This was our 5th visit to the site and will be returning aug 2011 for another 2 weeks. Fabulous site hidden in trees in national trust grounds.
No toilet blocks but plenty of water points and waste disposal. Lovely walks direct from the site with a private gate leading down to the lake.
Approach through Grange Village a bit scary but well worth it to reach what we think is the one of the best caravan club sites.
Small shop on site for basics but good shops in nearby keswick and there is a bus route straight outside the site and a couple of lovely cafes in the village about a 110 minute walk from the site.

We booked this site at the last minute and spent one night. The road down the east side of Derwent water feels s bit narrow when you met something similarly wide (we're 7'7') coming the other way, and getting through the village of Grange was a bit hairy on the way in because of cars coming the other way.
The site itself is totally within a wood and is lovely and peaceful. There is no toilet block or play area. But there is a path leading easily down to Derwent Water. We enjoyed our stopover.

Spent another couple of days at this site.
Excellent pitch, right near the exit gate to the footpath to the lake. Derwent Water is great, with several islands to be explored by canoe. Keswick is a 4 mile wak along the lake.
A ten minute walk brings you to the Lodore hotel, which has good food and drink, although pricey.
Have a walk up Maiden Moor and High Spy, before a few pints in Rosthwaite and a bus back to the site. Ideal!

We stayed here for 2 nights ( 2 adults) Be aware there is no toilet block at this site and it is in the middle of nowhere. There are no real local pubs only expensive hotels. Site has numerous tree shaded areas for pitching which isn't ideal as leaves to tend to fall. It had a nice walking area with lovely views. Also Motorhome dump points are not easily found.

We are just back from this wonderful site. Had spent a couple of days at a site at Ullswater (also a nice site - The Quiet Site) but wished we had spent all our time here. The location is great, you could abandon your car for a week or more and still find plenty to do round about the area. There are walks to suit any ability and just sitting outside our campervan in the morning and evening was heaven - only the birds making any noise. We didn't know how we would fare without toilet/shower facilities but did just fine - washing at the small sink in campervan tested agility but added to the fun! 2 days was not enough, but enough to know that we will definitely be back and make a holiday of it. And must mention the campsite wardens - lovely people and very helpful. Pitches mostly in shade so not for sunworshippers, although this didn't bother us.

This is the second time we've used this site - and again we were very pleased with it. The location is superb, set right in the Borrowdale Valley and right on Derwent Water. Mountain scenery and opportunities for walking here are abundant and you can hire kayaks etc at Portinscale, about three miles away. Grange is a short walk away and has a few cafes and about a mile further is Rosthwaite, with the excellent Scafell Hotel / Pub. You can walk to Portinscale and Keswick from the site withing a couple of hours, either over the fells or along the lake. Keswick is an excellent town with all the conveniences you could need. There are no shower / toilet facilities here, but this if reflected in the price.

This site is set in an excellent location, a short walk from Derwentwater and in Manesty, a remote village near Grange in Borrowdale. The local area is an excellent base for mountain walks, with tracks to Cat Bells etc from the gate of the site and bases for walks up to Scafell and Skiddaw just a short drive away. Watersports are readily available at various points on Derwentwater, and the Keswick Launch boat service does a pick up close to this site. The walk to Keswick takes a couple of hours on an easy walk by the lake; alternatively, there is the bus down the road at Grange.
The site itself is ideal. It's set in woodland and the pitches are huge and well spaced out and separated by woodland, making it very private. There are no facilities on site, apart from fresh water and disposal points, but this is reflected in the low prices charged. All pitches have electricity and TV points.
An excellent site.

Low Manesty has become a favourite location totally because of its location. This is a 'no facilities' site apart from the usual caravan club water and disposal points and electric. Its real beauty is its location. At the foot of Derwentwater it is a five minute walk to the lake. With easy trails in either direction. From the front gate the path to Cat Bells, a favourite Lakeland peak starts on the opposite side of the road. Seathwaite and the routes to Scafell are twenty minutes away. In fact all the best walks in the Lake District are very accessible and in some cases public transport can be used. In fact the wardens strongly try to encourage this. The nearest small shop is at Rosthwaite ten minutes by car, otherwise Keswick and everything you need is at the other end of the lake. In fact a fifteen minute walk from the site through beautiful woods brings you to Brandlehow where you can catch a steamer to Keswick or just around the lake. The pitches are all in trees, it is a wood after all, (one woman in front of me in the office wanted a refund because there were too many trees! There is a very tight entrance and a limit on the very largest vans. Check before booking. There is a strict no arrival before 12.00 and depart by 11.30 rule. This is because the only way in is through the village of Grange which is very narrow. It is also full of inconsiderate motorists who abandon their cars everywhere, as a result we always aim to arrive after 5.30 and be away by 9.00. This is a minor drawback for such a lovely location.
