Just come back from staying at this site for the last 2 nights of our holiday. We wanted somewhere near the port as we were having an early morning crossing after spending time at the Peace Museum in Caen and the American War Cemetery in Coleville sur Mer

It has definitely seen better days although the staff seem friendly enough. The loos and facilities could do with a good clean and maintenance overhaul and quite a few of the campers were 'residents' although very friendly once they realised I spoke French.

A BIG problem we had was with the mosquito population - they just loved us, we must have provided them with a gourmet feast on both nights we were there, despite practically drowning ourselves in repellent. I have to say, it was a very quiet site too (apart from the high-pitched sound the mosquitos made as they tucked in). Due to this, I would probably give it a miss next time and book Les Haute Coutures as that's not too far from the port.

We used this site when we were very late arriving and needed an overnight stop close to the ferry - it was very close but it was camping 'sur le euroroute' it was sleeping beside the M25, the folk next to us looked like semi permanant residents and a car arrived to take them to work at 5.30 in the morning and kept it's engine running nearly suffocating us. There was a police raid in the evening as people were always nipping in from the canal towpath and legging it off with bikes and tables etc. I would pay the bit extra and stay at Haute Couture - also handy for the Caen ferry and much better ... it may of course have improved but doesnt look like it from the last review!

 October 2003
I used this site along with four other friends as a base camp to visit Pegasus Bridge and Ranville cemetry in Normandy. The site is just outside the ferry port of Quisterham. You can walk it in 15 minutes (we did loaded up with tent etc) The receptionist spoke good English (don't they all) and we booked a pitch for two nights for 40€

The site itself is quite large with lots of pitches available for tents and tourers. I would describe the site as looking a little 'tired', many of the statics were rather tatty with awnings that could have done with a good scrub.

The shower blocks (three in all) were clean but none of the loos had any seats and there was no plugs to be found anywhere for the wash sinks. There were plenty of showers available with free hot water. There were a few washing machines in one of the blocks.

The site was lit throughout the night but it did have insecure access to the 'towpath' of the Caen canal. No problem for me and four other guys but it may be a concern for any lone females with kids.

I did notice that the site had about three reserved notices put up on pitches for Brittany Ferries so I would assume that this site is a regular overnight stop before driving into mainland France. This would be a good idea as Quisterham itself has lots of good bars, cafes etc.

We will be back again in June 2004 for the 60th anniversary of the D-day landings....Big air drop planned so should be worth a look see.
