Just returned from this far out site. We arrived to find the pitch in which we had requested there was no room, and the only pitch that was available in that area was only navigable by someone with a motor mover. Anyhow when we eventually returned to the reception area they directed us to the Rally area which was sloping slightly would be a slight underestimate. We had extreme difficulty with being able to get the van level facing down the hill and out over the bay this would have been our preferred siting due to the mediocre jockey wheel we have (size Matters I now say to myself). Any how after turning the van to face 90 degrees and have the broadside out to the bay and a bit of fiddling about with little hollows in the ground we eventually got the van level and sited for the week. The staff at reception were always helpful when relied upon and even the owner when asked for some information made sure we got what we wanted. Toilets on this field was in the form off a static lodge set of toilets generally kept topped up with the essentials although they seemed to ignore possible leaks due to the quick-fit plumbing techniques in these type of blocks. The facilities for entertainment were quite good it was just sometimes that certain children of certain ages were left to climb on games tables and basically disrespect the facilities that were provided for their enjoyment. The shop was stocked with most essentials and the uncanny ability to be able to charge almost what they felt on the day for some of them. (example a Branded loaf of Bread "Kingsmill" would cost 90 pence which is reasonably cheap but then the following day a non well known brand loaf of bread would cost 95 pence even if the prices stated 70 pence on the shelf) In every town nearby the Tourist Information are extremely welcoming and helpful. Recommend places to visit Castle Douglas for a good afternoon shopping and stroll around the loch. If you have children try the Cocoa Bean Company Twynholm. They can spend time making chocolates whilst you relax in the coffee shop and watch. Also everything they make can be taken home with them. Adults can of course have a go. The peace and tranquillity of the site suits some and may not suit others but beware when you go here prepare to travel to see the local area. The views are splendid especially when you can see the Isle of Man on the horizon. The beach really is more of a rock climbing expedition but worth the time spent to do a bit of crag hopping.

This site is brilliant, great entertainment, car boot every Sunday weather permitting. Take away food, nice reasturant. Small pool area, sun beds, fitness room, kids amusements, discos. Every time we have been weather has been great. Not to mention the lovely scenery, great park for all ages. Though a bit steep in some places, not really suitable for the disabled unless you have a car or mobile scooter. Friendly staff, shop not too expensive, good range of food. I'm sure everyone who visits will go back. Why not give it a go. ENJOY

This was our second visit to this site and again we had a brilliant time (great weather was an added bonus). We stayed 5 nights over Easter. Arrived the Thursday (thank goodness) because by Friday night most decent pitches were gone. Pitch beside us was left vacant because grassed area beside it was too steep to put awning on. Good layout in little crescents and well spaced pitches. Shower/Toilet blocks are no longer code pads (couldn't remember the code after a night in the sports bar). Doors are now fitted with Yale locks for which you pay £5.00 deposit. Showers have been upgraded, no longer need 20p just have to keep pushing the button. (these were cold for most of the stay, obviously too many people using them, had to get in first thing on a morning to get the hot water, staff come to change the Gas bottles in the block on the Sunday). Ladies loos have huge toilet roll holders fitted on side of cubicle so you have to straddle over the toilet after doing reverse movement and 3 point turn just to get sat on the loo!. But facilities very clean and cleaned daily. Used the pool daily and was almost tempted with the gym. Did not use the Cabaret Room due to amount of kids running around. Sports bar adjacent to Complex much more relaxed and great karaoke! Restaurant and Takeaway food good value but not a great selection. Shop behind reception stocked almost everything including windbreaks (had to buy 2 as I left my 2 new ones at home). Great Car Boot on a Sunday morning on the Rally field. We took 2 teenagers with us and they never got bored, played football, went swimming, played pool and machines in games room, fishing, paddling in sea with dogs. All in all brilliant stay. I recommended the site to my sister who just visited Auchenlairie last Bank Hol (May) she loved it and we intend to go back in August.

We stayed here for four days. We parked in one of the touring caravan circles which was closest to the toilet block. It was a very uneven site. We had to use steadies at highest on one side and lowest at other. We put up the awning for storage purposes only as we couldn't get a level bit to put the table and chairs on, and everything just rolled off the table. The pitches higher up in the circle were much more level, but these seemed to be occupied by season holders.
The toilet and showers were clean and fresh. Unfortunately due to the very dry weather at the start of summer there was a shortage of water and only a trickle came out of the shower or the tap at the washup area. The shop up at the top of the Park beside reception was basic supplies Fresh bread, milk and the paper. What more do you need! Staff were friendly The pool was lovely but opening times were restricted. The entertainment complex was OK but hardly big enough for the size of Park. The kids(8 &6) enjoyed it and that is the main thing! They really loved the playpark next to the touring area. The walk down and back up from the entertainment complex kept us fit. Not suitable for infirm or buggies as it was accessed by steep steps. We made a great bunch of fellow caravaners and had a lovely time. We would go back again sometime

We stayed at this site for 8 nights. There was no waste for the super pitch. You had to climb through a window in the toliet block because the door code would not open the door. In the mens toilet block, if you put your money in for the shower then another person used the other shower, your shower would cease to work. It would be easier washing yourself with a tooth brush and a cap full of water. So the £23 per night was extortion. The club had enough seats for forty or fifty people which considering there were 300 static caravans and 100 tourers was no way large enough. However, the views were lovely. There was Mossyard beach which was a half a mile away which had a beautiful bay to bathe in.

Stayed here for four nights ,the nightly entertainment for kids was good, and there was bingo, but the food let it down, all frozen fast food type take-away yuk! there are steep hills to negotiate from the touring and tent areas to the main complex where the swimming pool and pubs ect are,no good if you have babies in buggies,or are less than fit,the outdoor play area is set right at the bottom of the site{hill}and practicaly built into a small cliff,i didnt think it was safe even for my older children. It has lovely sea views, but is a bit windswept, and at over 20 pounds a night I thought it was exspensive. We wont be going back.

Site was lovely, found it very expensive though at £23.50 a night. Was not that impressed with it, it has got everything it says it has but all squashed into a very small complex! The touring pitches I wasnt that impresed with either for the price we paid, expected super pitches level with drainage at least but it did not! The showers were very small, don't know how every caravanner and camper is meant to shower in 2 showers well the ladies anyway, when my partner went into the mens he couldn't get the shower to work, but all in all very friendly park, very helpful, well kept, but we wont be back! Not suitable for very young kids i.e. todlers nothing for them to do and the play parks are for older kids! My son burst his nose in the park he is only 20 months everything for older kids.

We stayed for 6 nights with caravan. The site is mainly static caravans - 300+ It has good sea views, including the Isle of Man, as it is on a steep tiered hillside on the coast. The touring caravan pitches are mainly arranged around the edge of large circles with 6-7 pitches each. Each pitch has electricity, water(no waste drain) and cable TV point (limited freeview only) The pitches are hardstanding with adjacent grass awning area. All of the pitches are sloping - some VERY steep.
The site has an entertainment complex with 2 bars, games room, restaurant, swimming pool and games hall. There is a take-away food service. This is at the bottom of the site and so there is no problem with unwanted noise. The Sports Bar has large screen TV with Sky sports. There are evening entertainments for adults and children's entertainer during the day. The pool and games hall cost c£3.00 per person to use. There is a small shop near reception.
There is a small, rather stony beach at the bottom of the site. A big climb back up to the pitches. They seem to be developing a boat launching area.
The site is clean and tidy. There is a small, mainly sloping, tent area. The toilet facillities for tents and tourers are VERY limited and not always clean.
The site is adjacent to the main A75 road but road noise was not a problem in the touring area.
The site is located about 5 miles west of the small town of Gatehouse of Fleet. Gatehouse has a couple of general stores and a few touristy shops, pubs, restaurants and Churches. and has easy access to the beaches, countryside and sites of the area.
At £21.00 for a service pitch, as detailed, above I thought that it was expensive. If you like commercial type sites this is quite a pleasant one but not really for those who like to "get away from it all". The exposed coastal position meant that it was often windy. We only stayed so long because we had friends in the area. There are nicer, less commercialised, sites not too far away, eg, Mossyard, Cardoness CL but these tend to book quickly.

July 2004 Beach: Small but good. Broken shells and rocks underfoot at high tide - take flipflops. Low tide - lots of flat sand and shallow water for paddling. Kids really enjoyed this
Toilets - terrible. Two loos for the ladies & a shower you can hardly turn around in. One of the loos nearly always blocked. Gents, just the one "sit down", had to shuffle past each other just to brush your teeth.
Yes the camp field site is steep except at the bottom, just one field as the rest of the site is a caravan park. Has it's own bar, swimming pool two, though which the kids enjoyed.
There appeared to be a bottom camping field all the way down beyond the swimming pool, to which few seemed to be directed to, but I'd check this out if you're planning on using this site.
In all a good site, but the toilet block..... I'm never going back

Aug 2003 lovely site, clean and quiet. we stayed next to the little stream which was lovely WHEN the sun came out! We pitched on a downward slope which looked flat to us until we put up our table and all the drinks kept falling off the other end! we would pitch a bit further up next time. Good value for money but don't forget your 20p for the shower(there is only 1 shower in the ladies, but we rarely had to que)they were nice and clean with a swipe card to get in. The shop was well stocked, cheap pocket money toys for the children too! they even didn't charge for freezing the ice blocks. The private beach was shelly but it was pretty and secluded. Great for rock climbing and rock pooling. The walk back up to the top was a challenge! we stayed for 6 nights our longest camping trip yet, but the weather towards the end of the week was wet, windy and thundery! and limited our outdoor pursuits! Hope you find the sunshine -you'll have a nice time.
