I don't normally leave reviews but having read some of the pitiful comments about this site, I felt I had to. This site is lovely, conveniently located and well kept. The wardens are lovely.

The site itself didn't flood when we were there but it did rain heavily at times. There are two distinct parts to the site, one near the play area (there is some rail and road noise) and one well away from it. You do have to drive a minimum of 8 miles to the nearest beaches, but given that we rarely have a sustained period of summer sun these days it doesn't matter as the sites location allows you to visit other places as well as beaches.

All in all we had a really good couple of weeks at Gowerton. I recommend it to all

I wasn’t expecting a great deal from this site after reading some of the reviews, but was very pleasantly surprised. We had plenty of choice of pitches, as we arrived early on a Friday afternoon, but by the evening the site was quite full. We pitched on grass, with lots of room for car, van and awning, and an area for our son to play out front which was nice.

The site is quite well laid out, with areas defined by trees, so it doesn’t feel too big. There was some noise from the train going by, and some road noise, but wasn't too bad. We were close to the park area, which our son loved and made some nice friends.

Even though the site was full, the toilets were always clean, and we didn’t have to queue for showers.

We had a lovely drive around to explore Mumbles (fantastic Joes ice-cream!) and the Gower from the site, with most beaches around 20/30 minutes from the site. Spent the day at Port Eynon, which was a beautiful beach, the views in the surrounding area are really beautiful on a sunny day!

The shop stocked enough for our needs, but then we always do a big shop before setting out, and the wardens were very friendly and helpful.

We will return as we loved the area.

Spent 8 nights at this site. It is beautiful. But, there are no rules regarding the pitching of your setup (e.g. Car, caravan, awning as stated in the club site rules)

Children are allowed to play all ball games/ frisbee right next to all the caravans even with the large play area just a 30 second walk away. When I had a quiet word with a warden regarding our neighbours children doing this, the wardens actually told them who had complained! This did not make for a relaxing break. Toys were left abandoned across the main grass access to your pitch.

Children are also allowed to play all round the toilet blocks too. Taps were left running and washing up at the sinks, you were guaranteed to be soaked by water guns or/and swore at by the children! The toilet blocks are clean and look newly refurbished. Dog walk is quite large compared to other sites. Great site, I suggest booking out of season.

I have to say I love caravan club sites but this was disappointing. Our hardstanding pitch flooded as soon as it rained and when I told the warden she was not concerned and nobody could be bothered to come to have a look. Also they kept on closing off showers and toilets when the site was less busy in the week - the site wasn't empty it was just to save time cleaning.

The grass could do with a really good cut. The Shop was really expensive - £1.20 for 2 pints of milk. Also over the Bank holiday and school holiday bikes were being stolen at night - this made me feel unsafe which I have never experienced at a Caravan Club site before. On leaving the warden could not even be bothered to ask if we had had a good time or even bother to say safe journey!

Access is easy with the wide site entrance being only a short distance from the B4295.

This is quite a large site, but is divided up into smaller areas by maturing trees and hedges. Reception sells some basics, but there really is little point with there being a Tesco express within short walking distance.

Good dog walk on site and a playground for the ankle biters with loads of open space in the pitching areas. For ball games large playing fields are adjacent, as is a par 3 golf course and driving range.

The site facilities are up to the usual caravan club standards i.E. Exceptional.

We have just spent a week at this lovely site. The site wasn't full as they couldn't use any of the grass pitches due to all the rain. The warden's were really nice and helpful and relaxed about how you pitched etc. Toilet blocks / washing up facilities were clean. They have a small playground and a brilliant figure of 8 'cycle course' around all the pitches. My son is only nine and spent most the time going around and around (87 miles in total as each circuit is exactly half a mile!).

It is situated in the perfect position to explore the gower and recommend Rhossili beach at low tide, while also being close to the shopping centres.

There was a little noise on occasion from the remote control cars used in the field behind and the train rumbles past now and then but don't let that put you off as we didn't notice it at night.

We will definitely go back to this site again. All in all - friendly, clean, relaxed and beautiful!

Just returned from here (cut short our holiday) due to standard of the pitches - sodden! We were unable to get a hard standing and the grass pitch we used was already wet when we set up on Saturday afternoon. Non stop rain on Sunday left us almost ankle deep in our awning (and the grassed areas in general) - which made it unusable! To get to the roadway, we had to roll up trousers legs and use wellies or Crocs - other shoes/trainers would have been ruined. Our feet were permanently wet. After seeing the flood warning for today, we decided to cut our losses and leave. Wardens said they had been refunding people all week due to the poor drainage on the site. Obviously needs some investment by the Caravan Club. Also quite near to road - unusual for a CC site - and could be noisy for anyone pitched on that side. I suggest if you're booked in here in the next week or so, give the wardens a quick ring and check on the state of the site before you set out.

We have just returned from a two week holiday on the Gower coast. We had booked 14 nights at Gowerton campsite but left after only 5!

Although the site and toilet facilities etc. Were the usual spotlessly clean and tidy standard we expect from the Caravan Club and it probably has one of the best dog walking areas we have ever visited, in our opinion this site lets the Club down badly because of overcrowding on some of the pitches.

The hard-standings were of a good and some, even generous, size with plenty of space between them, but some of the perimeter grass pitches were very small and squashed together giving the impression extra pegs/EHUs had been added to squeeze in more pitches. These would have been fine for small caravans without awnings or smaller motorhomes but when the site is almost full you have to camp where there are empty pitches and some of these were too small to accommodate 4 or 6 berth 'vans with awnings.

Parts of the site were affected by a noisy road which was audible throughout the night, and all day on the Sunday there was the incessant high-pitched whine of model racing cars or similar coming from an adjoining field.

The site was nearly full when we arrived and we were unfortunate in choosing one of the remaining perimeter grass pitches. Although our pitch was far enough away for the road noise not to be a problem, it was a very ‘tight’ pitch in a corner and over the weekend when the site was completely full, we were so badly hemmed in with caravans, cars (parked in front because there wasn’t enough space to park alongside of your unit) and pup tents that we couldn’t even sit outside in the sunshine. The warden was unsympathetic to the problem and his wife was quite unpleasant when we politely requested that something might be done to ease the situation.

The Gower area is beautiful with plenty to do whatever your interests. The coastline and lovely clean, sandy beaches are superb and never crowded – with the tide going out for about half a mile – so a long walk for a paddle at low tide! Many beaches are ‘dog friendly’ and the off-road coastal cycle-ways are a great way to enjoy the scenery.

 Gowerton Caravan Club site, Swansea

This site is ideally located to see the Gower Peninsula and is about 7 miles from Swansea. It is owned by the Caravan Club and is open March to November for members and non-members.

Welcome on arrival was good even though it was raining and the warden’s wife was ill so he had to cope on his own.

There are 135 touring pitches of which 55 are hardstandings. Pitches are level so you will not need levelling blocks.

There is a single heated toilet block with showers, WCs and privacy cubicles. Also a parent/toddler room and disabled facility, washing up/vegetable preparation area and laundry facilities. I thought at first the facilities were small for the number of pitches but then found an annex with more units. Facilities were clean and showers powerful.

Service points around the site for water and rubbish disposal. Also chemical disposal facilities.

Dog walk on site. Large children’s play area.

Public telephone on site but mobile phone signals are strong. TV reception was good.

Food shopping at Tesco Express about ten minutes walk away or wide variety of shops in Swansea or Llanelli. Llanelli town centre was very quiet but everybody was at the out-of-town centre or at the Llanelli Scarlets new rugby stadium adjacent.

We paid £17.95 per night for standard hardstanding pitch with 16amp electrical hook-up, caravan, awning and two adults.

Local attractions include:

• The beaches on the Gower such as Oxwich and Caswell with generally safe bathing and acres of sand

• Joe’s ice cream parlour at the Mumbles which sells the best ice cream in the world.

• Swansea has a maritime museum, super swimming pool and good indoor market selling lava bread. This is a traditional Welsh delicacy made from seaweed, tastes very salty and is yuk but lots of people like it with bacon and eggs.

• National Botanic Garden of Wales with the magnificent Great Glasshouse. If you can’t walk very far there is a land train that will take you around the gardens.

Lovely location if the weather is good. If it rains go to Joe’s.

We have just spent 2 nights at the site and were impressed with the layout and general standard of the site.

It rained the day we arrived and the grass was pretty sodden, as with the previous reviews we hooked up on a hard standing but had to cross the grass to get to it.

But, we had a lovely sunny spot and were able to make the most of it when the sun shone!

There is quite a lot of noise at night, cars can be heard racing around and it did keep me awake. Again, there was a lot of noise from remote controls cars that seem to be used in the next field. Considering the location, the site was a little noisy.

Saying that, we easily accessed the lovely Gower beaches and the cleanliness and lovely feel to the site made up for the noise at night!
