Basic, but nice little site for an overnight stay. It is no where near Walcot hall though like the Walcot hall website makes out. Check out the pub website, Powis arms.
In my opinion the toilets weren't too bad, hairs and grass were left in the showers but this is as much down to the campers to clean up after themselves. With no mop about though it is difficult.
The washing up and laundry facilities were dirty, I cleaned it myself I felt that strongly about it being a mess. Dirty old dish cloths and sponges that were black, god only knows how long they had been there. And a sink that was just as bad. It looked more like a boot room rather than somewhere to wash your cooking utensils!
Price was excellent, £10 for us because we didn't use the hook up (extra £5per night)
Great secure little site (field) that you could let the kids run wild on, our lil chap loved it.
Also a few times in the night very fast cars went past scaring me to death so I'd recommend pitching against the next field rather than next to the road.
Things for owners to bear in mind:
Clean/mop floors more regularly , provide a mop in the toilets, clean out the washing up facilities!
Other that I would return for its peace and quiet and cheap prices.

As the previous reviewer. Wash block neglected, showers unwashed, smelly sink/washing machine/drier room. Landlord not particularly welcoming.
Shame - site itself lovely. Not particularly peaceful, though - noisy dogs during night at local kennels.
However - good beer at pub, handy location for walk to Bury Ditches (local farmer not walker-friendly), recommend Crown Inn, Clunton for food.

Although the ground was muddy on arrival, a touch of sun soon dried it out. The site is beautifully set in a valley with an avenue of beech? trees along the drive to the hall. The pub is warm and friendly with excellent real ale and delicious home cooked food. The landlord is prone to impromptu folk songs with the locals and this adds to the charm and fun.
Wildlife abounds here and we saw treecreepers among the many varieties of birds. We were serenaded each night by a tawney owl.
Would definitely go here again, just a shame its 3 hrs drive away!

This was my second visit to the site, exactly a year after my first, however on this occasion the weather was considerably better. Sadly, owing to my partner and I having to nurse a sick animal at home I was only able to camp with my fellow drinking buddies for one night before returning home. Both of us did return on the Sunday afternoon for a fine lunch with our friends in the Powis Arms, but more on this later.
OK I've commented on the facilities at this site in a review below, but for a recap they are as follows: about 30 pitches all with EHU and water between every 2; pitches are plenty big enough for large tents or vans with awnings; amenities block is very modern, well maintained / stocked and plenty big enough for the site; in short this site offers all the key requirements for a comfortable camping break. The site itself doesn't have a shop, but there's a village shop just a few yard away, which offers all the necessary bits and pieces you're gonna need.
Owing to the animal nursing situation at home I hadn't booked in advance but phoned ahead a couple of hours before arrival to see if I could be fitted in. Several of my drinking buddies were already booked in for the bank holiday weekend and I drove over for a one night stay. Gerry, the site proprietor and landlord of the Powis Arms greeted me on arrival and directed me to my pitch, asking me to pop into the pub to pay once I was set up. Owing to the fact that I was in a small tent and not requiring EHU I was charged the princely sum of £5.00 for the pitch - not bad at all.
My friends and I had a superb evenings drinking courtesy of Gerry and several well kept fine ales - this is a cracking pub by any standards! Sadly I had to leave after breakfast the following day but my girlfriend and I returned for lunch with the gang on the Sunday afternoon which was absolutely lovely: I had locally reared roast pork which was nothing short of excellent, my companions commented similarly favourably on the beef and lamb selections also. With a desert the meal came to less than £10.00, which for this quality of food was represents excellent value. My other half drove so I was able to partake of the fine selection of ales once again - life's tough. Seriously this is a top notch pub.
I had a great stay, my mates, who occupied another three pitches between the six of them, had an equally great but longer stay and we'll definitely be back. As I've said before, if you're looking for an all singing all dancing holiday park then look elsewhere, but this is a great little site particularly if you're a real ale drinker. CAMRA members will love it!

This is a small, quiet site pleasantly concealed behind the Powis Arms pub which offers a warm and friendly welcome serving real ales and good food.
Toilet and shower block is situated at the top end of the site and is cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. I have visited this site on four previous occasions and have found it perfect for walking, fishing or just a relaxing break. If I had to make one bad comment about this site it would be that it does get very waterlogged in bad weather.

WHAT A FIND!
Despite the quite dreadful bank holiday wekend weather, a group of 7 of us (three tents and a van) had a lovely weekend at this small village site with excellent basic facilities.
OK let's do the basics first: around thirty flat pitches all with EHU and with a water supply between every two (most unusual). Pitches are generous enough (we have an Outwell Montana 6 and a big estate car - both of which fitted with room to spare). The shower / toilet / washing up / laundry block was newly built, very pleasant, plenty big enough for the size of site, well stocked at all times and kept as clean as could possibly be expected considering the amount of mud that the rain was creating and the recently cut grass. The site is on very flat low ground and, as would be expected, as the rain bucketed down became a bit soggy, but nothing drastic - we were certainly able to de-pitch after two days of non stop rain without getting too mucky. A herd of very friendly cattle in the next field reminds you that you're way out of town and acts as a fine alarm clock. The site is within very easy reach of Bishops Castle and Clun, it's also only about 20 minutes from Church Stretton if you need more in the way of shops etc. There is also a small village shop about five minutes walk away for the usual bits and pieces.
We'd booked and therefore didn't encounter the issues some other reviewers seem to have had. On arrival we pitched in our alloted spaces and then went into the pub (more on this later), in whos grounds the site lies, in order to check in. The Landlord and proprietor of the site was welcoming and throughout the weekend seemed very keen to make sure we were happy with everything.
OK, now for the real jewel in the crown: the pub itself. OK I'm very used to the idea of having a decent pub within easy reach of a campsite - the two things seem to go hand in hand somehow. However, I've never come across a pub and campsite actually occupying the same plot before, and what a pub! We enjoyed a gorgeous Sunday lunch there and (owing purely to the weather you understand) many a very fine pint from a good selection of well kept ales along with a fine selection of single malts (the Landlord is from north of the border afterall). OK, I can understand that this will be far from everyones major concern when choosing a site, but we'll certainly be back regardless of the weather. If you want an all frills holiday park then you're gonna be disappointed, but if you want quiet, comfortable camping with the bonus of a fine ale house just a few yards stagger from your pitch then this place is a clear winner and a must for CAMRA campers.

Arrived without a booking - site looked busy - but sign clearly shows to find a pitch then go into the pub to pay etc. We did - and were told you have to move as some of pitches are booked . Fair enough - but why not change the sign ? By early evening site was absolutely full and to make matters worse caravan next to us had 3 cars with it - all parked around caravan - hence very little room to get in and out of our van and no room at all to put a chair outside. (Pub has its own carpark where excess car could easily have been parked). Several tents and caravans had at least 2c ars each so added to the over packed feel of the site.
The toilets,/ showers were ok. No toilet paper but a sign that says if you run out go to the pub and ask landlord for some.
Pub served great food and was reasonable.
Its probably a good site when its very quiet - but when busy it does appear no one actually looks after it too much - the pub is the main concern. A shame as it could be a top site to stay but unless some care is taken and they make sure you can move on the site its probably not a good place to stay at busy times.

This was our first camping adventure and had a fantastic time. The site was a bit soggy but seeing as we have had loads of rain the pitches were very well drained. The facilities were first class to include shower block, toilets and washing up facilities of which were all very clean. The owners were very nice and helpful and cook cracking sunday lunch in the pub. For a quiet, lazy trip we would recommend this site.Just beware of the noisy swans and geese in the early hours!

We arrived at the site and it was very quiet, only one tent pitched. The sign stated that if the pub was closed, you were to find a pitch and register at the earliest convenience. We chose a pitch and levelled the van, hooked up the electric and connected the water etc. Within 10 minutes of this a rather official looking person came from the rear of the pub armed with a notepad! "We'll have to move you from there" he said! Much to our amazement and upset we were supposed to pitch with the rear of the van facing the farm fence and on a different pitch number! None of this was ever mentioned to us at the time of booking or on our confirmation. We were very upset at having to move and was told that they were busy at it was the bank holiday weekend.
He then proceeded to move the tent that was pitched at the end of the site and a motorhome that had arrived!
By the end of the day they had crammed, and I mean CRAMMED, in, 5 caravans next to each other so close that stepping out from your awning you had to squeeze past the next caravan.
The site itself is very quiet and each 2 pitches have their own water supply. The ground was pretty level and drained well.
A welcome and amusing site were the jersey cows who watch you when you arrive!
The site would probably be ok at a normal time but definitely not on a bank holiday weekend.
p.s. Breathe in when crossing the second cattle grid!
