Date of Visit: February 2006 Unit:  Touring Caravan
Reviewer: Tim and Cary 61 reviews from this member

Wife and I stayed at Wyatts Covert for a week in February 2006, half term. The site is VERY OBVIOUSLY meant as a base for visiting London. It’s good for that as there is a railway station just over a mile away with a direct link to Marleybone. (We were helping Father-in-Law who lives nearby and had just come out of hospital after a hip replacement.)

Although there is a small, private airfield next door we never really experienced any noise problems, there is, also, a helicopter taxi base next door on the other side of the site but again only heard a helicopter land/take-off a couple of times during the whole week - not really very noisy at all.

The site is just rows of caravan pitches on hardstanding with some grass in between, all with hook-ups. The site is surrounded by trees and hedges - no views at all. The only site facilities are the toilet block which was clean and warm. There is no play area or even anywhere for children to play. It is popular and does get booked up. We had advance booked and it was full for part of the week we were there. I suspect some of the residents may have been working in the area as they left very early and arrived back late in vans! The wardens were friendly and helpful. There is a fierce security barrier which rises from the road and is operated by a swipe card on entry /exit.

The site is very close to, and handy for, the M25 and M40/A40. The approach to site is along a main road apart from the last mile or so which is through a residential area and then a minor country road, but not too narrow. Ensure that you DO follow the route in the CC handbook as the approach from the other way IS VERY NARROW. The sit is not signed from the main road but the adjacent picnic site is. We had no access problems with our twin-axle Landranger following the recommended route. The entrance is not too clear especially at night. Turn into the entrance to the adjacent mobile home park and the immediately right into the caravan site DON'T actually go into the mobile home park. Look to your right as you turn in and you will see the CC site sign.

There is a parade of shops, including a mini-market/newsagents/ off-licence, pubs, restaurant, petrol station and railway station in Denham, just over a mile away. Quite a long walk downhill, uphill back to the site! There are other shops, including supermarkets, in Uxbridge, about 5 miles away. Watford shopping centre is about 10 miles away There is a picnic area next tot hte site but it was rather muddy and bedraggled when we were there but in fairness it was only late February!?? In addition to the delights of London Windsor, Beaconscot model village and Legoland are in easy driving distance. There is also the very pleasant Buckinghamshire countryside to visit. Basically quite a site good if you wish to stay in the London area but not a lot in its own right

Visited this site in aug 2005. Lovely small caravan club site, nice big pitchs, absolutely immaculate facilities. Very convienient for London - train from Denham station straight to Marylebone, which also stops at Wembley. Only drawback situated next to an airfield which was very noisy, so not the place for a relaxing holiday but would definitely use again to visit london.

 August 2005
Stayed here begining of August for 8 nights, 2 adults, 1 child (7yrs). We wanted a site that we could use as a base for London and surrounding areas. This was perfect! It is a small site with very friendly and helpful wardens who give you all the information to travel into London. It cost us approx £7 for an adult savers ticket and approx £3 for a child which allowed travel on the railway, tubes and dockland railway. Parking at the railway station is cheap too! Trains run late into the night so we were still able to see a Westend show and not worry that we wouldn't get back to the site. As well as perfect for London it is also ideal for Windsor and Legoland. It is a peacful site apart from the odd light aircraft. But we spent our days out and about so it wasn't a problem. Would definitely use this caravan site again for London holiday.

 December 2004
Just returned from 4 nights at this excellent site.

All facilities up to Caravan clubs high standards.

Decent size pitches all hard standing. Toilet block was A+. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Only downside was the Airfield nearby -found it quite noisy. Though not at night when is most important. Excellent location to enjoy London from.

Caravan Club, members only site with all facilities you would expect from them. (Pup tents only). This was our third choice of a site to stay when we visited the Earls Court show last year. (Abbey Wood and Crystal Palace were both fully booked.)
The site, surrounded by woodland on three sides, is located quite near the M40 and M1 about a mile outside Denham Green not far from the local airfield. Small planes frequently fly over the site to land or take off but it wasn't too noticeable to us. In fact the only noise we heard were the Guy Fawkes fireworks display from nearby Denham.
It is a gentle stroll past the airfield, then downhill into Denham Green with it's few shops and railway station with cheap all day parking. Central London is eighteen miles and a travel card can be purchased at the station which can be used for your main trip into London, the Underground, buses and Docklands Light railway. (I think we paid about£6.40 return)
Although not as convenient as the other London sites for visiting the capital it is certainly a good alternative.
