We have just used Les Pommiers at Caen for the first time and found it absolutely fine for a night to and from the ferry. It is about 1 mile up the Caen road from the ferry and very easy to find. About 6 to 8 British caravans arrived at the same time as us from the Brittany Ferries boat that arrives at 9. 30pm French time. We felt quite safe and there was no noise or hassle. People on reception very friendly and efficient and spoke English. Can I suggest if you use this site that after you have gone in through the electronic barrier you drive to the bottom of that row and turn left you will then see much more open pitches with plenty of access and some with room to leave your car and caravan hitched up if you wish.
The facilities are a bit basic but very clean. I must admit that I didn't use their toilets but did have a quick shower. Only one slight snag - when we were leaving to catch the ferry home the barrier codes on the electronic barrier didn't want to work so about 6 of us were potentially stuck on the site with no-one in reception until 9. 00am. However my husband managed to kick start it by walking in and out past the sensor a few times. Apparently it is a new system and they have a few teething problems!

Ideal for those 'in transit' using Portsmouth ferry. Our ferry did not dock till after 22. 00hrs and we needed to be back again before 07. 30 so Les Pommiers was ideal location for us. Certainly better than parking on the dockside. Used the electric but nothing else. Not all pitches had hook-ups, other facilities dated. Friendly welcome, English spoken, open till 23. 00hrs but Office is closed at intervals during the day. Less then 5 minutes to the ferry. Would use it again if ferry timetable required. Cost 19 euros per night.

Stayed overnight after arriving on the ferry and not finding anywhere to stay at the dockside - hadn't booked. Like other reviewers wouldn't stay for more than one night but it was easy to find and met our needs for the one night. Didn't use the toilet block after other comments but my husband did have a shower and said ti was OK. Didn't feel intimidated even though we were right in the middle of the site. There was an open air disco/live music the night we were there but it stopped at 11pm and there was no noise at all after this. I would stay again for convenience. If you are happy to travel a bit further after getting off the ferry the site at Bayeux is much better - have stayed there for a two week holiday.

Location perfect for ferry at Caen, three minutes up road. Large supermarket almost opposite. Barrier opens at 6:30am. Would use again, but only due to location. Other campers were a bit 'rough around the edges'. We were tucked away in a corner, but would have felt intimidated if in amongst them. Showers are locked from 9:30pm until 6:30am, but toilets available. Amenity block a bit shabby, my husband didn't shower due to the lack of cleanliness (the block, not him!). Site could do with updating. Had a lovely walk up the canal to the beach, took about 20 minutes. 19 Euros for family of 4 with no electricity.

We were unsure whether to use this site for an overnighter before catching the 8. 30am ferry, having read some negative reviews on here and other forums, but decided to risk it as it was a week night and out of main season. The lady in reception was friendly and helpful and we were given a free choice of where to pitch. We chose an open area to the right of reception - if we'd spent longer looking around we'd probably have gone left of reception past the motorhome area, which is even more open (and where there is space to leave your car hitched up to your van, as some people did). Near us was a mixture of permanently sited vans and French visitors and we exchanged the usual 'bonjours' with people near us. A police car went round the site a couple of times during the evening - obviously a regular patrol - but there was no hint of any noise or rowdiness and at no time did we feel unsafe. The toilet blocks, although clean, are rather 'tired' and so we chose to use our own facilities. We have previously used Les Hautes Coutures and had a less than positive experience there, so although this is not a site where we would choose to stay longer than a night, it did the job we wanted it to and we would definitely use it again. It was the most expensive site we used during our 3 weeks (€19. 40 for 2 adults + pitch, €5. 40 of which was for 10 amp electric!) but much cheaper than Les Hautes Coutures and so convenient for the ferry port.

We've used this site in winter 2011 and 2012. It's handy for the Brittany Ferries Terminal - about 5 minutes with a caravan. The site is open until 11pm so OK for ferry arriving 9. 30pm. Pitch fee €18. 30 with electricity (not worth €5. 00 for o'night).
Grass pitches on flat site. Loo block limited in winter but has hot water and is heated and clean though rather old. We also used the site on the way home in April. It's quiet at that time of year.

Having had a bad experience at Haute Coutures when we arrived in France we stayed here on the way back. I had read the previous post on this site so was a little concerned.
We were greeted by a very pleased young lady who made booking in simple. She showed us where we could pitch and to choose any pitch we wanted. The rows in this area were easy to negotiate and level. We didn't see other parts of the site. As mentioned the toilet blocks are not modern but they were clean, infact they were cleaned whilst we were there. The site warden or his assistant kept patrolling constantly in a golf buggy. There were several vans/motor homes using this area of the site as an overnight for the ferry and we felt very relaxed. This was a Friday night and there were a number of children on what appeared to be a weekend camp. They were a little noisy as kids are but by 10. 30pm the noise stopped and we never heard them again.
As an overnight stop I would certainly use this site again. As for cost we were charged €13. 50 for the night. We didn't use electric and later saw that this would have been €5. 20 very expensive. Even with electric it would still be a lot cheaper than Haute Coutures just down the road.
Time to ferry was 3 minutes.

We planned to stay at this site for one night as a stopover for the Caen- Portsmouth ferry. Easy to find, and looked really nice on approach. Efficient and friendly reception who offered us a choice of pitches. Selected pitch which was a decent size and set up. Toilet block not the best. Went to Mcdonalds (which is close) for tea. On return lots of very drunk and noisy people. The noise got louder and at times took on an 'anti-english' tone. Only us and one other English van on site. Eventually due to noise and the vibe deteriorating we hooked the van on and drove to the port. Loads of English vans there, security, and a nice safe feeling, and it's free

When we first entered the site we realised we were no longer in the UK, this is La France not the UK and in parts it might of looked a little like a weekend retreat, however it was the most friendly, accommodating and well run site we have ever been to, and we were there for 4 months we miss it and wish we could return soon.
Analise and Patrick were the perfect hose.
The convenience of the site is brilliant for shopping, beach, ferry.

We stayed for one night before catching the early ferry home. With hook up it cost us approx 12 quid for 2 adults and 3 kids. It's a very basic site, tidy and clean enough. Pitches are a reasonable size. There are a lot of old caravans on seasonal pitches and some of these definitely belong in a scrap yard or museum! The night we stayed there were some travellers on site , they were no trouble to us, but obviously this site does accept them. A police van toured the site at least twice on the evening and you wonder why. It does have direct access to the canal path so perhaps they do get the odd unwelcome visitor. Certainly I would have no qualms staying there again for a night or 2 but it wouldn't be my choice for a longer stay. There is a barrier at the entrance and from memory this is open 7.00am to 11.00pm so it's convenient for the early and late Brittany ferries.
