I had searched for a campsite central to all our friends and after reading some of the reviews was hesitant, but decided to visit, and I'm glad we did.
I found the site to be in lovely, clean well maintained countryside. A new toilet and shower block was open and in use, considering the amount of people using, I thought to be clean and adequate for purpose.
In our group there was 4 familys and 8 children all under the age of 8. Although Grendon Lakes doesn't have any children's facilities as such, our group and many others on the family camping area had a great time playing rounders, football etc. So would not perhaps recommend if you like a more commercialised site, with arcades, playgrounds etc. , but for back to basics family fun it's a winner.
We ventured over to the clubhouse area on Saturday afternoon and had something to eat. Which was of superb quality and reasonably priced, as was the bar prices. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Just thought I would give an alternative review for this site, all of our group will definitely meet up there again this summer

I went to Grendon Lakes as it was a hot weekend this weekend not knowing what it was like. I got there and the bar staff were very welcoming and friendly and the lawn area outside the club house had a very calmed and chilled out atmosphere. There was music playing the in the background which made it nice whilst sitting there and enjoying the water-sports. I stay in a tent over Saturday night the camping area was everything that I would expect and in had nice shower and toilet facilities which were open all night and not every far away.

We had booked for a weekend stay at Grendon Lakes. We have been caravanning for many years and for the very first time, this was a site that we arrived at and did not stay.
It does have it's plus points if you are seeking a site with fishing and watersport facilities
The site was under development with huge areas of torn up soil and mud. The fields are rough. There is no lighting on site and it is in totally rural surroundings all around. There is only a portacabin for toilets and they were unsanitary. A new toilet is under construction. Very few water points and no chemical or refuse disposal point apparent. It is a long walk to the clubhouse which does not open late into the evening.
It costs £15 per night for the caravan plus electrical hookup at £2 per night. I think this is very overpriced for what is on offer. We relocated to a caravan club CL listed site in Cold Ashby, for £7 inc hookup per night which was immaculate, with disposal points, ample water, but no toilets.

Me and a friend were suppose to be going for 3 nights over Easter but only could manage 2. It rained for the entire 2 days we were there which turned the road and parts of the field into mud baths. The ground on the electric hook-up field is uneven and not really suitable for tents. The larger tent field without electric looked a lot better. Sacrifice electric if you can. There are no showers on the campsite and there is only 1 shower in the clubhouse. I went for a shower at 6pm one evening and the water was freezing cold! The toilets are a portacabin! Mud had been trampled in over the weekend and you couldn't see the floor! Looks like they are making a toilet block but it is in the very early stages. The bar is supposed to close at 10pm but seemed to be making its own closing times up. Usually about 7pm. You can't use the shower after this time as everything is locked. There is no pot washing facilities or bins. Everyone was leaving their rubbish on the pitch when they left. Went into Wellingborough 1 night and that is a good night out.

Only downfall on this site are the toilets & Showers. There are now electric hook ups and we looked at the lakes and clubsite and all looked good.
There's a few fields for camping and caravanning, be a good site for young people as its a bit out in the sticks, and plenty to keep them entertained.
You can do paint balling and jet skiing.
Its only a short drive into town and places to eat.

We chose this site as an introduction to camping for my 2 kids - so we wanted 'proper' basic camping - and this is what we got.
On the up side - the camping fields are very spacious, it's in beautiful countryside & the clubhouse/water skiing provided a good base to get a nice snack & sit in the sun watching the lake activities.
On the downside, the watersports lake seems to attract big group outings - so although our first night was nice, the second had at least one stag party having an all night party in the camping field, with the most extreme music/shouting all night long. I'm a pretty tolerant type, but it was pretty major stuff.
The toilets were very very grim in the camping field, and only cold water there, so no washing up point.
The clubhouse is available for unlimited hot water in a great shower, if you're happy to take a stroll with your towel though.
All in all a good weekend, in a very pretty undiscovered part of the county - very close to Castle Ashby too (which provided a nice firework display from the campsite on Saturday!).

A friend and I went here with our 3 lads age 14 for a bonding weekend. The Site is easy to find and has a large camping field. It was quite busy so we set the tents up near some young lads in their twenties. They were a good bunch and we had a laugh with them. The toilet block had no showers and had no lighting at night. The steps leading up to the door moved. We only saw one outdoor tap and there was no waste water drain. At night it was very noisy as there was a lot of large groups. It was gone 3am before it went quiet.
Thats the bad points done, now the good. The staff are very friendly and willing to help. Also the clubhouse wasn't too bad. Yes it was noisy at night but there are other camping areas. You can go up by the lake away from the main field if you want it a bit quieter (didn't find this until later).
Lots to do on site, paintballing, Wakeboarding ,fishing and loads of walks. Overall if you want to camp in a field with no facilities this is it. If the owners put a toilet and shower block in with waste points and drains this would be the place to go.

Well what can I say about Grendon lakes. Let’s see, it’s set in some of the best views Northamptonshire has to offer. With a variety of wildlife for neighbours.
The clubhouse is almost like a log cabin, with the fantastic views of the water sports lake you can easily forget that you’re in the heart of England.
The cost of camping is good value for money. With the electric hook-up now up and running as well.
Starting from
£8-00 per Night for a tent.
£12-00 per Night for a caravan.
And £20-00 per Night for a motor home.
There are 12 lakes, 2 of which are water sports only and 8 mainly for fishing.
Whether your fishing for pleasure or seriously after a really big carp, or just wanting to teach the kids how to fish, there’s a lake here suitable for everyone.
And if you’re here for the water sports, they have allsorts from wake boarding to jet skiing. And even run courses for those wishing to learn to drive a boat.
They are also home to hostile fire, a paintballing venue.
So really as I've said, they have something for everyone.
On site facilities include a clubhouse, comprising of 2 bars, with pool table and sky sports, a restaurant, serving snacks and full meals.
Showers and changing rooms also in the clubhouse. In addition, separate toilet blocks up by the camping fields.
The staff are friendly and welcoming. And can be found quite easily if you get stuck and need help with anything.
To be honest there are only 2 problems I can see with this place, firstly the rubbish that people leave behind, come on people how hard is it to take you rubbish home with you, or take it down to the bins at the clubhouse.
Secondly, I wish someone would catch that elusive pike that lurks in the depths of Gerald ponds, that is causing so much pain to the other fish.
So all in all, I'd say this is the perfect place to sit back, relax and watch the world go by

We stayed at this site in July and September last year ( 2007 ) and loved it!
As the previous posters have said it is very rough and ready but if you like proper camping it's ideal.
When we went, there was no electric hook ups but we were allowed to use the generator, which kept the kids happy in the evening watchin a dvd while we sat around the camp fire! According to the website there should be hook ups coming this year but nothing has been confirmed yet.
There are no shop facilities on site and didn't see any in Grendon, although in all fairness we didnt look as we went well prepared.
The club house was nice with the beer reasonably priced. Lots of room to sit out in the sun with the entertainment of watching the wakeboarders doing their stuff. It did close early though. So we sat on the grassy bank with a can!
Barry the camping marshall is very helpful and friendly and leaves you to your own devices.
The toilet facilities are two converted portacabins which are incredibly basic and leave a lot to be desired but do the job. Take your own toilet roll or do as we did and take your own loo!
The camping fields are rough and uneven but there is so much space you're sure to find a good spot.
As you're near the fishing lakes be prepared for lots of gnats in the evenings.
All in all we love the site, well worth the money and we cant wait to go back.

If, like me, you like your camping rough, you’ll like this one.
The road-sign between Grendon and Wollaston fails to mention camping at all, and the “No dogs” sign halfway down the long access lane means “Dogs allowed, both on and off leads”!
The lakes consist of five or six old gravel pits, criss-crossed by pylons. One is used for watersports and the rest for various types of fishing. Two substantial areas are dedicated to camping but, apart from the woods set aside for paintball, you can pitch pretty much where you like. The ground is rough, the grass rarely cut and the lakes unfenced. There is a fair bit of rubbish around, the camp toilets are none too clean, and the owners often forget to turn on the water tap.
So why do I like it? It’s a friendly site for real campers. Wood fires are permitted, there’s no curfew and cars arrive and leave all through the night. There’s a rush before dawn because the owners are lackadaisical about collecting the fees - £6 per night for a 4-man tent. The bar opens erratically and has reasonable toilets and a shower. Enjoy the cartoons of buxom water-skiiers saying “I got pulled at Grendon Lakes”. My only substantial gripe was lack of access to the adjacent river Nene, but maybe I didn’t look hard enough, and anyway the owners kept offering to let us canoe on the lakes.
If you want manicured lawns and worry when your child picks up a used tin can, you’d be happier elsewhere. If you’re tired of the health and safety mafia, Grendon Lakes is for you.
