It doesn't sound as if anything has changed from previous reviews. The site is on a working cattle farm but while I found the grass was long (comfortable for sleeping on) it was clean with no evidence of dung. The positive aspects of this site are that it is generally quiet (certainly in midweek) with plenty of space, wonderful views, and it was less than half the price of other sites in the area.
Despite previous reviews, I headed here because other sites in the area were full, and I wanted to stay in this locality for a few days. On passing one of these other sites during a riverside walk, I was actually pleased I ended up at this site, as the campers on the popular site were crammed in, with hardly any room to move.
You still have to bring your own toilet roll here and the showers are basic but at least they are controllable (rather than the push button type which always seem lukewarm) and free. There is a handy seperate sink for washing dishes.
One can walk straight from the site to pick up the river Wharfe and either walk down to the Strid & Bolton Abbey, or up to Burnsall & Grassington. Or one can walk to the lovely Parcevall Gardens & Trollers Gill or up to Simon's Seat with its superb views. The 2 pubs, 16 minutes walk away, are both good and serve excellent food.

As per other reviews the site is very basic with dirty toilet block, blocked showers and bring your own toilet paper. You have to descend a very steep slope to get to toilets / showers which is dangerous in the wet - no steps or hand rail. The very worst aspect though is if you want a nights sleep forget it here. Lots of large groups of lads playing car stereos next to their tents all night. We don't mind people having a laugh but at 2 in the morning its just not on. Don't bother complaining to the owners - they couldn't care less. At £6 per head this is too expensive for what you get. This was the only camp site available and now we know why.

As already mentioned this site is basic. We arrived on Saturday for an overnight stay when all other camps were fully booked. It was ok for one night. At £42 for 1 tent with 4 adults and 3 children it was overpriced but I think they realise that if you are going there you are desperate! It is a working farm and the cows were being milked up to 11pm and started again at about 5.30am. The mens toilets were flooded and the ladies were struggling to cope, showers freezing and blocked. Apart from that- a good weekend was had by all! Beautiful scenery all around.

If you're looking for a well maintained and immaculate site then don't go here. However, this is a working farm and has the sheep droppings throughout the grass. Level site with two free showers that were hot and fairly clean. Steep climb down the hill to the shower facilities. Site became quite busy in the evening with a few camper lighting fires! Great scenery, not a commercial site and on the whole perfectly fine if you want a basic site. Our children aged 3 and 1 enjoyed camping here and we would consider going back.

We visited Howarth Farm over a bank holiday weekend and chose the site mainly because it was the first one we found that wasn't fully booked. When we arrived the field was full of sheep, so we had to wait for them to be moved before we could pitch our tent. The field was nice and flat and free from stones, although finding an area that was free from sheep dung was a bit tricky. There was plenty of room and I can't imagine this ever being a site that gets really busy. This is a working farm, so don't expect anything too luxurious. There was a skip and some rusting farm machinery around the farm area that doesn't help the aesthetics of the site, but if you ignore these there is some nice scenery. Down a fairly steep slope from the tent field is a toilet block which were reasonably clean with two showers in one room. The hot water tank's pretty small so the hot water runs early if it's a busy weekend. There's also a sink for washing up. The site is about a mile from Appletreewick, which has two good pubs that serve food and a selection of decent beers. The nearest shop is in Burnsall, about 3 miles away or it's a drive to Grassington for a Spar. Howarth Farm is close to the Dales Way and Bolton Abbey so is good for walkers. This site is fine for those who aren't looking for anything too luxorious. For families the nearby site in Appletreewick is probably a better choice. At £12 a night for a tent and 2 people it's a bit expensive for what you get too.

June 2005 Howarth Farm is a traditonal working dales farm, so there is a lot of farm machinery about. There is an outside tap at the entrance to the caravan area. Tents in separate field. Some areas of the field are flat, and some are sloping. Get there first to pick the best site. Steep walk to shower block, where there are in the ladies, 6 toilets , 3 sinks, 2 free showers in 1 small room. Very basic but very hot water with turning taps. No frills but clean, make sure you take toilet rolls with you. There is one sink for pot-wash outside.
There's a little beck that run at the bottom of the field past the caravans, our children loved to go down. Does get quite fast if there's been a lot of heavy rain, check it out first. Was fine this weekend. It has fantastic views of Simone Seat, and there is a river walk to Appletreewick, or you can carry on to Burnsall. There is a bus back to Appletreewick about every 2 hours.
