We loved this very basic, clean site. Next to a great pub with excellent vegetarian food, well kept beer and friendly staff. The camp site was spotlessly clean and delightfully flat. I think there were 3 different areas to camp, each enclosed by hedges and trees which baffled any traffic noise.(not much of a problem any way) Close to Fisher's farm park which provides a full days entertainment for children of all ages at a reasonable price. Our only gripe would be the somewhat public showers - next to the pub carpark, but with cubicles only closed off by a curtain, in a portacabin which also housed the only toilets on the site - so option no lock the door.
Our children loved the duck pond opposite the pub which made little people very welcome with a good kids menu and large play area.
All in all a bargain of a site which we will certainly be using regularly

Did a one night stay on sat to get my girlfriend who has never camped before into the swing of things. Glad I chose the bat and ball as its a perfect short stay site. Nice friendly atmosphere, basic but clean amenities & friendly staff.
Pitch was £7.50 for large tent, the food and beer in the pub are excellent.
Will definitely be going back soon

Good that there was a CDP as well as fresh water tap. Other facilities basic but OK, also recycling bins. Top of field backs onto surprisingly busy road. Centre of field was left empty and was used as children's playing field. However did think £15 per night was exorbitant as there were no electric hookups, we would normally expect a lot more for this charge.

A lovely, but very basic site.
The facilities are minimal, they are old but perfectly clean and functional, there are two loos and one shower for ladies, and I assume its the same for the men.
There are no washing up facilities, so bring a bowl!
There were two fields open for camping, and though the smaller back field filled up quickly there was plenty of room in the front field.
The main attreaction of this site is the pub which serves great food and has a good playground, the staff were all really friendly and very helpful.
We were charged £5 per night for the tent.
Fishers farm is a 5 minute walk away, and the nearest shop is a short drive (or longer walk) to wisborough green.
All in all, excellent value and a fantastic short stay campsite.

Plus points. Excellent pub! Three nice fields with easy to pitch land, ie no compacted gravel one inch below grass
Minus points. Appalling facilities which does not even reflect the £5 per pitch charge. Dirty, old shower toilet and shower, has very old chemical waste and drinking water supply. We were led to belive that the brewery that own the pub are at fault for these problems and that the landlord and his team do what they can. Poor standard

This site has very few facilities, although what is has got is clean and working.
The hosts are very friendly, children and pet tolerant and the food and entertainment is above average.
They are new owners and are planning an upgrade to the site to include hook ups and much better facilities and amenities for families. As it is next door to the award winning Fishers Farm Park and is set in six acres of Sussex countryside with easy access to the coast and historic towns and villages I can imagine that in the future this will be a great place to spend a few days either as a couple or a family.
This is one I recommend to watch for the future

This was our first camping trip as a family and so were just away for a long weekend. We have driven past the Bat and Ball many times and there always seems to be a steady flow of campers! We arrived in the evening to a very friendly welcome in the pub and could pitch up anywhere though were advised the back field as it is further away from the road. The ground was good and grass had been cut. Good shade all around the edge of the field. Plenty of space in the middle to play. The shower facilities were in need of some updating and possibly another shower, but were clean and the water was warm. We had a meal in the Pub on the Saturday evening which was superb. Beautiful garden and play area for the children a lively family friendly place - very pleasant.

We usually visit the Bat and Ball every Easter and always have a great time here. The facilities are basic but always clean and the water is always hot! The owners of the pub are very friendly and helpful and put up with the kids being noisy in the family room which is a real bonus. The pub has a good sized garden with nice play equipment and the food is always lovely. The best bit about staying here is the beautiful surroundings and you are only a 5 minute walk from Fishers Farm which is a great place to take the kids for the day.

June 2004 Just nipped in to have a look at this site while we were in the area. Beautiful looking old Sussex pub with fields around it for tents and caravans. According to the owner very reasonable when we called in: £7 a night for us (4 man tent and car no hook up) facilities listed : pets allowed, caravans and tents catered for, reasonable looking shower block, childrens room and TV room (presumably in the pub) restaurant in the pub, motor vans taken, gas sales available. We saw three fields, one he uses for rallies, one smaller field if groups want to book in and one larger field with tents and caravans on. Electric hook up available. Big marquee in adjoining garden with BBQ: looked as though they were catering for some "do" Looks simple but a possible we might try.
