To keep it simple, if you are looking for =
Beautiful setting.
Rural feel.
Water, trees, wildlife.
Choice of settings (main site or secluded clearing in a wood).
Dog friendly.
Relaxing.
Good amenities in the village (Pubs, Co-Op, Take-Away, etc)
Then this is just perfect.
In the more 'out of the way' places on this HUGE site, the loos and showers are a bit of a trek, but in our camper we have a loo !
Been here a few times now and are about to set off to go again = LOVE IT :)
Not for the white picket fence / perfect mowed plots / caravan club types though ;) This is like wild camping, but without the worries :)

We were concerned about previous reviews - but how wrong the negative ones were. Yes the showers were very basic but everything else was great !
Brilliant location for the town, all the areas were clean and no dog mess anywhere.
Plenty of pitches left Friday afternoon and you pick which one you wanted - by Saturday the place was full.
All very friendly and would definitely come back again. Only draw back was no park for the kids, but plenty of open space playing games.

My wife and I stayed at Proctors twice in June for two weekends
Taking on board all the comments made by previous posters we have to say that we enjoy staying on this site. Yes there are a lot of old neglected vans scattered around the park but it didn't put us off at all. Yes the toilet and shower blocks are very poor but we just used our on board facilities. Yes it is quite expensive when you start adding up extras for hook ups, awnings, dogs etc. Yes the bins could do with emptying a bit more often.
But the biggest redeeming feature is the fantastic location. Nestled between the river Soar and a canal with lovely walks along side each. Loads of dog friendly pubs within walking distance and full of really friendly people.
It is a relatively quiet site (some traffic noise may be heard if the wind is in the wrong direction), very child friendly and if you let your dog off the lead and it is well behaved, nobody seems to mind.
Once again we really enjoy staying on this site but it will not be everyone's cup of tea. I suggest you try it out for yourself and make your own mind up.

Stayed here for what was meant to be one night but ended up two! Turned up with tent and dog, was told to pitch anywhere and paid small fee for fishing and pitch. Walked quite far into the park and stayed by the river. Lovely spot, no one in site so lovely and peaceful. One lot of toilets that wasn't in great condition. But as we were camping and usually don't have any toilet facilities we were very grateful. Close to shop/pub but also clubhouse on site which we didn't visit as we were enjoying the peace so much! Cant wait to go again taking the kids with us next time, probably go several times during 2012!

Very pleasantly located large caravan park with parkland/riverside location. Amenities basic, but adequate. Have your own loo roll, torch for night use.
Site is very easy to find, 3/4 mile off but adjacent to Dual Carriageway so there is some traffic noise.
Avoid site after heavy rain as can get waterlogged.
Pub just around corner serves real ale, Pub across road serves food but limited hours for food, Indian restaurant by entrance.
Really excellent pub/hotel (The Hunting Lodge, South St) serving evening meals 1/2 mile to the right (not in village!) with excellent gourmet food, waitress service, very reasonable prices and excellent menu choice.

We only stayed here overnight as we were having some work done on our caravan in Loughborough. We weren't expecting too much as we had read previous reviews.
There were loads of caravans there but they looked as if they had been left to decay years ago. We were greeted by a woman who took our money and told us that the toilets and showers were bad and suggested that we use our caravan shower! Not a good first impression. We didn't bother even looking at them.
There was only 1 water point on the whole site and the site was very uneven and dirty. The caravan got a real shake up. At £17. 50 a night it was way over priced.
Barrow on Soar did look quite nice but as we arrived late and left early we didn't get chance to see it. We would definitely not return to this site again. There is a clubhouse on site but was closed as it only opens at weekend.

Proctors Pleasure Park is ideally located for easy access to both Barrow Upon soar and the river. We arrived early evening and were offered to pitch our tent where we wanted. We chose an area as far from the road as possible, but still the traffic noise was constant night and day.
The grass was a bit long, and during a weekend of sunshine and showers, our feet were always wet. The ground was also very hard making the tent pegs very difficult to knock fully down
Once the tent was up we went for a walk around the site, and were quite surprised at how run down it all looked. It looked like a site for dying and decaying caravans. Some of the caravans were well looked after but most of them looked as if they were part of an abandoned circus!
The facilities at the site are very basic. One of the toilets had a hole in the roof which meant when it rained it got very wet. There was no toilet roll or soap provided. The showers were free and electric, but there was no window in the shower room which meant it smelled very damp. The washing up facility was located within the toilet block, and at the time I went there was no hot, or even warm, water
As soon as you leave the site you are in Barrow Upon Soar, which has several good pubs serving real ales and reasonably priced food. There is even an Indian restaurant right by the entrance to the park. There is also the river Soar which is lovely to walk along and see the boats (when it wasn’t raining!)
There are no facilities for children, and sadly some dog mess around the park which means you have to look where you are walking.
We would go back to Barrow Upon Soar, but would not visit Proctors Pleasure Park again. We feel that for the money they charge it was not good value. Those in caravans may have a different view as they may not be so reliant on the facilities

We arrived on the thursday afternoon and had problems with our electric hook up, the owners and people on the campsite and boats were so friendly and helpful in getting our hook up to work. This the 4th time we have comehere and we thoroughly enjoy it.
The clubhouse has been decorated and the beer is cheap! It is a peaceful and very friendly site with loads of walks by the canals and pubs along the way.
It doesn't have a play park for children but our children don't mind as they always make friends and there's nothing better than playing with a football.
The village is quiet with a supermarket, pharmacy and pubs. All in all this is a lovely village and camping/caravan park which we would come back time and time again.

Its nice that they let you have fires & the fishing is good too as the river goes through the park. Also tried the club house and was also good when we went . It was a bank holiday and they had entertainment on which was good. The management were very good as was the bar staff. There are a lot of pub around, think 7 just in this village & Quorn which is 2 miles away also has the same. Both barrow & Quorn have good places to eat. Didn't try the showers as we weren't staying that long but I am planning going in school holidays.

Read the reviews but thought what the heck will try it. We were told about the the toilets over the phone when I booked and they were right, they do look like they are from something from the 70s but they were clean. There isn't any park but the kids don't need one there
There is a club on site which as just been refurbished and is very nice. There are 3 pubs with in a stones throw, Cycle paths and walks a great canal with fishing etc. We could even pick our own pitch the site is absolutely massive. Will go back this year with our caravan.
Also one part of the site looks like a grave yard for caravans we loved it. Every one we talked to were very nice. So if you like a bit of carry on camping go try it for yourself.
