This is a great site. It was our first visit to this area, and our first visit to this site. Both are recommended. The site is usual caravan club, but we have been told it reverts to an affiliated site at the end of this season, managed by the Kielder Water company. We had a great weekend walking in the forest and around the shore of the lake. Good trails and good paths. Ideal for bikers, we don't bike, but looked popular and the trails were good. The area seems to have everything for all ages. Boat tours of the lake, water skiing, fishing, bike trails and walking. A short walk from the site is a shop and restaurant, as well as a bird centre, swimming pool, (indoor), and good children's play areas. As for the site, we were warned about the dreaded midges, but as it turned out we only encountered a few, so had no problems with them, but we were probably lucky. The site sells lots of midge control products including plugins and candles. We were lucky to get a lake view pitch, but most pitches are in the woods or behind trees. If you are lucky. Well what can I say, what a view.
My advice. Give the site a try, but go prepared for midges. You will enjoy it.

This site is great. We had six kids and 3 dogs, who loved it. MIDGES were really bad, but didn't stop us from having fun. Leaplish waterside (5 mins walk from campsite) is great for the kids, it has a number of parks and a dry ice rink, mini golf course and an indoor pool. The shop has basic essentials, and has a bar and restaurant. The views from the campsite are gorgeous. There is a co-op in nearby town of Bellingham (approximately 30 mins drive from site). ON SITE there was: shower block which was cleaned regularly and hot water constantly. Laundry room which has a charge for use of washer, dryer, spindryer, iron, ironing board. Veg preparation area. Water and waste facilities. The only problem we had was the weather, which caused a few problems, as it rained while we were there, and we had flooding in the awning. MIDGES and flooding would not stop us from returning here.

Site is in a fantastic location with brilliant views of the reservoir and countryside. The facilities were very well maintained, excellent park located next to site. The site benefits from an indoor swimming pool which is very clean. There was also a reception area which had dvd rental which we found useful. The only downside of this site was the midges which are really bad so go prepared with repellant and citronella candles etc although the shop did sell these if you forgot them! All in all a really nice site but we would not go back as the midges did spoil it for us.

We have just returned from staying at this site & I just wanted to say what a beautiful, peaceful site it is. Our pitch was excellent the toilet & shower block was cleaned to a very good standard although the showers were not very powerful they were clean & hot. The campsite itself was very clean & the couple who booked us in were very nice people & very helpful. The restaurant/pub served excellent homemade food. The surrounding area was lovely for nice walks. Would definitely return although when reading the visitors book I was shocked to see people had wrote it could be closing down, I don't understand why as there is nothing wrong with the campsite it is one of the best I have been to.

We spent 4 nights at the site and had a fantastic stay. The site is very well maintained with excellent, clean facilities and there is lots to do around the area - particularly walking and cycling. There are some fantastic off road cycle paths around the lake and loads of marked walks. No problems with midges at this time of year and we will definitely visit again - out of midge season of course!

Just returned from a 4 day stay. The site is very clean & tidy, lawns well manicured and well managed as were the facilities. The Staff were welcoming, wonderful and extremely informative. You have a choice of open stand or forest stand. The area abounds in wildlife from deer to rabbits and the forest is full of wild birds. The views are magnificent. If you haven't been to stay at Kielder yet then I would urge you to make it your next outing. You won't regret it. Oh, take some insect repellent in summer as the midges can be a bother but only if you are not prepared!

We stopped here on route to our trip up to the Scotish Highlands. We stayed two nights and we found it to be really peaceful (apart from the hassle of the midges) We had been warned about them, but never have we seen the volume/amount as we had on these two days, this was the only bit that spolit our stay. The wife and I had lovely walks in the forest, and along the lakeside edge. The onsite facilities were spotless at all times and again a credit to the Caravan club staff. Both the wardens were very friendly and helpful. We arrived without our usual shopping (didnt want to have the car and van fully loaded as we had a long trip up north so we were hoping to keep the wieght down) so we had to use the shop on site for our basics, then off to Hexham (nearest town- 60 mile round trip) to get the rest of our grub and to top up on fuel as the petrol stn in Keilder was charging £103.00 per litre normal cost at this time was £93.00 mper litre. Would we return? Yes but out the midgey season, and be better prepared next time.

Just returned from our easter break and what a superb site. Large pitches some with view of Kielder water and some in the trees. Excellent facilities never had to leave the site with two children aged 15 and 12 this made a nice pleasant change. Use of the swimming pool which has to be booked in advance for an hour. Lots of lovely walks and cycle routes.P ub and restaurant on site food superb. Fishing also available with a day permit which can be bought at main reception. We will return AGAIN.

Great site! Pitches over looking the water get taken quickly so we ended up amongst the trees. This also seemed to be a quieter area as there are several small 'cul de sacs', but can be a bit dark, you really feel you are in the middle of a forest. Facilities typical of Caravan Club but this site felt less regimented than others we've stayed on. Very short walk to the Lieplish centre with nice bar and good food. Also small swimming pool, you need to book an hourly session. Falconry centre and boat trips here as well and a small shop for essentials. You are a good distance from anywhere although there was a small petrol station at Kielder willage would reccommend filling up at Tesco just off Junction 43 of M6 if travelling this way. Would certainly stay again.

We recently stayed at this site and could not fault it. The staff were very pleasant and as all caravan clubs sites the facilities were very clean. It was only a short walk through the site to the lakeside. It was good for families as there was a swimming pool, just a small one and play area. The restaurant did lovely meals and there was also a shop, it didnt sell a lot but you could get the basics. We would certainly go back again.
