Just got back from a long weekend at Smithy Park. What a lovely quiet site, excellent location. We had a pitch overlooking the river Severn (I sat on the loo watching a dipper (bird) fishing right behind our van) This site has a lot of static vans but they were all new and the site is kept immaculate. Only about 25 touring pitches all alongside the river. The toilet and showers were very clean but not very warm. There's a pub and shop with a post office at the end of the lane which is rather narrow especially when cars are parked along it. With a bus stop (2 hourly service to newtown and welshpool) Nice walks along the canal and river into newtown (about 6 miles - 2 hours). There is a bit of road noise and the trains go by but it wasn't too noticable. Overall this site is quiet and in a lovely position, we will visit again defo

A nicely kept site, grass cut to perfection, every day. River severn runs along the back of site very pretty. Toilet and shower block basic clean, cobwebs everywhere. You do hear traffic noise, but it not intrusive.
The pub at the end of the lane does do food, but did not try. The lane is very tight if towing a caravan, I would hate to meet someone coming the other way no passing places at all. Overall a nice site very quiet.

This is a well maintained friendly site in a very beautiful part of Wales. Staff are friendly and helpful. Toilet block with piped music very clean as are all areas of the site. Hook up good with own water and waste. River fishing on site but no luck while we were there. Good pub and shop at end of lane 5 mins walk. Powis Castle and Montgomery well worth a visit. Would recommend this site and will visit again

We’ve been back several times since my first review.
The children have been with me on these occasions, so an update on the last review is required.
The site is still great and the staff still friendly.
The play area is a hit with the children, as I expected. There are actually two other play areas just minutes (walking) away from the site. The bigger one is down the foot path that runs next to the site. This one is more modern, with swings and climbing frames. The second is on the main road and appears to be part of the school. You can gain access and it looks to be usable by the public. We used it and never got told off.
We went for a good walk along the canal with the children and dog. We took the push chair and had no problems. It’s narrow in places so keep the little ones close. You can also access the other side of the river in places, but it can be over grown and flooded if it’s been raining.
The children have spent hours on the pebble beach skimming stones, building dams and fishing with their little nets. The water level changes a lot depending on rainfall so do take care. I thought we may be able to use our dingy, but I don’t think the river is suitable – great if you like canoeing though.
My last review said that the river was fenced off. It is, but it’s not the best of gates and many children would probably be able to navigate it and access the river.
This is one of our favourite sites and we will be regular visitors.

We went to this site as we had been given a voucher by our caravan dealer. I called to book prior to visiting. When we arrived there was no one in the reception area and our name was not on the board. I called the number available and they advised me to just park on any pitch but not the ones that had people due in. We parked up, set up only to be told later that we couldn't stay on that pitch as someone else was booked in the next day! Somewhat inconvenient as we had spent the time settling in, so we had to move. The attendant was very helpful when we did see him though. The facilities are excellent and made for a very comfortable stay. The showers and toilets are very good and very clean. The site seems smaller than it actually is because of the statics. I would recommend this site however I feel compared to others it is quite expensive

We were recommended to this site and we were not disappointed. Although access could have been a little better we did not have any real problems apart from the thought of someone coming the opposite way, but arrival and departure times are quite separate so this might not prove to be a problem. The site is immaculately kept and the pitches were all (apart from 2)hard standing and quite level. With our own drainage and water it gave for a more relaxing holiday. The shower block is extremely clean with piped music which was great.
The nearby pub is a must as their meals are wonderful. Good area to walk or drive a little further to see the sea!.
Will definitely be going back there and would recommend it to anyone.

This is a well maintained site - very friendly; before we'd off loaded the caravan people were talking to us. It feels smaller than the size suggests, probably due to half the site being statics. Toilet block v clean and tidy and a good playground for kids - just be aware of the river which is easily accessible to youngsters.
The hook up is good - your own water and waste.
The access road is quite tight and goes down by the pub - blink and you'll miss it; take care down the road. Pub is at end of access and a good shop opposite. Perfect for walkers - take time to go up river and you can also access the canal which has lovely walks only a mile from the campsite. Check out Montgomery and Glansevern gardens - both very beautiful and worth visiting nearby.
We were very impressed with this site and are going back shortly - if you want a friendly but fairly quiet site this is ideal. Great for dogs!

Spent four nights at this site, very well managed with very good, spotlessly facilities.
Quite a few sited holiday homes on site, plenty of movement with storage caravans being moved on and off pitches plus the grass was mowed every day.
Access to the site from the main road was quite difficult because of parked cars visiting the pub on the corner.
The post-office/shop was well stocked and helpful. The surrounding area had plenty for everyone, there were walks along the river and canal.
An excellent site, if a little more pricey (£18 a night) than we usually pay.

Stayed here for one night this June whilst walking in the area with friends.
Friendly and helpful staff - They agreed that we could turn up early (8am) as pitch was free and pay later. Excellent for us as we wanted to get an early start on walking. Ended up paying the following day as office was closed when we finished the walk.
All pitches, from what I could see, are hard standing (concrete) with grass next to them. Sadly, as with most hard standings we've used, they were not level, but nothing our small level blocks couldn't easily sort out. Being concrete made things much easier too and it may not be the case for all the hard standing pitches. Some of the pitches are accessed across grass, but it looked firm.
Most, if not all the pitches, have their own water, waste, electric and TV point. I especially liked the waste point as they have a hopper and pipe arrangement which you position under your waste outlet – it reaches most parts of the hard standing.
The site has a children’s play area which, if they were with me at the time, I'm sure my two daughters (one of 3yrs and one of 20 months) would have enjoyed. There is also a small public play area a couple of minutes walk away.
There are static caravans and some seasonal tourers. The statics are in a separate area.
Toilets and showers are clean, modern and free.
A river runs past the site which is fenced off. You can access it through a gate and, if river is low, there is a small pebble shore which children could paddle in – it gets very deep a couple of meters off the pebble shore and the current is fast so I wouldn’t let them paddle unattended.
The river is popular with the fishermen too (my father has been 3 times now in his motorhome), as is the near by canal which you can walk to.
The pub at the top of the road (five minute walk) is great value for money. Child portions are smaller versions of the adults rather than just being chicken nuggets and chips, which is also available. Be warned, the portions are big for starters and main.
We're looking to spend a night or two here on our way down from Liverpool for our tour of mid and west Wales this October.
