How does that work? Midgies are awful and even after using creams and lotions and citronella candles etc, it is not possible to be comfortable outside.
If you want to be incommunicado it is the perfect place as there is no mobile phone coverage, very little chance of satellite TV, although you can connect to the 4 channel terrestrial TV if you have sufficient cable.
Toilets and showers are excellently maintained as is usual with CC sites.

Lovely site and the most expensive we have found! Heather and Ian are lovely - two of the best and friendliest wardens we have met. The site probably is well over priced as the views can be seen all around the lake.
Bellingham is the nearest descent sized village - but don't underestimate the shops. A high class butcher, a baker and top class Co-op and several great pubs and restaurants - it really is worth visiting to stock up with provisions. There are also 2 banks, a post office, a newsagents and a hardware store - its also one of the prettiest villages in Northumberland so worth the drive down the lake.

Lovely site, terrible weather most of the time when we stayed but no sign of any midges. A very short walk brings you to the Leapish waterside park with a very good indoor swimming pool, shop, childrens play area and ferry trips which unfortunately we never got the time to do and a pub serving excellent meals.
Lovely lakeside walk with sightings of red squirrel and birds. Site up to usual C/C standards with very impressive views of the lake. Not sure if the lakeside view pitches were worth the extra money as you got a view of the lake from most areas of the site. Only draw back we found was that the area is quite isolated and it is 8 miles to the nearest village, Bellingham, where there is a small Co-Op and petrol station. Hexham is approx 50 mins journey. We also visited Alnwick which took about 1hour 20 mins but worth the journey as beautiful scenery, the castle is well worth a visit with special activities for children.

Great site! This has got to be the best site in northumberland however. Only when the midges arn't out so go either, 'march to may' or 'september till closing'. Breathtaking setting. Breathtaking lakeside views (if you get there early enough). Facilities, tip top. Nipping clean! as always caravan club standard, Heather and Ian lovelly wardens. Absolutely everything to do if you're the outdoors type, walking, cycling, fishing, water skiing, or for those of us who are less inclined lake side bar with canny menu. Overlooking kielder water or alternativelly just sit in your caravan and enjoy with a glass or two. Might be wise to take plenty provisions to save having to go out shopping, but bellingham nearby has a small coop. Which has all the necessary. Site even lovelly in the rain!
