The site facilities are pretty basic. The shower blocks and toilets are very clean and quite modern but the water pressure is very low resulting in very poor showers. If I ran around in the cubicle I did get wet! The blocks were cosy but the music (which played 24 hours daily) was a bit loud!
The site ownership has recently changed and the new owners are putting large static caravans on site and building a log cabin. There is a lot of building work going on but it is pretty unobtrusive. There was no work being done the long weekend we spent there which was appreciated.
We were part of a large group made up of caravans and tents. We were able to park / camp alongside each other and we all had access to power. The pitches are grass but all the paths and road is paved.
There are plenty of bins but no dog bins.
The closeness of the beach was brilliant. We visited often and had a great (but very cold) time. There is only a playpark on site for the children but plenty of space to run around and bike. The 'Splashzone' is close by and reasonably priced.
The town is pretty close with all the usual amenities

Found this Council site while travelling down the coast, and was surprised how few people were on this large site. Very friendly Site Manager who was very helpful. Good selection of firm grass pitches which were level. Shower block clean and tidy with hot water. Easy walk on to sand dunes and along next to the man made sea defences and on to nice sands. Only really aware of factory next door when their loudspeakers issued an on site warning to their staff of a problem on a section of their site. Good selection of shops in town centre not far away

We absolutely love it! We have been going every week for the last few months. The site warden Ali is great, tell you all about the site and is ready to lend a hand with everyone even putting up awnings. The site is pretty basic but the water is never far from where you park and the toilets are spotless no matter what time of day or night you go in. The beach is a two minute walk and is lovely. The kids love either getting the football out or the tennis racquets. Everyone seems so friendly especially the people who are there for the season. We even had someone help us work out how to get hot water running in our caravan. Love it and hope it doesn't get changed to statics next year or there will be a lot of disappointed people old and young. Keep up the good work Ali and Baby . We always went to the Lake District until we found this park .

We have been to this site 3 times now and our 4 boys aged 4 to 10 love it. Good playpark on site, fantastic splash and play area 5 minutes walk and a whole load of beautiful beach and stones / pebbles to collect. What more do they need. Me and dad on the other hand thought the shower / toilet blocks were fine and clean although the showers were a little slow. Well lit in the evening, a lot of light comes off the factory next to the site.
The town centre is only 10 minutes walk with a baker/butcher etc also a large tesco and somerfield in town. Warden very helpful and friendly.
Good sized and maintained pitch with ehu if required
Will definitely be a regular here

First the bad news.
Toilets were horrible, and the site is sited next to a noisy chemical plant.
Now the good news.
Great nearby beach and 'splash zone' on your doorstep to keep the kids happy, cheap rates (council run), 5 min walk to shops to get hot filled rolls at 6am, not too far from Stonehaven which has a heated outdoor pool in summer. Good local restaurants and shops in Montrose (try roo's leap - great food).
All in all I'd go again, but be quick in the cold, smelly toilets & showers and take earplugs for the noisy chemical plant at night.

This campsite was brill - we pitched our '3 bedroom semi' (as the man in charge called it) right next to the path that gave direct beach access (sorry to any of you reading this who tripped over our guide lines in the dark - and there were a few!) There were 5 of us women and our kids so we needed a BIG tent. The campsite is basic but cheap and the other campers
+ caravanners we spoke to have been returning for years (which we hope to do too). They gave us the lowdown on the newer toilet facilities further down the site but we couldn't be bothered to be honest we used the 'outdated' one nearer our tent, which was cleaned regularly and stocked up too.
The kiddies playground was popular but not as popular as the beach - just as well we had great weather! We took a selection of beach games and other people must have thought we were mad having an egg and spoon race, sack race etc - but we were enjoying ourselves. Only problem we had was a snorer about 6 pitches away from us - but after a few vodkas the noise deadened lol.
The campers next to us came to our rescue a few times (Lochee folk - you know who you are) as we ran out of gas for our breakfast, they gave us a loan of their bottle and next door caravanners boiled our kettle for that much needed coffee hit!
The town centre has some decent enough shops - this wasnt a shopping trip though. But enough to keep us from going insane!
All in all a fantastic time was had.

Just returned from a fabulous couple of days at this site. Plenty of pitches to choose from and direct beach access. The beach is very clean (it has a blue flag award) but the splash park was even better - I couldn't drag my boys away! Very handy to have a Tesco in town too. We'll certainly be returning.

This is a nice little campsite run by Angus Council which nestles behind the dunes on the south side of Montrose Bay. Pitches are large and dogs are welcome. Whilst the old toilet block in the camping area is functional but rather dark, there is a newer light airy block within the caravanning area. Access to either is by a key supplied when you book in. Hot showers are free (better at the more modern block) and there are dish washing and laundry facilities. There is also a children's play park on site. There are lots of attractions in the area. There is direct access to the beach from the campsite through the dunes and the award-winning "Seaside Splash" children's playpark is only a 5-10 minute walk away on the promenade where there is also putting and a cafe. The Scottish Wildlife Trust Montrose Basin visitor centre and its animal hides have binoculars and telescopes looking out across the basin and include interpretation of the unique local wildlife. There are many walks in the area not only north and south along the waterfront but also inland around the basin. The House of Dun is a National Trust for Scotland property a few miles from the campsite near where is the eastern terminus of the Brechin to Bridge of Dun preserved "Caledonian Railway" Montrose itself contains a variety of local and big-name shops including two large supermarkets. There are a variety of eating places and is the home of the family orientated "Roos Leap" restaurant beside the golf course. One point to note though. To the south, the campsite borders the Glaxo Wellcome pharmaceutical plant which is lit up at night and which emits a quiet humming noise. We pitched our tent at this end because it gave us direct beach access. However we were only really aware of the light and sound on our first night and it was the seagulls which woke us up in the morning, not the plant! We will use again

I have been coming to this site for 20 years and absolutely love it. My kids absolutely love it and ask to spend their summer holidays there. There is always plenty of room per pitch, as I have a hartford xxl I need it. The toilet blocks are fairly old but are well looked after with music playing in them and clean. They have plenty of toilets but only 3 showers per unit. But I'm up early anyway so I don't find this a problem. There is a playpark on site and there is water park called Splash within a five minute walk, there is also pitch and put, a golf course and you are only a ten minute walk from the shops and takeaways. The beach is outstanding and you have access through the dunes from the site! There can be a problem with "boy racers" but the police normally clamp down on it quite early on. Every other site I go to I compare it to this one and constantly ask myself why I'm not at Montrose. looking forward to returning.

We spent the weekend here. The beach is lovely. Our dog really enjoyed running about here. Pitches are very generous. Showers are hot although only a fine spray which makes rinsing a problem ! Although the site was very busy there was no shortage of showers. We were pitched alongside the road and experienced a lot of road noise from the boy racers who sped up and down the road until after midnight most nights. On our last day, they had some sort of rally organised and were shouting and honking their car horns for most of the morning which was extremely annoying. Thankfully we were preparing to leave and we will not be camping here again.
