We have mixed feelings about this site. When we arrived we were greeted with 'hello you owe us. ' rather than 'did you have a nice trip and welcome. '

We were booked in for two weeks but left after one. We had rain most of the time. The site is too busy and noisy. The rules say no noise between 11pm and 8am which most people stuck to. Unfortunately we were woken most mornings between 6am and 7am by people being very noisy

The site is in a beautiful setting with stunning views. Unfortunately everyone faces towards the sea view so you are looking at the back of peoples tents, thus making it a very unsociable site.

There is no open area for children to play and my two were very bored in the evenings. There is a games room but there are balls missing from the pool table and you have to buy ping pong balls if you want to use the table tennis. The games room was always in an untidy state when ever we visited it.

The showers are completely inadequate. There are only three showers in the ladies and always a big queue for them. There are nine toilets, so it would make more sense to change two or three of them into showers.

The showers have fixed heads to the wall so you can't rinse them down when you've used them. They always seemed unclean because of this with other peoples hair stuck to the walls. One person told me she showered in her sandals because she didn't like standing on the floor because it looked so unclean. I did see cleaners working hard to keep the place clean but there are too many people and not enough showers.

The site shop was very handy for bread and milk when we had run out. Prices weren't too bad either.

The local beach at Pokerris is lovely with a beach shop, bar and restaurant. You can hire wet suits for the day and even learn to wind surf among plenty more things to do. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Shame the weather wasn't better and we could have spent more time there.

We wont be going back and find it hard to recommend. Beautiful setting but I'm afraid its not for us.

Just returned from this site and found the owners friendly and accommodating. We were allocated a serviced pitch which was flat although most of the camping field is sloping.

The facilities on the serviced pitch were excellent. The site is quiet but you do get some road noise from the A3082 that runs past the site even during the night.

The toilet facilities were ‘well used’ but clean and plenty of hot water for washing and showers. We found the best grocery shopping was to be had at Tescos in St Austell, (about a 12 minute drive from the site)

The view south westerly across St Austell bay is beautiful in good weather but the site is on the top of a hill and totally exposed to the wind and as the prevailing wind is south westerly. In the second half of our week the wind speed went up an up to a full gale and the tent took quite a bashing.

The walking around the site is spectacular and an easy circular walk to Fowey and then along the coast path to Polkerris and back to the site was a delight. Would I return – yes, but with a more sheltered pitch.

I didn't want to leave. The views alone make this site worth visiting. Fowey is beautiful but very steep and getting the mini-bus( which we didn't) is a jolly good idea.

The site is sloping but we found that we just slid down in our sleeping bags a bit in the night and that was really the only problem. The shower block was adequate but we did find toilet paper in short supply on our last morning.

I loved the flowers on the wash basin-what a nice touch. Went to the Eden project, stopped off in St Austell to buy dinner and back to that view.

What more can one ask for? Yes, it's not hitech, but we didn't want that. We will definitely be back to this site. Wish it was next week!

This was our first time staying in a static, and we really enjoyed the space, and comfort it gave us. We chose the smallest type, as it was the cheapest, and it also allowed us to take the dog with us. I couldnt fault it, it was spotlessly clean, and had everything you could need.

The views from the van, and site are stunning, and the dog walk is through a very natural meadow where you can let your dog run around.

A small reception selling a few items, and the warden, and owner are friendly, and helpful, down to changing our fridge within 10 mins as it was,nt working.

The nearest eating house The Rashleigh Arms on Polkerris beach do lovely meals, and if you use the pub you can park behind it, saves walking from the carpark about quarter of a mile away [ uphill on the way back ]

The nearest dog friendly beach is Parr sands about 3 miles away, nice big beach, shame about the clay factory at the end of the shoreline.

Fowey is a beautiful little town, but very hilly, you can catch a minibus from the carpark though, which we found out after the climb back up ! the little train ride round Fowey is well worth it for seeing all the interesting places.

Shame the weather was,nt the best, as I could have spent the days just sitting outside the caravan soaking up the view, and the wine of course.

Stayed here August 2010 2 adults 2 kids. Lovely site with hook ups on flat pitches. Amazing views as everyone else has said, our stay was mainly dry too, we walked to polkerris lovely but it was a trek but our kids managed it in about 20 mins but it feels a lot longer (aged 7 and 9)

We also walked to Fowey, Fowey is amazing really want to return again, out children crabbed over the harbour for hours and loved it, regatta week has a lovely atmosphere to the town, the walk was about 35 mins, very hilly, we caught the bus when we needed to go in after trying the walk once.

The let down for us was the toilets/showers, they were old and dirty, and really weren't cleaned often enough,(i did see a lady cleaning so I know they were cleaned!) water collected where you undressed, there wasn't much space to hang things, they were small and there was only 3 showers, my husband said the mens weren't any better either.

Personally clean showers and toilets are important to us and we wouldn't return only because of this if they could improve the shower block we would be back.

We visited Penhale for 2 nights (minus the kids this time). We went with friends who had been before and we were't disappointed, as it was as described by our friends.

The views really are beautiful !

The site itself was farly basic, but exactly what we wanted. Very clean and tidy, the toilets were clean even though it was another wet and muddy weekend, and the showers had plenty of hot water.

As mentioned by others, the pitches were rather sloped so needed to think carefully about the position of the tent

For a short stay, this was perfect for us, we spent most of our time away from the site, but in terms of our needs as a base, it offered us exactly what we wanted.

Would recommend to others and definitely visit again for a short break.

We booked in for a long weekend during regatta week in Fowey. The first thing to point out is the sloping fields which are unavoidable unfortunately, and did become a tad frustrating. Aside from that the site is very functional with a reasonable shower block, although the mens shower block only had 2 showers (not 3 as mentioned in other reviews) and so queuing was inevitable.

If you have children I would advise against walking to the Four Turnings bus stop (approx 700 meters), the lane is narrow in places and cars do drive at speed. We used the local taxi to get in to Fowey, and it was extremely expensive given that Fowey is only 1.5 miles down the road (but then it was Regatta week so I suspect fares were inflated!).

Agree with other reviews on the location which is beautiful, and Polkerris beach and the Rashleigh arms 1 mile down hill are a must. The site itself was quiet and by and large friendly, although people tended to keep to themselves.

Beautiful area, very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent for families as very safe for the kids to run around and very quiet late evening with no noisy bar.

Toilet and shower block very clean but sometimes a bit of a wait as only 3 showers for men and 3 showers for women for the entire site.

Unfortunately we suffered torrential rain and sea fog for our stay and the field became very boggy and muddy.

Fowey is quite a trek from the campsite and very steep coming back. Parking in Fowey itself is very limited and expensive.

Thoroughly enjoyed and stay however and the friendliness of the site means we would return again.

My sister and I spent a week at Penhale and thoroughly enjoyed it. The facilities were basic but always clean. Staff members were very friendly and helpful, the little shop at reception covered the basics and were able to re-freeze ice blocks (for about 20p-can't quite remember). Otherwise there is a Tesco's towards St.Austel.

Fowey was a slightly longer walk than we had thought as was the beach however with beautiful scenery and great weather we had it didn't seem to notice. The Eden project is quite close and well worth the visit whether you're into plants (my sister) or not (me!).

There's no escaping the slope of the field although some area's are flatter than others however, the setting soon makes you forget about it. Penhale is a quite getaway with a view of rolling fields and the sea beyond when opening your tent door in the morning.

The highlight of this site is the fantastic view from every pitch. Pitches are well spaced giving plenty of privacy. Toilet and Shower block is kept very clean and the fresh flowers are a nice touch. Reasonably priced laundry facilities.
Ideally placed about 1.5 miles from Fowey, one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall. It is also about 15 minutes from the Eden project, a must if you have never been and are in the area. Parking in Fowey is expensive but it is too unrealistic to walk it and there are no off road paths.
At the bottom of the site is a path which after a 20 minute walk leads to a pub at the nearby beach, but beware it is up hill on the way back and don't forget your torch! The only drawback to this site would be the road which was noisy at times, request a pitch away from the road.
