Myself & a group of my friends organised a camping weekend over Easter for a getaway & to do something different. We booked our pitches at Grendon Lakes & despite the weather, headed down with our tents & enthusiasm. Registering in at the clubhouse was easy & the staff there were very welcoming & friendly.
We had a hot drink in the bar before heading off to the camping area. We camped in the Main Camping field and we had an abundance of space to set up. In total we had 5 tents & a large gazebo. We were only a minutes walk from the toilet & shower block. After reading some of the poor reviews we were surprised to see that the toilets & showers were clean, warm & the staff kept it this way all weekend.
We went on to have a great weekend, the atmosphere was relaxing and chilled. We had loads of space to spread out, we had a BBQ at night and had full English breakfasts in the mornings at the clubhouse. We had a great time, played games on the camping field & just enjoyed spending time outdoors.
We had no complaints at all and will definitely return in the summer.
Unlike other campsites, Grendon Lakes accepts single sex groups which we were & there was other groups of men & woman around. A group nearby was a stag party who were doing activities on site. Everyone was well behaved & friendly. The good thing about this campsite is that all large groups camp in the main camping field and this is away from the 2 other camping areas.
We had a chat with a couple in the bar who were camping on the family area and they said it was very quiet and peaceful.
Overall we found the site great for our needs. It has everything we require for a camping trip & the clubhouse is an added benefit - we sat & enjoyed the lake views whilst getting out of the rain sipping on hot chocolate - what more could you want! Apart from sunshine!
The only down side is that as it was so early in the season, the clubhouse closed at 9pm at night. To go to the local pub was couple of mile drive, we ended up just staying put but if you are wanting to explore some local pubs etc, its worth remembering that this campsite is miles from anywhere.

We used this site as it is local to us and we had just purchased a new tent and wanted to try it out.
We went on the unusually warm weekend at the start of October this year, so went for an electrical hook up, so that we could use a heater, the hook up cost us and additional £2. 00 per night and we bought an electric card costing £5. 00 which would have lasted us a week if we had stayed that long.
The site had a bar and restaurant but this appeared to close quiet early, we did use the bar early afternoon for a drink.
The site was has great lakes for skiing fishing etc.
The site does not have a play area, which I feel it would benefit from.
The big downside to this site were the toilet and washing facilities. There is only 1 toilet block, although additional toilets and showers are located in club house.
The toilet block was approx 5 min walk from where we were pitched and the road to them is not lit, the bulbs in the ladies loo was out, and I felt somewhat vulnerable using them at night.
In daylight it looked like they have never been cleaned and 1 of the 2 ladies showers was out of use. There were so many spiders etc in the gents block that my son refused to use them and had to go in the ladies which were a little cleaner.
Over all I felt that the site has a lot potential if it had some money invested in it, and additional shower blocks were installed and cleaned regularly

Just returned from a 2 night stay at Grendon Lakes.
Due to good company we had a nice break but this was nothing to do with the campsite.
We stayed in the field by Geralds Pond. Upon first sight of the toilet block the outside looked promising. However upon entering I was extremely disappointed. It didn't look as if the place had been cleaned for months.
At no time during our stay did anyone stock it with toilet roll or soap. The kitchen area for washing up was similarly filthy.
My husband did go up to the main bar\reception area once only to find it was locked up.
Wasps were everywhere, which was probably partly due to the huge rubbish bin which a guy skimmed the top off to empty slightly but left the rest there!
The field area itself was lovely and quiet with our 2 tents being the only ones present until the end of our stay.
In summary I think you get what you pay for. I certainly wont be recommending this site. As someone else said, poor management which is a shame as this site could be great with some TLC and a little investment!

What a great find. Lovely camp site, loads of space set in stunning countryside. Nice clubhouse overlooking a lake. Tasty homemade curry for £2. 50. What's not to like? Helpful friendly staff made for a very relaxed, laid back ambience to the whole weekend. There is even a padlock on the gate to the field where our pitch was. This site does cater for stag/hen parties and other events. There was a big reunion event on this weekend in one of the other fields on the site but never noticed any excessive noise or rowdiness. We found it a very nice relaxing site. The only negative was cold showers, but they were certainly refreshing!

Had a brilliant weekend here at the beginning of June - big family group came camping for a family wedding party at the clubhouse. The clubhouse was great for such an event - and the campsite was great for basic camping.
Initially we had been a little worried about what to expect down to earlier reviews, but we really only have positive things to say about this site. For a family of 4 in a decent sized tent, it was £10 a night pre-paid.
Friendly staff went out of their way to ensure we were together in a family camping field. The family field is behind a big gate (which you have to unlock and lock every time you drive through - there's open pedestrian entrance to the side) so it's just a bit safer for children.
Toilet blocks are across the way on the edge of the next field. I suppose in the night it would count as a bit of a hike (3 minutes maybe) but we had other in-tent solutions that worked well for our family!
The toilet block seemed quite new - toilets/sinks were clean, the floor in the shower area (nice hot showers!) did get a little muddy, but when outdoor shoes are worn into a wet floorspace that tends to happen, so take your flipflops.
Really pretty area around the different lakes - the one next to the family field had families of swans, geese, moorhens and a great crested grebe. I'm not a twitcher, but watching them teaching their chicks to swim and dip etc. Was a lot of fun.
When we booked, the lady had warned us that there was no playground, so we brought a bag of toys (we had children ranging from 4 - 9) swingball, cricket, football, skipping ropes, frisbee - they enjoyed the frisbee the most - as the challenge to recover it from the top of a tree, or between the reeds on the lake with a long stick was much more fun than just throwing/catching it. Fresh air and a bit of space, kids don't really need more than that.
Extras: Some people came on a bit later, and it was a very easy drive to Wellingborough Station. The pub Half-Moon in Grendon itself was brilliant for Sunday lunch - very friendly, great food, good prices.
Anyway, for our function it worked out perfectly. Basic camping, but masses of space, and pretty location (if you can place your chair at an angle to hide the pylons behind your tent and a tree). Good value for money.

I was very disappointed in this site. It was set in a beautiful location and the staff were very friendly, but it was let down by poor management.
The site was in the middle of nowhere down a very long, winding, unlit road. There were no proper signs to tell us where to check in, and if you had a caravan, when you got to the clubhouse to check in you would have to unhitch it to turn round to drive back to the fields. These were quite a long way from the clubhouse by foot.
I went on my own with a tent, and opted for electric hook-up. However, as well as a £2 standing charge per night (which is reasonable) we had to buy an electric meter card at £5. At the end of the weekend, my fridge and electric light had only used 60p's worth of electricity - but it cost me £9 and I was left with a useless meter card with £4.40 credit.
There was only one toilet block, which wasn't actually on any of the camping fields, but some distance away - and impossible if you needed to go in the night as there was no lighting on site - and you had to go over an uneven field and down a road to get to it. There was no toilet paper or soap - I had to provide my own - it wasn't very clean, and the two showers did not have doors, just curtains. This may have suited younger people - but not a middle aged woman like me. Those who did use them said they could only get cold water.
There were also no washing up facilities - which was OK as I was on my own, but had I gone with my family, this could have been a problem.
There were no bins or skips on the camping fields - there was one by the toilet block, but people were leaving piles of rubbish on the fields, and as there was a lot of wild-life around, the sacks were getting ripped to shreds.
Also, the bar closed around 6pm on the Friday. People arriving after that time had no idea where to go, and didn't know the padlock codes to get onto the fields. I was expecting to be able to get a meal and sit in the bar for the evening, but had to stay in the tent on the pitch dark site.
On the Saturday night, I decided to go off-site, but when I arrived back the main gate was locked, and I had to abandon the car alongside the road and walk along an unlit road for 15 minutes to get to the site. It's fair enough that we shouldn't drive onto the fields at night, but we should have a safe place to leave our cars NEAR the site.
Also, I went for a specific event, and expected that the people who had booked for this would all be camping together. Instead, we were vaguely sent to three separate fields, and there seemed to be a lack of organisation.
There were no facilities for children on the campsite - no play areas - though there were watersports and paintball activities for those who wanted to make use of them or could afford them.
All in all a site with great potential but badly let down by poor facilities and lack of management.

This site was such a disappointment because the failings could so easily be managed out. The location is fine; the charges excessive for what is offered.
The new but inadequate and not-central toilet block had not been recently cleaned when we arrived on the Friday and there was no evidence that it was cleaned by the Sunday. No toilet roll, no soap, no obvious hot water and while I was there two other campers tried to shower and failed.
The card system for hookup is farcical or a ripoff. The claimed £5 on the card ran out by Sunday first thing - we had boiled the kettle nine times since the Friday. To me that works out to more than £2 per kWh!
A friend went out on the Saturday evening and arrived back to find the gate locked. Secure, you might think, but she left her car, walked round the gate then trekked the half mile to the camp proper!
As I wrote earlier, a nice site spoiled by poor management.

Visited for a weekend with a group of other families. The staff very helpful and friendly, bar and restaurant good for pub type grub and the prices were reasonable. Masses of space in the camping field and we could pitch wherever we wanted which was great.
Absolutely plagued by wasps which was a real shame but they seemed to be everywhere. Took advantage of the watersports and loved it. The toilet block got very muddy after rain and I would hope that the site are either going to tarmac or gravel the road into the camping area as the mud just spreads everywhere, and it all turns quite slippy.
All in all we had a lovely weekend despite very mixed weather.

Took family and a group of teenage girls for one night's camping mid-GCSE's. Helped by the lovely weather. Ideal environment. Were given the large field (almost exclusively!). Total freedom.
Good toilets/showers (but no washing-up facilities). Quiet. Wonderful environment. Good clubhouse. Good beer!. Adequate food (bar menu). The lakes were wonderful. The banana boat even more so!
No sophistication but that can be a good thing sometimes .So close to centres of population but you'd never know

Wow, we spent the bank holiday weekend here with our friends and considering it was only up the A6 and not too far from home we had a great time!
Despite the weather not being very kind to us, it didn't matter as we were surrounded by lakes in the middle of the countryside.
The toilets were great considering the amount of people and the mud.
The huge log built club house was set right on a lake where you can watch all the goings on, and chill! There is a field for stag and hen groups, but everyone was there just to get away!
We are already planning our next stay here.
